I read these threads with interest, it always amazes me the bad experiences people have had with windows. Granted DOS was the pits and held PC’s back, Windows 3.1 was a bloody joke. Unix or OS2 should have made it however since NT I’ve never really had problems with MS stuff certainly not to the extent that everyone on here moans about it.

I honestly cannot understand what these people do to their PC’s, I’ve owned 4 in 20 years all costing considerably less than a MAC. The first lasted 5 years, the 2nd 8 which in fact still works running w2k, the third 5 years and my current which is 2 years old. I don’t think I’ve ever had a virus and maybe did clean installs a couple of times due to me installing a load of tut (my problem).

I agree with the comments on bloatware that comes with windows is off putting which probably doesn’t help peoples perceptions.

I don’t understand peoples hate of Windows 8 either seems fine just adding extra on top of the current windows platform.

As I don’t use MAC’s I can’t comment on how good they are but they must be good due to the outpouring of love for them. My short experience of testing application on them was a bit meh, not slating them because at the end of the day they are just a tool for a job so just pick the one which works for you. I used it for two days, it crashed twice. This surprised me considering all the fanfare of how bullet proof they are and how windows is crap (can’t remember the last time windows blue screened on me must be 5+ years ago). But hey it was probably something that could of corrected and I won’t judge OSX on it.

I must say that I love Visual Studio and miss it when I have to jump to other development environments – I know there will be haters but for my roles Visual Studio has always been great.

Also colour blind, red green. To be honest it’s only really affected me knowingly in a handful of situations. I first found out when my older brother went to look around senior school and the biology labs had the test laid and and we all realised I couldn’t do them and therefore was colour blind. Hard to take as I wanted to be a pilot at the time, apparently the primary school knew all along probably why I had so many eye tests. The next time it mattered I was 6 month into a electronic engineer apprenticeship and I failed the ishihara tests, they then gave me a ball of mixed up wires and asked me to pick out green, red, blue brown etc which I believe I passed but they said I had to move from electronics to software apprenticeship. The only other time(s) is sometimes with clothes I get brown/green mixed up and when I used to play video games if it was fifa I struggle being the player with the red circle player highlighter and in first person shooters where the cross hairs where red. I also struggle with the red/green small on off led(s). All of the above infuriate me that there aren’t colour blind settings especially s/w ones as in games.

Interesting hearing other peoples experiences as I’ve never come across anyone else admitting to being colour blind. So good to hear that others get the inane questions about what colour is this/that. I hadn’t really thought about how crass the question was though maybe I should of been offended instead of irked at the ignorance of the question.

So for the fellow hue challenged folk it’s evolution you know so we are superior 😉

Color blindness is usually classified as a mild disability, however there are occasional circumstances where it can give an advantage. Some studies conclude that color blind people are better at penetrating certain color camouflages. Such findings may give an evolutionary reason for the high prevalence of red–green color blindness.[4] There is also a study suggesting that people with some types of color blindness can distinguish colors that people with normal color vision are not able to distinguish.[5]

But I don’t know what that bloody mug says…..

Also interested in this topic and not well versed in the subject.

I presume those Cambridge Audio Minx 2 would require a separate amp?

What about using active speakers such as m-audio / audioengine would that be any good for a TV/music setup like the OP describes?

I’m in the same boat and can’t decide between the caad 8 or Synapse linked or a rose sl-pro2000, a canyon roadlite al 6.0 or maybe build a genesis equilibrium or go cheaper whith a planet x rt58 tiagra.

Sorry to hijack the thread but you seem in the same decision process as my self.

I rode bmx pretty exclusively for 2-3 years a while (when I was a spritely 35) back.Mainly trails or parks that flowed like trails (most of which are gone now).Ended up getting a custom standard bykes 250trl made as I’m 6’3″ and there was nothing but race bikes available at the time.
I assumed I’d keep it forever but I’m seriously thinking of selling it now (just to make some space!)
    Standard 250trl custom geo 21.5tt,14.25cs
    Oddessey Director forks
WTP Mad Max (8.75 bars),oddessey elementary stem
G-sport marmoset/ratchet hubs on sun envy rims
    Pigmy cranks,kink sprocket,shadow half link.
    Pivotal seat,fly brake,nokon etc.
I dread to think how much it cost new (frame was £450!)
If anyone is interested give me a shout and I’ll find some photos and have a think about a price (>£200 but <£400……ish).
    Edit.
Or I might go to the skate park tomorrow

Damm if only the tt was 21″ I’d have that off you as its exactly the sort of build I am looking for..

I presume you ordered straight the frame from standard, did they sort out the import stuff? Thinking of getting a frame from them Infact your bike might be a good donor

How unfit? I hadn’t really done any serious bike work since I was a teen and wasn’t particularly bike fit when I had my 1 on 1 but come the end of the lesson I was gutted my time was up as I felt Jedi could of progressed me a lot further than he already had (which was loads).

Too bad I am so far away now as I’d love to go back, one day maybe.

One good thing I took from the session was how I had missed pissing around jumping bikes.

Yeah the only one we have found is these http://www.eskimo-freeride.com/ guys operating in Macedonia. The only cat skiing in Europe apparently.

Bit of a bugger to get to though. WizzAir do have cheap no frills flights from Luton. Then it is a 100 euro taxi ride from Skopje airport.

Gets a decent write up here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2008/nov/16/catskiing-skiing-macedonia

About 10 years ago there used to be one in Valle D’Aosta forgotten the name of the village it was in but it wasn’t far from Aosta it’s self.

It was quite a small operation and I went with an Italian guide called Patrick Raspo who used to ride with the old school legend Peter Bauer. Not sure if it’s still going.

Which bike do you like the best and ride the most – use that I’d say.

I don’t get all this skill compensator thing. A corner is a corner, a bunny hop is a bunny hop, a jump is a jump no matter what bike you are on.

I recently did a jumps and drop course with Tony after not really riding properly for 20 years on a blur but I reckon I could of gained the same results on my 96 GT avalanche or a 80’s GT bmx.

The bloke knows how to get you moving/learning or just awakening what you all ready have.

    Thanks again Jedi.

Tetley is that even Tea? I did MTFU yesterday and drank black tea but as you allude to it’s rank so i cried off like a big blouse. Will try darjeeling and earl grey and maybe the old slip back to milk with tea.

Thanks for the diary offer how much

Sorry to all in bringing this thread back up but a couple of mundane questions for iDave.

You mention you should do intensity and resistance work.

What sort of resistance exercise would you advise for someone who rides, swims and surfs (not enough).

Intensity I presume this can be done in the pool as well if so how long and how often would you suggest doing this?

Also where is this famous iDave diet thread I am really intrigued and also need to lose some poundage.

    Thanks in advance.
