    Hi howsyourdad!

Thanks a lot for all that… no i’m not going there for university, actually going job hunting (know anyone in the architecture business?!). I used to live in Trondheim, I went to uni there, so I know åre as we made the trip over a couple of times and it is great!

I like the sound of what you have written anyway, sounds like there is plenty of riding around! And thanks for the link to Hillside Cycling i’ve just found their website and to be honest until your response I was very sceptical of how much decent riding there would be but it looks like i’m wrong!

I’ll send you an email as well as it would be great to be in touch with a few local riders up there as I only know a couple of people in the city, none of which ride.

@Nickewen this could have been your flash, I live in the alps and we get it all the time, just huge flashes (like lightning) without any sound… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_lightning

Oh and if you need a place to stay i’d totally recommend Willy’s bunkhouse (features in the video) as he was such a nice man, had a really cool old skool, basic bunkhouse and was so accommodating!

I could recommend the trail that goes over form Morvich to the Falls of Glomach as an out and back. You have a pretty cool section form the top of Bealach na Sroine down to the falls itself, then coming back is a pretty good descent! Feels proper wild up there and it isn’t tooo far, probably a bit longer than 1 or 2 hrs though.

We tried to do it as a loop starting at a camping barn in the valley to the north of Dornie and the climb up along side of Falls of Glomach was bloody scary! Very exposed and steep and unrideable with massive drops of death. It was wet wet wet and we got too many punctures. Sooo… I wouldn’t recommend that.

The video might give you a little idea, don’t let the rain put you off.

    Falls of Glomach Ride

Otherwise i’m sure there are a few cool trails out of Morvich in other directions!

    Cheers for the info guys

Smokey – Ridewithgps.com does the job very well, gives me distance, elevation (and profile), able to export pdf and jpg or elevation or map and has many map option overlays, perfect!

Now.. it does look as if my route is a little long for day 1 of bike – packing tour Grenoble – turin, 62km with 3500m elevation hmm

Thanks for that Mike, that is very useful!

I am actually still unsure as to how I would view the file online or in software. I know a couple of sites for OS maps (like wheresthepath for example) that I would be able to view that on but since i’m looking at trails in France/Italy do you know any sites I can upload gpx/kml files to to overlay and view the data?

    Cheers

Nope it isn’t live streamed but there is usually some pretty good round up video of 30mins or so only a day or two after.

This thread is epic, probably the most i’ve laughed reading the forum in 10 years! Mostly when people mention the word huff, makes me chuckle as I can just imagine the huffing

MSP – They flippin love them down here, i’m alright going left but i’m a bit of a fairy going right!

Superfli- There was quite a few of the EWS guys racing, after these races i’ve realised just how many top EWS guys come from that area of France and as you say it is no wonder, the amount of clubs, races, trails, events they have is amazing, definitely going to start looking for jobs down there!

I’m going to have to go with another washing up related one over here…

There is a dishwasher in the house, however instead of putting the dishes straight in the dishwasher when done she insists on putting them in the sink, that on one hand is just daft as as other people have already mentioned it takes even longer to come back and put them in the dishwasher later. The second thing is that even if she doesn’t want to put straight in the dishwasher they HAVE to go in the sink, they can’t just go ‘on the side’ why? because she doesn’t want to see the mess, so they go in the sink so they are out of site, therefore rendering the sink unusable!

Also terrible at turning off lights

Also terrible at having the apartment in sauna mode instead of just putting on a jumper or trousers or something.

Also does the thing where she asks me to pass her things which as just as close, if not closer, to her than me?!

Hey Sideshow, glad my blog was of help! I’ll let you browse at your own leisure there but the biggest piece of help I can give you is probably this map…

MTB Map of whole of Norway

I would suggest finding places you like in terms of scenery/tourism then check out that map and see what is nearby riding wise 🙂

Coppice – That is ONE of the cracks, the rear triangle ended up riddled with cracks, all down that strut that connects the chainstay and seatstay on the non-drive side.

