Ah, sorry, didn’t spot that. Can’t see any of the Maxle RLT Ti’s for less than £500…

Yeah, I saw that, but the Nano Tech equivalents are out of stock, sadly.

On-One have a pretty good sale on Rockshox forks at the moment. XX Dual Position Air Revs come in just under your budget at £450. See here.

See some almost every time I go out to Richmond Park. Not quite sure that counts, though.

Who cares what they look like. Yeah, they wouldn’t exactly be my first choice of footwear for wearing down the pub, but I only bought them to wear while riding my bike. And at the end of the day, most cycling gear makes the rider look at least slightly foolish (although they don’t look as bad once they’re on).

They’re much cheaper than 5:10s (I got mine for £60 online), will almost certainly last longer, and the wipe-clean material and lace cover makes them a much more sensible design for UK riding. I’ve never ridden with 5:10s, so can’t comment on the relative grip levels, but I’ve never had an issue with a lack of grip with the Shimanos.

Grippy, comfy, well priced, durable and reasonably water resistant…being slightly weird looking isn’t enough to outweigh the positives for me.

If you’ve got a green bike, stay away from green components unless the colour actually matches (which it probably won’t).

Or just do what you want – it’s your bike.

    Not working here either?

I just replaced the (worn) Formula pads in mine for some Superstar sintered and the front brake is squealing like a stuck pig.

I suppose the only bonus is that it’s such an annoying noise it’s making me stay off the brakes for longer than usual.

I’ve been running mine for two years and they’ve been faultless. They look absolutely battered, but they’re pedals and so that’s always going to happen. The axles still run smooth – haven’t had to service them once – and I’ve also still got all the pins despite some pretty hefty rock strikes.

My only complaint is that the platform size is a bit small, but then again I have size 12 feet so this may not be an issue for you. They’re also a fair bit thicker than the current trend for ultra-slim pedals, but I’ve never found that to be a problem.

As you say, for £30 you won’t find anything anywhere near as light or well put together.

Erm, well, just so long as you like them.

I’m quite interested to see them on the bike. Mostly because I want to see what they look like fitted, but also because I’m curious as to what the rest of your bike looks like… :D

Ps ordered my podium point ones today and my leading edge tape arrived so I can wrap my bike up and stop it getting chipped (awaits more comments about how a bike should look worn and battered :p )

Don’t pay any attention to the buzzkills on here – it’s your bike, so you do whatever you want to it. I’m personally not a fan of how 5s look, but actually think yours is pretty nice. The main thing is that you like it, which you obviously do, and that you enjoy riding it, which I’m sure you will.

One day I will get a malf load, jamaica cake and a syrup cake and put them in a vice and squeeze them together to make one awesome layered carb supplying propelled rocket cake.

Forget Heston, this is true culinary alchemy. Three different layers: MTBapolitan?

and they give you hideous wind

Is that where your username comes from?

Imagine you’re up in court for a crime you didn’t commit.

Oh, I don’t know – it doesn’t seem too bad.

Troutie needs to come up with a super-hyper-mega-strength front light for instances such as this. Scrotes punch you, drive off, feel pleased with themselves…then you hit full beam and burn them to a crisp.

I love the smell of polyester in the morning.

I’m sure I read an article where they reviewed an ASR5 with a 140mm fork and said it was amazing. Bike Radar or MBR maybe?

I personally prefer a bit more travel at the front matched with a shorter-travel shock, as I’ve spent most of my riding life on hardtails and find 140mm at the back a bit much for the riding I do, but if the UK distributor says it voids the warranty then it might be worth listening to them?

Can’t argue with the rest of that build though – bet it’ll ride great!

What kind of riding will you be doing? The Covert is more of a general trailbike if you want to stick with Transition.

Both are cracking rides, but if I had to pick one I’d go for Dalbeattie – if only for the rock features. However, I agree with TFG – you could do both in a day.

GT red, and freeride areas, bits of innerleithen. Plenty of places in the highlands etc.

