btw, 5700 (the new 105) is supposed to be a big step up in quality and durability. From what i hear, 5700 is worth it.

(Heard this from people i’ve ridden with and also from a couple of bike shops)

Still, i’m hoping to get 6700 in the next few weeks.

TBH, i bought a spoon and thought it was horrible. Gave it a few weeks riding on it and it actually ‘broke in’. Feels rather comfy now.

What’s the deal with bibs vs shorts? Isn’t it just more to get sweaty under?

    I’ll answer this one properly.

If you’re wearing the correct clothing, you’ll be no more sweaty.

The point of bibs are 2fold.

Firstly it is to stop anything digging and gripping arount the stomach area, possibly making you breathe easier (If you breathe properly through your whole lungs, not your chest)

Secondly, the straps keep the pad in place, and you don’t get the saggy arse syndrome that shorts can give.

But yeh, bibs are ace. (And therefore more popular and have a wider choice)

As for saddles and shorts, they’re all personal choices. Saddles – Get your arse measured and pick a saddle that fits. Also, shorts are very personal too, some people perfer bigger pads, some smaller, some thinner and some thicker. It’s a case of trying some on and getting what is comfortable .You’ll know what is good before walking out of the shop.

TBH, it looks nowhere near tech enough to make it challenging. I’ve enjoyed the last couple of olympic races as they’ve been more natural, not a fire road all the way around.

I think that there are lots of good places around london for the race, just that farm just hasn’t got the altitude change for decent racing.

But it’ll be great for the spectators, mostly open with good visability.

The trance is a fantastic bike. You will not regret it if you purchased it.

One thing i had to do, is set the limit past the small sprocket on the cassette, otherwise the chain would never go down to that gear. (Giving me 8 instead of the 9 on sram X-9)

    Maybe try that?

For £4500, you can get a fully build santa cruz nomad.

Sure, the spec won’t be as good as the trek or giant, but come ooonnn, carbonium frame!

    Don’t get mismatched colours…

Looks like you snapped a rear end and orange never had one in the correct colour.

unfortunately, no savings accounts offer good returns at the moment. Even with ISAs you’re losing money as the interest rates are lower than the rate of inflation.

Best bet is to get onto moneysupermarket and have a look at what they recommend.

Or, whack £30k into premium bonds and hope that you hit the £1mill!

Tri bars will help you to keep aero.

    One word of advice..

Ride whatever the weather. If you’re committed to a ride, go out, even if it’s chucking it down.

Should be fairly straight forward to get the speed for that ride. Just means getting the distance, then working on the speed.

slack enough so the chain can wobble about 1cm up and down when no load on it.

how about speaking to easton, maybe they’ll fix ;)

And also, get yourself a torque wrench. Should stop this for in the future.

    I agree, they’re pretty good.

Bought a torque wrench through them the other week. They were £25 cheaper than anywhere else (Somehow) so i ordered. After i ordered i looked at reviews, and if i had read the review prior to ordering, i wouldn’t have ordered through them (with the tales of non-arriving packages, poor online service, misleading stock levels etc), but yeh. Ordered on the saturday, the item turned up on the wednesday.

    Pretty good i think!

    +1 for Fatbirds!

pulled a muscle yesterday so i decided not to ride today. Hate my decision as it’s such nice weather.

Tunes on the road bike when soloing, no tunes when on the mtb.

I would say fitness over technical ability is the key.

If you’ve pushed it around the trail, the final ascent out of the valley can be soul destroying when the novice is already knackered before the climb, but no-where near as long as i remember it. (Or as long as the first climb at the marin trail). It’s still a slog back up though.

Well, you’re still not allowed to ride on a pavement, but when you’re riding along, sometimes you will think, it’s actually much safer for this stretch for me to go on the pavement.

In that scenario, the rider thought that it was safer on the pavement than going around the road works on the very busy road.

It’s all about doing an instant risk assessment in your head and deciding on what is reasonably practicable for the scenario.

i run a sram x-0 shifter, x-9mech, x-7 front shifter and slx front mech.

I’d do the same with shimano. You can run (Probably) shimano alivio with an XTR shifter..

Looks really really nice, but i’m confused to the spec of the bike..

the worlds heaviest brakes, 180mm forks, and an air shock? (And really, SLX on a carbon? Surely XTR is the only option when you’re spending £2500 on a frame)

I also cant see where the 30lbs come from..looks like it’d be at least 32/33lbs. (Especially with the brakes and forks)

Doesn’t make sense paying RRP for a Giant frame only though because there are always so many discounted full bikes around.

    Truth.

I bought the bike with the shock i wanted, then stripped it, sold the parts and built it up with the spec i wanted.

Worked out cheap that way. Ended up with a better bike than i started with with about the same outlay.

Maxxis Ardents. That’s my personal preference.

You’ll get all sorts of answers asking that question, so dont be surprised if you come out of this thread more confused than before.

You’ll get a sora groupset, ally frame with carbon forks and a cheap set of wheels.

It’ll be something that’ll just keep going and going. Not fast, but still good enough to give you the bug.

TBH, for that money, get down to the shops.

For a couple hundred more, you’ll get probably a tiagra groupset, and a better set of wheels.

People actually ride bikes? I thought the whole fun was just to sit on the internet saying that you do, not actually going out…..

Honestly, it is as easy as the manual suggests. Hardest part is finding a 6point low profile socket instead of the 18point chamfered sockets that you get everywhere.

MORE CARBON AS IT WILL GIVE YOU IMMUNITY.

I ride 3 miles to work wearing my MTB baggies and a merino tee.

No way am i riding to work in suit pants and a polo shirt. (Especially because of the SPD-SLs on the road bike :D)
