Did you see the review on Pinkbike? The Rallon was originally more XC orientated (as Orbea are as a company) and for next year they have really changed it for a more descent orientated bike. Take a look at the Pinkbike review if you have not already…

Of course you dont just build a city all at once (apart from in China) but you design the principals, infrastructure and ideas for it to be built around.

My first thought would be to have a go at designing a city ‘for the bike’. As mentioned there are a lot of cities designed around the car or adapted for the car (much more so in America). But since we are all pushing for greener transport methods, what if we were to have a go at making that city for the bike. Everyone complains that the city is designs with bikes as an after thought and the current systems dont work, so what if we were to design it with the bike as the principal transport and public transport along side it, with cars being sidelined.

I think it would be an interesting exercise, the density, distances, range of travel, culture… everything would be different.

what a plum, as numerous people said, your phone would do the job and you would not need to do anything except turn the GPS on then upload when you get home.

I have a sony and the battery on it lasts fine using it all day on gps/strava and taking photos, doing the usual

There was 3 leaves on the ground in Hexham on 17th august and 37 leaves on the ground in Rothbury on the 28th August.

This means it will turn cold on the 18th November and last for approximately 24 days reaching temperatures of -13.

    Just sayin’

opinions? its pretty solid r.e hubs/bb/headset, looks much sexier in real life i think, light as a feather, tyres evidently need replacing, needs a polish, some good/some bad.

I have the option to go back for it later.. price is €180 but the fella already said €150 and i didnt even have to ask so i think there is more room for haggling…

I just kinda like it, definitely dont need it. got a SS cotic roadrat out here but I could sell that and use this as i would only be around town since as soon as you leave the city (Grenoble) its huuuge mountains so wether its ss/fixie doesnt make so much difference i guess.

    oh decisions decisions

cheers for the pointers guys, i spent a few more hours researching this and found a few more ways to speed up/clean up the mac…. some of which are mentioned above. It seems to be running better now but essentially i’ve ended up buying more ram.

I have found that the main culprit for slowing down the computer is the web browser all three: firefox, chrome and safari use over a gigabyte of RAM with say around 8 tabs open and I dont have any plug-ins or extra crap running thats just the bare version downloaded from the net, PITA really but more RAM should sort me out… If I am feeling adventurous I may upgrade to a SSD at some point if it continues to be slow!

Dont know if this really helps, may be more confusing than anything but its a little map I built up of places while I was at uni there, there is also a lot more than is marked on here but unfortunately not really marked on maps so required a bit of hunting/exploring to find to link up to a good loop so again you probably are best finding someone to follow with a bit of local knowledge.

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=202095187671783726491.000480865056ad7077bf9&msa=0&ll=57.15263,-2.204132&spn=0.142644,0.41851

Kirkhill is pretty good, not the shitey man made stuff which is about 3 rollers and 2 berms but if you go away exploring in the woods you can find some quite decent stuff, personally I found some better natural trails in the woods that are on the opposite side of the dual carraigeway to the main car park.

Scotly is great, if you dont have someone to follow I would say just go up to the tower at the top of the hill and if you look back down towards Banchory there are some trails away down to the right behind you kind of direction.

Bennachie is the range of hills that Pitfichie is part of, that includes the hills you can see for miles around that has the hill that looks like is has a big nipple on the top. Pitfichie has two tracks but isnt great but if you do those and also have a go at the xc route up round Cairn William thats a decent day/evening out. There is an FC map online. There are a lot of tracks on the rest of the hills around there… Milstone, Mither Tap and Oxen Craig but a lot of them are properly surfaced and fulllll! of drainage ditches, I would recommend the track that runs North off Milstone (No. 9 on the map below) and also the path that runs North off Oxen Craig (No.3 on the map below.)

Or if you are feeling adventurous go and have an explore up some tracks away up the dee valley! Some EPIC scenery and valleys to be had up there. I could go on but you might be getting bored by now… If you want some more specifics let me know and ill see if i can help (unfortunately dont live there any more otherwise I would show you around)

It is a good idea though, I am game to try and make this happen. Plenty of car boot sales go on without anyone complaining so if you could find someone who was interested in biking to host the sale and have a couple other things happening like coffee/food/bike stuff would be a pretty good day out surely?

I KNEW there would be someone! always is on here… two years ago I went to live in Slovenia for a year and managed to find someone on here that lived out there. Mugsy I am sure I will be in touch to go for a ride sometime… I am bringing my bike(s), got an ibis mojo hd and having lived in London for a year a SS road bike, so might need to ditch that for some gear I imagine, the actual city is pretty flat though so it might be ok for just using around the city…

Nae Bad! 2nd in Sport and 5th Overall, well chuffed with that!

Definitely getting myself entered into some more enduro, done two now and they have been great fun, i think the whole relaxed uphill getting to natter with people is what makes the races a lot more fun…

I have been there all day watching, was awesome!

The commentater guys were great (is he the same guy who commentates on the BDSs? We were standing in the crown before it began and could see gee up on the bus but were really far away and were trying to work out if it was him, we concluded it must be as hes the only oddball that tucks his ears in his hat!

I imagine you guys say the boxcar with the giant says down the sides, that guy looked like he had snapped his neck! THAT was nasty, but he was fine?! lucky guy. The ramp was a proper kicker before they turned it round though and the longer carts were getting proper bucked, was scary! Loved some of the carnage though, great day out for a fiver!
