Thanks robhughes! I may get the roady out in the next week or so and give it a go.. (Drive somewhere near to it, and then go for a ride over there)!

What do you mean you bent the screw down seal? If you’re talking about the little screw ring that goes over the valve and sits on the rim, it’s not really needed. You can do without if you want.

Or if you’re talking about the little barrel at the end, just bend it back and be careful in the future.

bedding them in is a fine art..

Read on the Sram website that they rekon going from a walking pace to a slow crawl (Without locking or stopping the wheels) about 10 times, then go from a running pace to nearly stopped 10 times.

Worked for mine. My brakes are now super powerful.

I topped that process off by going from sprinting speed in the fastest gear my bike has to nearly stopped as fast as i can. Get a little bit of warmth in there and they’ll be reet. Don’t feather the brakes until they’re bedded in.

Same with mine.. Wound the bite point all the way out, but it’s only about an inch and a half from the bars.

I’ve since learned to love the bite point that close. Means i can leave more of my hand on the bars.

I preferred SRAM to SHIMANO until i borrowed a demo bike with SLX all round.

I’m now saving up for an upgrade to XTR after my holidays!

SRAM shifters have a heavier feel i find, but are more clunky and reassuring.

Yeh, it never ceases to amaze me either!

Shame that i have been trawling through that webpage and i couldn’t find the answer.

If i was asking for oil levels or what size nut is on the bottom, then go on, do some e-flaming.

I’ve also been onto Mojo, but forgot to ask this point and didn’t want to phone back.

2 wheel drift is where it’s at. Now that’s an awesome feeling when you do it by accident

    So true.

In my local woods, theres one corner which is always loose and sandy. Turn hard enough and teh rear lets loose, then the front follows.

Two wheel drifts can be more unpredictable though..

ok.. I don’t understand how i can be overtightening it, as the tool is only 80mm long..

I’ll give it a go though. (Wheels are only 2 months old)

I only tighten the bearings when the wheel is on the bike.

    Maybe this will sway you..

SXs are mint. Super stiff. But yeh, i need to whack some locktite on the rear bearing preloader. Need to tighten the hub up every couple of weeks.

Mark Anthony will not have one in stock. EVERY TIME i’ve enquired about something that on the website mentions that it’s in stock, isn’t. They’re rubbish.

heh, my week away has totalled to a grand so far, that’s without travelling to and back from the airport, and any spends i may need whilst over there, and spares!

But a mate managed to do a week o £300 last year, managed to bum onto a group going out there for a lift, then he camped and bummed onto a lift on the way back too.

After all i heard about TA, i’ve booked a week with them on 27aug-03sept. Going on my own, so it’ll be interesting on who i meet!

Just get out on the internets and do some searching, you’ll find there’s lots of good advice wherever you go.

    i get that sometimes.

Had an email the other day stating that my items had been dispatched, but my item arrived the week before.

I don’t lock my bike when it’s in the shed, but this shed is brick, not wood. Currently waiting for delivery of ground anchors and some flexi locks to lock the bike into the floor for when i’m not about.

As for locking the bike up, i never lock my road bike up at work, just leave it in the bike stands outside of reception. (But it’s a secure site with records of who is on site, tag in and out of every room etc, so security is high). When i ride my mtb to work though, that gets locked.

Only time lock my bike up is outside of shops, or when i’m leaving my bike on the back of the car when i’m in a shop or someones house etc.

Or, just go to your newsletter preferences and hit update. Works the same as unsubs and resubbing.

    Frikken LOL…

2 metre drops to flat? Yeh, nice one. (6ft to transition drops you’ll be bottoming the bike out, even on a DH bike)

NO 26lb trail bike will survive that well. a dozen in, and you’ll be wanting a new frame and wheels.

Cycling isn’t a rich mans sport at all.

It’s when you get into it, like with any other sport, that it gets expensive.

But yes, to get the decent kit now, you have to spend the dollar. Cycling isn’t cheap any more!

If i’m riding down a proper single line of traffic (I.e. double parked, only just letting 1 car down inbetween), then i take up the whole road.

Someone tried to push through when i was in a similar position the other day. I stayed in the middle of the road. As soon as they realised i wasn’t moving, they stopped and let me pass.

It’s a case of ‘defensive riding’, Dont hug the left, give yourself lots of space, and don’t let car drivers bully you on the road.

I’m there Friday and Saturday (19th/20th) and will be mainly riding the DH, but if the red is open, then we will be riding that too.

The full DH is open, but we may have to stop to give way to let riders racing to cross the DH track on the sat.

So not too bad tbh, and the working conditions is OK.. 22 days holiday + 10.5 for public hols + flex with posibility of working a 4 day week.

About 7 years ago i had to ride around a big gang of teenagers in the local park.. As soon as i saw them all look at me and hear one of them shout ‘grab his bike’ i stood up and sprinted around them trying to give them a massive birth (I was riding across a football pitch in the park) They managed to get to about 8′ of me, then the ground got smoother and i was able to get away.

Last time someone tried to grab my bike off me (about 3 years back) i ended up flooring them.

    hmm, cool.

Just found a bike shop that i drive past to go to my mates have them in stock, and at £220!

To be honest, you probably won’t feel the difference going from 9mm to 15mm axle sizes, but if you ever go back to 9mm from 15mm, then you’ll notice a massive difference.

As for the rear axle, that’s probably more noticable on a full sus bike than a hardtail. But the rear is an instantly noticable upgrade when you first get into some fast turns.

Elixir CRs are fantastic brakes. (I upgraded from elixir 5s so as to get a bit more adjustment) and they’re great.

It’s just that people are brandwhores and hate everything else than what they own.

I’ve had Avids for the last 3 years and found them better than the hopes i had on the bike previous. But that doesn’t say that they’re any better than any other make, just that i like the feel, power and modulation of elixir CRs.
