It’s a good looking bike, but for my money it needs matte or etched graphics on it.

    Agreed.

Instead, judging by the pic on the On-One site, they’ve gone for option c) make the graphics bigger and more numerous. Shame.

“what the f*** you looking at mother f*****” a girl said to me outside the Keg, funny!

    That was probably my aunt…

I only ask as my uncle owns it. I haven’t been there for over 10 years (we don’t exactly speak anymore), but I always thought it was a massive sh*t hole so was surprised to see it mentioned.

Schmiken – words actually fail me. Even the shock coil has been painted!

    Where did you find it?

Not a deserved win, but a win nonetheless.

How many lumens in a car headlight?

    About 1000-2000, according to this.

Go Hope or go home! under £30 you cant loose.

That does look very nice, but if I can’t get an E13 Turbo to fit then surely that wouldn’t fit either, unless there’s something I’m missing?

SRAM double chainsets won’t normally accept anything in the ‘big-ring’ position, iirc

So it’s just an issue with SRAM?

you could try a simpler taco-type system (MRP XCG, for example).

Yeah, I had looked at those before, but I think previously MRP only did skids for singles or triples. I see that they recently designed one specifically for doubles – the XCG 40 – but it doesn’t appear to be out in the UK yet. At least I can’t find it online anywhere…

What about the new hope one?

    Does that work with 2×10?

try the burgers/kebab at charlies in Bromsgrove, always special

No way. Now that takes me back. The Charlies special burger was a thing to behold.

But I thought it closed because Charlie died or something?

Two of my friends have got them – one with the old style from a few years ago, and one with a 2011 ES8. The new one is particularly impressive – the suspension action is noticeably better and it’s quite a few lbs lighter too.

It’s a bit too burly for the sort of riding I do, but I struggled to keep up with them on a trans-Alp last October that saw us climb 8km in five days, so they obviously don’t hold you back too much when climbing!

I’m still not 100% sure on the seatpost/stem colours, but otherwise I think they manage to pull it off myself. Horses for courses, s’pose.

    ARSE Bandit?

    ashfanman

Well if the Bandit felt “right” then go for it! Transition frames are designed for more aggressive riding so you should be fine. That said, if you’re looking for something to handle lots of decent-sized drops, have you tried a Covert?

Not ridden an ASR5, but own a Bandit. Really pleased with it.

The frame isn’t the lightest, but a full build still comes in below 30lbs without too much effort (26-27lbs is possible if you really chuck money at it). It’s probably not the fastest up or downhill, but it seems to do everything pretty well. And the overall quality of the build and finish is excellent. All in all, couldn’t be happier.

That said, the ASR5 is by all accounts a bit of a ripper too. Would it be the alloy or carbon one you’d be looking at? I may be wrong, but I think the carbon one only takes a 120mm fork, whereas the alloy one is good for 140mm (or maybe even 150mm?). Bandit is designed for 140mm/150mm (I have the latter and love how it handles).

As always, probably best to arrange a test ride on both and see what you think!

A bit off-topic, but have you already bought the E13 bash? If not, I have a brand new, still packaged black one you can have for £30 posted if you like?

Oh, got it – the colour matching is off between the pink on the rims and the frame/forks. Phew.

I assumed that was from about 2001, but it appears to be a Nukeproof Mega. Hope it belongs to someone with a sense of humour.

That gloriously uncoordinated blue stem suggests it does.

If I remember correctly Avid found that if they punched the enter holes out they nearly always squealed under braking, so they just stopped stamping it out. Great bit of engineering.

That’s correct. It was only for that year’s rotors, and only really a problem with the 203mm (and to a lesser extent 185mm) rotor. They’ve gone back to a stamped-out design this year.

I have one on the front end of my bike and initially thought it was a manufacturing fault, but confirmed it with Transition (who also weren’t very happy with the design). The thing weighs a bloody ton, but has worked well so I’ve stuck with it.

Edit: and the bike looks great, by the way. Striking without being flash. Very nice.

Saddles are a bit too personal to say which is ‘best’. I really don’t find Fiziks at all comfortable, for example, and would say SDG are much better.

And Chris King headsets are pretty Rolls Royce.

I’d also add Shimano SPDs to that list.

Gee also suffered loads of mechanicals last year – he bust a wheel in one run that I watched and the tyre came off in another.

He might struggle to match Gwin, but after that he’s right up there.

Not sure where they got the rrp of £99 for the Urge from

I wasn’t really looking at the RRP – more the fact that they’ll be selling them for £35.

I don’t need a new helmet, but there have been lots of people talking about Urge helmets on here so thought it might be of interest.

Not sure how heavy your current wheels are, but what about Hope Hoops – Flow on ProII Evo? Not too porky, really solid and not too expensive either. I’ve been really pleased with mine so far.