Ticsmon – It is a carbon Mondraker foxy XR 2015. That is my bedroom come living room come study come bike workshop… I live on my own 😉

Ok so scrap that and feel free to laugh at my stupidity!! I have succeeded in removing the bolt!

12941041_10156763362250717_534961793_o by Willy Gibson[/url], on Flickr

As you can see on the bolt behind there is an allen key head on both sides of the pivot so I assumed this means there was a bolt screwing into a nut of some sort and I required an allen key in each end turning in opposite directions to release it… Turns out the it is just two ends of the same bolt, the head and bottom of the bolt has an allen key head in it to allow for easier access… hence my two allen keys were just forcing against each other. Oops! Well I know for next time! And there is a piece of advice for you other daft Foxy owners like myself!

    Full music playlists here

Or you can go search which DJ was playing at the time, go onto their profile, choose which show it was and there will be a full tracklist from the show, if you listen online you can also create a profile on BBC Radio website and add tracks to your own playlist as they are played then you can export that playlist to youtube/spotify/whatever, pretty good really, I use it a lot!

I’m 5’11” and have a large Mongraper Foxy, size wise I think it is great, standover is much better than my Ibis Mojo HD in Medium that I had but the reach is geet long which felt really weird at the beginning but you get used to that!

But agreed, try and try one before you buy due to how different they are to most other bikes

I never made it as far south as Bergen unfortunately, well as far south west. Managed to get right up north and did a bit of riding at Bodø up in the arctic circle which was pretty cool (in both senses of the word), photos are a bit crap like but here you go

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Not sure I can answer many of these questions but i’ll have a go…

@euanc – Sounds like a great trip! Maybe you already know but trains there are pretty slow (lots of little stops) but they are very nice, clean and efficient, you have to pay a half price ticket for you bike or if you put it in a cardboard box it is free (yeah you tell me the logic?). As for locations – I think there would be a lot around Kaupanger/Sogndal and if you look on my page at Molde that we rode the day before Kaupanger it is actually just along the road. I also spent some time in a place called Vang which I know has some trails and I know some people there who ride so could maybe even put you in contact if you fancy. I don’t know of a lot of the type of trails you say but then I am sure there are that type of thing since ‘Terrengsykkel’ is a big thing in Norway which is basically riding xc bikes on gravel roads fast. You would do well to get scouring these two maps for trails

    OS style maps for Norway

Specific MTB map of Norway This one is REALLY good for finding trails

@nedrapier – We drove past Stryn! They are some flippin great photos! Really like them, I just had my phone camera. It looks like you had a lot more snow than us, what time of year did you go?

@mick_r – I used a couple of those, sometimes on my own, sometimes with Norwegian friends, no one ever mentioned about paying while on bikes…

@Matt_ss_xc – July / August are basically the only two months I wasn’t there, I arrived in Sept and left in June but never really experienced midges at all to be honest!

@howsyourdad1 – You really weren’t far from me then, I was living in Trondheim and we even wen’t riding over in Åre one weekend!

@Santacruzsi – You must go at some point, Geriangerfjord and surrounding area are spectacular

I would also recommend WordPress for the absolute beginner, I did the same as you, but don’t use the proper wordpress install onto your machine version, it will be confusing, just use the version that is hosted by wordpress and you build it online via their website.

It has a fairly easy site which kind of acts as an interface between your input and html/css/all the crap elliott said. This explains some basics of how to set up a wordpress hosted site/blog

As the one who originally asked the question I thought I best update – Just received my RX100 mk1 a few days ago. Had a bit play with it and loving it so far, I have plenty to learn though to get the right photos as there are far more settings than I am used to!

One thing I was slightly unsure about is there seems to be quite a bit of side to side play in the lens compared to what I would expect, is that normal?

Cheers for all the pics and links and updates, this thread went way further than I was expecting!

Colster808 – Question about that case! I was looking at it and though tit would be a good shout but wanted to know if it had any belt loops on it? I was thinking I might try get a case and attach it to my top tube for easy access to the camera instead of in my bag or in my pocket, especially if i can get a case that is supposedly crush proof and waterproof as that one claims.
