Cool thanks. Coming from a tyre that was fitted recently so should be safe enough by the sound of it.

Can’t make my mind up with bloody tyres. Worse than my wife with shoes

Changing from Hans Dampf to Magic Mary on the front. No doubt the weather will go bone dry before the next enduro race in a couple of weeks and I’ll be changing back to the HD just in case the Magic Mary is too draggy 8O

    Last silly question (I think).
If I need to change tyre, anything to be aware of?

Should the sealant be cleaned off the old tyre, or does it matter?

All sorted now, thanks all for the help.
Turned out easier than I thought in the end.

Quick question? – do you really have to use sealant even?
anyone doing it without sealant? or would it be “unwise”

    OK, some good progress

Did what I said there about seating on one side first with a tube, then remove the tube, add valve and it flew up then, and click clicked in, no sealant nor soapy water even.

So, I’ll deflate it now, add some sealant, maybe soap up the bead to be safe, and reinflate and we should be golden as they say.

Tyre is “tubeless easy” which I believe is basically tubeless ready

The problem I have is that when I pump, there is no inflation at all, ie. no air at all being retained – it doesn’t come anywhere close to getting the beads to pop into the rim . its like the tyre bead is just too loose on the rim.

I’m using a track pump if that matters (Joe blow Mountain, – pretty decent volume).

I use Squash safety glasses (as in for the sport squash) a fair bit when I don’t want to use full goggles.
They’re cheap as chips and don’t fog up so much depending on what you get. Suprised more people don’t give them a go to be honest.

Just moved to spds last summer after 5 years or so on flats.
Don’t think I’d ever go back. SPDs have broken some bad habits for me, – like throwing the leg out on corners (as if I was Sam Hill!) unecessarily and now I really commit to steeper technical stuff without thinking, whereas before I was too easily inclined to drift the foot out, even if not quite a dam, hence ending up with wonky body positions. I reckon the best place for your feet 95% or more of the time is on your pedals.

Now, I work my hips and the bike more. I’m def faster, – pedal harder and can put the hammer down out of corners better.

Its hard to say which is actually “better”, – things ight be different moving from clips to flats, if you are already in the habit of keeping your feet on your pedals.

They say that ultimately the only difference between someone who commits a crime and someone who does not is the ability to rationalise it.

Every thief doing time in jail has a way of rationalising it:
    eg.
“They have everything and I have nothing, – I gotta do what I gotta do”
“They have insurance anywaym so its no loss to them”
“They can easily afford it, its nothing to them”
“They left they door open, can’t believe their stupidity, I’m teaching them a valuable lesson”
“I have an addiction problem, I can’t help it”
I know this from experience, – every single one of them has a way of rationalising their actions.

Ask yourself, – are you just trying to find ways to rationalise what you know is wrong at the end of the day?

This one of the new ones?

Thats the demo version from last year, – but the Pro Race version looks almost exectly like that, – forks are 160mm though.

    Protective Snapra owner?

Not quite the bargain he hoped it would be, after selling the E13 wheels which also fell apart & having buy something else…

Its well known that there were tolerance problems with the mech hanger, – the chainstays have been redesigned. All new models have the redesigned ones and YT are replacing any existing ones promptly.

Basically, its down to teething problems that are now sorted.

They’ve put the price up by €200 on the top model with no real spec boost – Unless you particularly like the new colours, I’d save money and go for the old one I think.

Top model has newer FCV BOS forks at 160mm, carbon bars, diff tyres, apex stem.
Not sure how much better the FCV forks would be though.

Frame was always going to stay the same, – cost of changing carbon moulds/process so soon is just too high.
TTL works for a lot of people, depending on your height.
Agree about the wheels, although, the word is that e-13 have changed all their bearings and seals just in the last month.

For me its minion front and a Ardent or ardent race out back.

How does Ardent Race compare to plain Ardent?

    aroche
    Free Member

Use an Ardent myself. Seems a decent balance between fast rolling and all round grip. I’m not really one for changing my rear tyre based on the weather though (I do on the front, constantly).

Yeah, thats exactly what I’m after.
Ardent and new Nobby Nic seem very similar, wonder which one has the edge.

Southern highlands is a few hours from the snowy mountains. I believe there is bike park chairlift style riding around Thredbo during the summer. There was a dh world champs in Canberra a few years back as well which should be a couple of hours from there

    1. Few people have mentioned long waiting times, is that because you ordered ages ago? Or is it still currently the case, just if I look on the website now it only says that there is a waiting period for the size large, or have you all ordered large? If I were to order a Med and it shows as currently available, how long do you think I would expect to wait for it to arrive?

Don’t think its much of a problem anymore, at least not at the moment.

It may or may not become a problem for 2015 versions, hard to say. Probably, waits won’t be so long as they are probably on top of the frame process now (they had some “teethng issues” with the chainstay design).

Whens the new model out thats what im waiting for

    Same here,
Should be announced in January, early February by the sounds of it- with some luck they will ditch those e-thirteen wheels.

I’m probably after a version with pikes, – spec most likely will be Pikes, black monarch plus, Guide brakes and hopefully a different wheelset.

