Looks a bit like a cut and shunt between a Nomad and a Heckler, with an Evil Revolt-esque linkage design.

Not a looker, that’s for sure. Might ride nice though, which is arguably more important.

After searching for a Poodle/Wiemarener cross for ages, buying one, transporting it to Spain (at great cost) and watching it die in our arms when it was poisoned, I can only recommend getting a rescue dog of no particular breed.

    :(

I love wiemaraners – such beautiful, elegant dogs. Never seen one crossed with a poodle before.

he had 2kg of food for dinner last night as Mrs S left the food open and unattended

My mate had an Irish wolfhound when we were growing up. Left it in the kitchen with a wheel of cheese on the table. Came back 15 mins later and he had almost eaten the entire thing. :D

Nothing that exciting, but went out for a blast around Richmond Park after work today. Was nice to be out in the sun. Saw quite a lot of other riders out too – maybe some from here? A guy on an orange Orange Five, one on a Spesh FSR, one on a retro-tastic turquoise blue HT (though I went past too fast to see what the frame was)…

    Lovely evening for it.

    Damn, can that guy manual.

I also love the guy going nuts in the background at 1:40. :D

You can get 20lb full sussers now, so I’m not sure this is true. Maybe it’s because bikes are getting more expensive, so for roughly the same money you’re now ending up with a heavier bike? That combined with the fact that general trail riding is involving harder, more technical and more aggressive terrain, so travel is increasing and components are having to be beefed up to be able to withstand more punishment?

Plans include four mountain bike trails, an uplift road and a 4-cross area

I wonder if there will also be on-site facilities for facial reconstructive surgery? That guy is going to eat it pretty hard.

And as anotherdeadhero says, I love the fact that the BBC have gone to the effort to dip into the historic archives for that special, special shot. :D

You know when farmer’s say they’ll shoot dogs who hassle sheep – can they do it after the event? Say 2wheels knew the farmer and gave him a ring there and then, and the farmer met the two ladies at Bavelaw – could he legally shoot the dogs?

What, like if he just bumped into them in the supermarket?

“Oh, morning ladies, I’ve been looking for you.”

    KA-BOOOM

I’ve got a Cube Ltd Race. Great bike and fantastic value too (or at least it was in 2009 when I bought it).

Very nice indeed. My mate has got a 160mm FS Canyon from a few years ago and absolutely loves it. As you say, all that for £2,400 is ridiculously good value (working under the general assumption that all bikes are now way too expensive, of course :D )

Let us know how you get on!

Meh. You can train and push it as hard as you like, MTFU (god I hate that phrase) as much as you like, but unless you’re Armstrong or Cavendish or Contador or whoever, there will always be someone faster. I wouldn’t let it bother you.

Not really a criticism of the Police, in the grand scheme of human effluent they have to wade through every day, I dare say it’s high on anyone’s priority list. It just frustrates me that so long as you don’t get caught in the act, you will almost certainly get away with this type of crime, which in turn makes more of us likely to be victims of it. I don’t have any answers, it just saddens me a little. As for who the mugs are, I wouldn’t swap any aspect of their lives for mine.

That’s far too measured and objective for STW.

I really feel for you. That must be gutting. Have you got it covered on insurance?

If this is a repeat of the program I saw a few years ago, James Martin spends about £750,000 on a vintage racer (an Alfa, I seem to remember?) to enter the Mille Miglia, then cries on the side of the road after the engine fails after half a day or something. I can’t remember if any cyclists overtook him at that point.

Can someone sum it up in a couple of sentences? Or a haiku?

Imagine a washed up male strip group performing a keep fit routine on stage in what looks like an eastern European shopping centre, on spin bikes. To a horrible Euro techno mix of Footloose.

It’s a cruel and unusual form of entertainment, but for some reason the crowd are actually cheering. The horror.

Must be an Orange – the swingarm and dropouts appear to be identical to the existing 224 Evo, but the shock mount is obviously very different. Maybe a 2012 proto?

Where did you see the pics?

I agree that actually get out the door is the hard part. I recently started going out for a quick blast before work (about a 12 mile loop), and while I’m now managing about four times a week, which has already worked wonders for my fitness, I still sometimes struggle to find the motivation. However, within about five minutes of getting out the door you wonder what all the fuss was about!

And that photo looks stunning, by the way. Surely views like that are all the motivation anyone should need! :-)

I’ve had a set of MG1s for about 18 months, haven’t serviced them at all in that time and yet haven’t had any issues with them. They are a bit soft, so do get beat up, but in my experience it’s only cosmetic – I’ve had quite a few rocky pedal strikes and haven’t managed to dislodge a pin yet.

The Nanotecs are thinner, tougher and the platform is a bit bigger, but they are heavier and (I think) marginally more expensive. Depends on what you’re looking for really.

It seems you’re a John Peel fan, and therefore must have impeccable taste, so I wouldn’t worry what anyone else thinks about your bike. As SSS says, if you’re happy then that’s all that matters. Now go ride it!*

*actually, don’t go ride it now, as it’s dark and you don’t have any lights fitted. :-)

5thElefant – that may be true, but we’re not talking about some minor indescretion here. He calmly decided to run over a group of cyclists and hospitalised 20 people. Without wanting to be overdramatic, that’s multiple counts of attempted murder. If he gets away scot free then that’s a travesty.

Do you? What would it look like?

Revelation XX WC, XTR 9 speed, Hope ProII on 819’s, swampthings (a source of some of the weight but it is winter), Joplin III, RaceFace SIXC bars

How do you find the Rev XX WCs? Worth the extra?

I don’t care about any measurements, materials or components on bikes. I just trawl scrap yards searching for random lumps of tubing that I can sit on, drag it to the top of a hill, kick off with my feet and hope that gravity does the rest. On muddy days I tend to just sit there, stuck, but at least it gets me out of the house.

he was about 150m away, so the shots are very fuzzy. They show a middleaged stocky bloke with dark hair and a greying fringe, just like about 10 blokes you’ll see in every pub…

Yes, but 10 blokes you’ll see in every pub won’t be MXers.

You can already make out some detail on that small pic, so I’m sure it wouldn’t take much for a resourceful copper to find out who it is – a few questions at local MX clubs/shops, etc.

You’ve already gone to the effort of posting it on here…

not sure about that, they were undersized, only about 5″ wide and hard to read…

Well, assuming the original photo is much larger than the one posted on here, you’ve got a pretty decent shot of the guy lobbing the rocks.

Actually, just noticed that the blurring on the second demo photo makes the lights on the right side look like you’ve set the forest on fire.
