Just had a look and the custom builder has three kinds of MTB: XC, AM, and “trail centre”. The image for the latter shows a Turner. :D

If it’s just something you want to play around on, try Wrench Science: http://www.wrenchscience.com/

    Limited brands but pretty detailed.

    Lucky.

Looking forward to seeing some photos once it’s built…

In seriousness, what do you need it for?

A temporary double bed for the spare bedroom. I don’t have enough room for a full bed (that room is primarily used as a home office and bike storage), so want something that is comfortable yet packs away when not in use so I can shove it in the wardrobe.

I’m not sure camp mats would really be suitable, and two of the Alpkit Dozers would come to £120, which is a bit spendy.

you know you can fix them?

With your bodging skills, I’ve no doubt. But I don’t have any carbon fibre to hand.

This one is leaking from the valve and I’m chucking it anyway as it’s old and was given to us by my gf’s mother. I just thought I’d see if anyone had any suggestions before I get another one, as I’ve had one start leaking in the past within a few uses (that one was returned to the shop).

Last thing that got chucked out of our bedroom for deflating during the night was me after an evening on the real ale.

    Very good. :D

Smacking into a wing mirror and just riding off at 58 secs, causing a car to emergency stop at 1:35 and, apparently, wiping out some kid at 1:43.

    Yeah, really cool.

    Brilliant stuff. Best on yet.

While the guys are good they’re not pros and that’s what I love about these videos. They’re like us, just a little better (than me at least).

    This.

While it’s fun to watch pros riding ridiculous stuff and jumping 40ft gaps, I know that I’m never going to be able to do it myself. It’s really nice to see normal (but still very skilled) riders tackling normal (but still bloody difficult in places) trails. We try, we sometimes fall off, we try again. Warms the cockles, that does.

Will be running with 150mm front Revs by the way

You can run 150mm forks on a Bandit. (I do on mine.)

It’s ‘only’ 130mm travel at the back, but it’s still a tough frame and no doubt capable of handling way more than I’ll ever throw at it.

Excellent choice. Repeater is a quite brilliant record.

    Hah.

Well, if you were going for a Minor Threat cover you could at least have gone for ‘No Reason’ by And None Of Them Knew They Were Robots. Also pretty much note-for-note, but it’s still awesome.

Nice video – looks like a lot of fun.

Not sure on the song choice though – it’s a terrible cover. I actually quite like RATM and love Minor Threat, but it’s basically just an exact rehashing of the original. Should’ve stuck with the Minors…

Did some riding around Livigno during a trans-Alp across the Swiss and Italian Alps last October. Amazing place. Can’t wait to go back this year.

    Bloody hell.

On a related note, for those of you that haven’t seen it, I thoroughly recommend the documentary about Guy riding the TT: Closer to the Edge. Amazing.

I have it, but apparently it’s no big deal. That said, I did randomly collapse about a month ago. ECG and blood pressure is basically fine, but still waiting for results of bloods, etc.

Always going to be a compromise, assuming by freeride you mean big jumps/drops and by XC you mean long days in the saddle?

I imagine the problem with a 6″ external dropper is where the funk does the 6″ worth of cable go when the post is dropped.

The hose is static, fixed at the bottom of the post, it doesn’t move.

Yep, it doesn’t move at all. Nor would it if they just fixed the cable to a collar at the top of the lower part of the post, like the new Crank Bros one (and several others). Only releasing it in a format that requires internal cable routing, which as far as I’m aware is currently limited to a handful of frames, seems a bit bizarre.

Shame – I’m going to be buying a Reverb soon and a 6″ drop would be perfect for me.

Thanks OP. That’s another £5 for you. My gf just bought a Haglofs jacket – 50% off!

I don’t think you can lower Boxxers like you can with 40s.

I guess you could overfill them with oil, which would effectively reduce the travel, but not sure that’s such a good idea.

Thanks. Yeah, I thought it might be a bit unlikely finding either CoD or Skyrim in a bundle, but I was sure I’d seen a PS3 that came with CoD in the box (and another one with Assassin’s Creed, etc). Can’t seem to find that now though.

That video is nothing but win. Four wondrous minutes of thrills, spills, and hi-vis clothing. Loved it.