You rode the GT freeride bit with a child trailer? Awesome. Please tell me you hit the wallride too…

I thought XX forks had totally different damping than the other blackbox forks, which is slightly less plush/controlled but lighter – more designed for racing than trail use? See here.

No matter what you buy, a few months down the line there’ll always be a better, faster, lighter, etc, etc, model.

    ^^^this.

What’s to say that you wouldn’t wait for another three months then Ibis (or Santa Cruz or whoever) announce something better? If you kept that up you’d never actually own a bike – there will always be some minor improvement just around the corner!

In this particular instance, most of the updates will probably make absolutely no discernable difference. And while you may not plan on running the HD in 160 mode that often, I’d happily pay the 1 lb weight penalty to have that option. Also, as you quite rightly state, the VitP colour is much cooler than any of the SL-R options, and we all know that’s the most important thing.

If you needed more convincing, by the time three months have passed you will have missed the best riding of the year.

Basically, stop whinging like a big girl, be happy with the fact that you’ve got one of the best, most desirable bikes on the market (we should all be so lucky!) and go out and ride the bloody thing!

That looks like it was fun. :-)

(Apart from the bit about halfway through the first vid where riders were going over that mini jump and just stopping in the middle of the trail causing a pileup that others had to swerve to avoid.)

    homemade carbon post, really????!!!!

Otherwise looks nice. Lucky kid. :-)

I assume they meant to say the world’s first carbon hardcore hardtail. Not sure if that’s true either, but what they’ve put up there certainly isn’t. :D

BOS forks, Point One pedals, SixC cranks, The One brakes, I9 wheels, are they carbon Havens? Some serious moolah spent on that. Bet it will be amazing to ride.

Should help take the edge off any post-holiday blues! :D

Got to say I’ve always had good dealings with them. I emailed them a few months ago just to shoot the sh*t about what was going on with Evil and got several really helpful responses.

Seem like nice guys to me. Think one of them has been away on honeymoon recently, so maybe they’re just a bit short-staffed.

Thanks all – I’ll pick up some Milton on the way home tonight. That soap made this morning’s pre-work training ride a bit more of a challenge. A hard 60-minute workout with no usable water was no fun at all.

Not strictly a boutique, as it’s part of the Eton Collection (which I suppose is a small chain of luxury boutique hotels, so maybe it is), but I was impressed by the Glasshouse. Stylish, good location (right next to the Playhouse), not too expensive. It even has an honesty bar.

Yes it happens quite a lot , fav trick is to block us in dead ends but we try to avoid them now also have been called to false alarms so they can hit us on the way as they know where we are going

Say whaaaat? So not only do people throw bricks at you, but they go out of their way to make fake calls to do so? Perhaps I’ve got a rose-tinted view of the world, but why in the HELL would people do that? I can see why some scum people might hate the police, but what level of stupid must you be to attack a fireman?

“Damn you guys, trying to put out fires and save lives. Grrr.”

It would be like bricking an ambulance…

EDIT: Wait, maybe people do that too?

If it has to be CRC then you could try 2011 Reba RLT at £420 if you want 120mm travel, 2010 Revelation Race for £400 if you want 140mm?

Crazylegs we have cameras on front and rear of the fire engine as we get bricked so often rather than owt else

You get bricked?! As in people throw bricks at you / the engine?

Who the hell does that to firemen FFS? :|

That was me in the sponsored kit. I was two-thirds of the way through a 27-lap extreme training ride. I had swallowed five litres of water and filled my pack with sand. I also stuffed the tubes of my frame with lead shot and rode with my brakes fully on, just to make things interesting.

One question: do you always ride with your tongue lolling out of your mouth, wailing like a banshee and making what I can only describe as animal sex noises while you thrust your hips towards your bars? It kinda turned me on a bit.

But why would anyone want to use GT85 in the first place

Genuine question: why not? I use it on my bike and it seems to work fine?

I got a Joe Blow Sprint in the sale last summer. Aluminium/steel construction and the gauge is at the top, rather than down by the base. Excellent pump.

    Cheap-ish at Ribble.

So there are some STWers based in South London then? I’m in Richmond.

How much of the Capital Ring is on-road?