China, I’ll let you dwell on that for a while.

China as a communist single party system has more in common with a theocracy than any modern secular “more atheistic” society.
The reason communist regimes denounce religion is mainly because it competes with it from totalitaran point of view.

    Russia ?

Yeah, Russia is a great example alright these days
The orthodox church is literally Putin’s right hand man in governing the country

There are many societies today that still discriminate against homosexuals and which are largely atheist.

To the contrary, there is a strong correlation between equality and societies which are more secular (ie. modern atheistism which is what we are talking about here). In fact, most quality of life indicators (crime rates, wealth, education levels) fare much better the more secular a society is.

The current pope is fairly progressive. He has made several changes to doctrine that have moved the Catholic church forward in a positive way. I think he is a good influence on the church. Still a long way to go but he cannot change things too dramatically too quickly as he has to gather support from cardinals and bishops.

Don’t be fooled by Pope PR, – because that’s what he is basically. Its no conincidence that Greg Burke came on board from Fox News to help them on the PR side around the time Pope Francis came on board. ( http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/fox-news-correspondent-media-consultant-vatican-greg-burke-341434 ) Like any corporation whose name is in the mire, you need to crank up the PR effort.
Pope Francis may have lovely things to say to hint that things might change, but not a single line of official doctrine has or will change. Underneath the platitudes, Francis is absolutely behind the Vatican line.

Two mates bought them 4 months ago , they are currently in the process of warranty claims as they have both failed , spend your money on something else is my advice

There were known issues with the chainstay and hanger design. YT redesigned the chainstays and there appear to be few if any problems since, based on 150 pages on the Capra thread over on Pinkbike. All bikes beng shipped now have the new chainstay design

In a similar quandary to the OP, – but my concern is whether the 170mm BOS is too much travel, this is what makes me inclined to go for the Comp with Pikes. I would be using the bike probably 50/50 for trail riding and enduro, – very much as a do-it-all. I have a DH bike also.
If they did a 160mm BOS version it would be clear cut for me.
Anyone (particularly current owners) have any thoughts?

How do you Capra guys feel the bike is on less steep downhill, trail stuff- just wondering if its too much bike for not so “DH” singletrack.
I know its not a trail bike obviously, – but, is it nimble and does it respond well when you put the hammer down?
I had a Nukeproof Mega AM but found it a bit too heavy for my liking, – more monster truck than agile. On the other hand I currently ride a Transition Bandit and would like someting a bit more suited to enduro racing. I also have a DH bike fwiw.
    Any thoughts?

A specific example on Ireland, I was told by a good friend (from South) that although I was Catholic I would not be welcome (or even safe) in Republican bars as I was English and that would by far over-rule my religion as a factor.

Your average Irish person probably wouldn’t be safe in those kind of bars either, – they exist, but at least down the south, are far and few between. They’re just rough pubs more than anything else. You’d probably have to go out of your way to find them. The vast, vast majority of people in Ireland couldn’t give a toss about that kind of thing.

Best ‘explanation’ I’ve seen postulates that, under certain circumstances, a human being, which has a fair amount of electrical activity going on, can leave an electromagnetic ‘imprint’ on surrounding structures, that some people can react to.
It at least gives a rational, scientific explanation to a phenomenon that otherwise is explained by ‘spirits unable to move on from this plane of existence’.
Never had any kind of experience I could explain as ‘supernatural’, either.

No, – it gives a completely unfounded, superficial, untested and baseless hypothesis that counts as nothing in the realm of science.

It may be “an explanation” and it uses “sciency” words like electromagnetic, – but its is far from scientific

Hard to fault the bandit as a trail bike in fairness.
The suspension isn’t the most sophisticated, but, it’s simple, reliable and does the job, – and its poppy which is great fun.
If you are building one up, – try to put pikes on it though. I have revs on mine, – they are good (waaaay better than 32mm foxes which i have also had in the past).
If I was buildng it up again though, I would go with 150mm pikes.

Bandit as a model is on the way out afaik.
Transition are moving away from the single pivot based suspension design in their newer models, eg. patrol , scout

I have a bandit 26 btw, – awesome bikes ,though I am due a change, more due to innate fickleness than any shortcomings of the bike

    How about pedally singletrack?
Does it feel like an “AM Bike” (heavyish but touch of a battering ram) or closer to a trail bike in terms of nimbleness?

I actually have a canyon spectral cf 9 ex on order (February so I’m not ruling out cancelling if there are delays etc.), which is something like a slightly shorter travel and lighter capra, but even better specced and built aggressive in.It would probably suit the trails we have over here in Ireland better, which tend to be technical and suit something that accellerates well.

Still very torn with the idea of the capra, if I thought it would pedal nearly as well I would probably go for it
    – ah well, first world problems I guess…

Interested in this also, less so about actually climbing though, and more about flatter, not so steep single track. I suppose I’d be comparing to an aggressive trail bike. I’ve no doubt it shreds on steeper stuff but interested in how nimble it is and how well it accelerates. I’m seeing real world weights around 30lbs. I’m guessing there is still scope to lose some weight, -lighter tubeless tyres etc.