    Thanks Kayak.

Those that have done it before, how long does it take roughly, from top to bottom? Just trying to work out what time I’d need to start to make sure I get up and down before 10am.

how pissed of would you be if someone ripped the chords whilst walking over it at Glastonbury????

Awesomely relevant typo there, given you were talking about a music festival. :-)

Thinking of doing this at some point this year. Seem to remember hearing something about restrictions at certain times of the year? What’s the deal?

Good shout on Swrve. I checked the US site and it seems they can provide their trousers to order in any inseam size up to an unfinished 37″, so they should be more than long enough. They look a bit hipsterish for my liking, and £85 is a bit spendy, but worth a look at the very least. Thanks for that.

check out Rose Bikes online. They’re a German based retailer (I’ve used them several times without problems, very quick too) and they have a larger selection of brands in a huge range of sizes.

Yeah, I’ve had a look at Rose, but given the issues I’ve had with fit in the past, I’d be pretty reluctant to order any without being able to try them on first. That said, I’ve always found Rose to be pretty helpful in the past, so I might try emailing them. Maybe they have some lanky chaps in the office that can point me in the right direction!

cant find anything that fits in mtb trousers, have given up and just ride shorts even in the snow

Likewise. But doing a trans-Alp this October I really began to regret only having shorts during the early morning starts. Brrrr. :-)

Try Decathlon as i bought a pair of waterproof cycling trousers from them that are incredibly long legged.

Sounds promising. Are they any of the ones listed on this page? http://www.decathlon.co.uk/pants-mens-clothing_24_0_KIND=homme.html

    Wow. Just wow. 8O

The only thing missing is that ridiculous on-the-fly tyre pressure adjustment thing. Then you’d have a really sweet setup:

EDIT: the more I look at that last pic, the more ridiculous it gets. :D

I can see that its obviously quite different, but on first appearance it looks like an ugly(ier?) GT? imo of course ..

I hadn’t noticed that before, but now you mention it there definitely is a hint of GT to it. Maybe a bit more svelte though.

Would take a brave man to shell out the not inconsiderable amount they’ll no doubt be asking for it, after all the problems with the Revolt…

    EXACTLY. Cream first, jam second.

Interesting, how much does it weigh and how fast is it?

On STW scales, about, say, 28lbs? :D

Hmm, but it has pedals linked to the drivechain – wha?

Yeah, I was thinking that. Surely it can’t be some sort of pedal assist thing? Or maybe that’s some sort of quirky kickstart mechanism?

    This is betterer (Giant vts)

Looks like something this man would dream up.

Is that not a Grammo Skunkworx? Never heard of it before, but read something about it in Pinkbikes Sea Otter coverage? Said they were being sold for $599…

    I blame Ginsters pasties.

Thank God for the newly increased tax rate then. Maybe it’s all a ploy by Osborne et al to improve the UK XC scene? :D

I’ve been using Exotic Mag Ti pedals for about a year now.

I’m 14 stone and have had no problems with the axles whatsoever. They’ve been across the Alps and have taken quite a few hefty bashes on rocks without getting bent. The magnesium pedal body is very soft, however – much more so than the Wellgo MG1s they replaced. I’ve lost several pins on each side. They still grip fine though.

Not sure I’d pay £86 for them though. Maybe look at DMR Vault for that price? A bit heavier, but much sturdier and a good sized platform?

Agree about season 5 of The Wire, but still loved it overall. You should definitely check out Breaking Bad – really, really good. I’m assuming you’ve already seen Band of Brothers? Another classic.

I absolutely loved the two pilot episodes for BSG, and the first series was good, but thought it lost its way a bit towards the end. Continuing the space theme, albeit on a much lighter note, Firefly is well work a look. Really well written and pretty damn funny too.

hence the “fire missile at E6”

I knew it was based on the game, but they don’t literally say that, do they? 8O

I think the guy who had left his bike across the trail had stopped for a poo

I’d have it coming out both ends. It may not be massively technical, but those rocky step-up bits would have me panicking with a drop like that off to the side.

Hats off to all of you saying they have ridden (or would ride) it, but that tips the risk/reward balance a bit too far for my liking.
