It’s rated at 130mm I mentioned the HJ because it was another frame I hadn’t thought about and it looked like it could build up nicely. I think I have been sold on the Evil frame as a suitable HT frame to replace my spicy with. Now I’ve just got to convince the other half it’s a good idea. and that it’s not going to cost us anything really. Honest.

Thanks to all you posters for swaying me finally.

    Cheers

You wouldn’t say that if you knew the students.

Quite a few years ago I bought an ooold Marin Bear Valley off E-bay just replaces the cables and off I went with my wallet £70 lighter. Now after several other more expensive purchases the bike is still running well with most of the original parts. The bike is now being used for a college project with a group of supported studies students who are stripping the frame down cleaning, greasing, stripping the frame and respraying it. You make mountain biking as cheap or expensive as you want to or can. What I do have objection to though are riders who get criticised for having expensive kit and not many skills. It’s their decision to spend the money and if they get pleasure out of that so be it – they are still out on the trails enjoying what they do, surely that is all that does matter.

    Currently running on the Spicy
CK hubs with 819 and R queens UST
    XO rear and shifters
xtr 970 cranks and double chainring & heim 2
    Saint 810 brakes
    Ashima 180 rotors
    Joplin 3 and remote
Renthal Stem and Fatboy 750 bars

I’d have to change the fork to something more sensible than a 160

Haven’t really thought hard about a zesty but I do fancy going back to a good hardtail.

But it puts a smile on my face as soon as I get on it and it’s a blast, if you can get the weight to about 35lbs surely that’s doable as a heavy duty trail bike?

You could either change the axle which is straightforward and will cost you about £65 if I remember correctly, or you can use fun bolts ehich are about £30. You can remove the qr inserts to put the fun bolts in.

You don’t just buy a renthal chainring because it looks pretty – I’ve got 2 now a 36 on my spicy and a 32 on my SS summer season great workmanship and excellent product.

I ride a 2009 Spicy and love it but I also have a Bottlerocket which whenever I ride it puts a smile on my face. It’ll be interesting to see the new model which is supposed to be out this year. Might be worth waiting for.

Swansea has more than its fair share of potholes. But this is the unfair part if you go into a pot hole and damage your can they will only look at your claim for any damage if the pothole has been reported. If no one has reported it it’s time to go whistle.

    Unfair bl…. council.

If you’re going to get the kids to clean your bike do it properly do it with a garden sprayer – my daughter loves it and thinks it’s hysterical.

I’d wait and look at a T4 or T5 Kombi or van. The conversions are quite reasonable.

Why not take a bike bag over with an old bike in it give the bike away and bring the shinny one back. Who knows you could get away with it.

Broke mine rock climbing – bloody stupid I know now. I was in a walking cast for 7 weeks then 2 operations later and a lot of co-proxamol / co-codamol and various anti inflams later It still isn’t right. My physio suggested one of those wobble pads looks like a flat football – to build the strength up and to run in the swimming pool bloody hard work but your weight is supported. 14 years later it still hurts, but I have pain killers for when it does. Cycling is now great but I can’t run due to the joint being knacked. All I can say is take it easy and listen to your body, don’t push too much as you’ll end up in a worse state. I was given 3 choices – take the pain killers – don’t take them or have the joint welded together so there would be no movement. Therefore I’m popping pills when needed.

    Good luck

For god sake take it easy. The bike will always be there but you want a good ankle to allow you to use it so don’t rush…

I may way off the mark but I’d imagine around the £450 -500 mark if it’s in good nick.

I’ve bitten the bullet and bought a S/H Bottlerocket it’s 2009 and was quite a good deal. I did nearly buy a new 2010 frame but sense prevailed, it was a good price though med for £900. So can’t wait to let rip on my new purchase. Thanks for all the advice but in the end sense went out the window and the heart won.

    Cheers all
