    Get a Giro Xar.

Same fit as a Zen, just a better retention system.

Why are people recommending DAc24s? They’re a totally different price bracket! Also, being 1350g, they’re very light, but my set flex a little on the back.

I’d personally say that your first choice, Mavic Ksyrium elites, are fantastic wheels.

    Love mine too…

Took a massive beating over the last 2 years, and i have to say, they’re the best wheels i’ve used on the bike, bulletproof yet relatively light!

Had a week in Les Arcs with Trailaddiction last week..

    Costs were;

    £525 + £50 = weeks guided holiday + transfers.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner was included
    £190 for flights
£150 spends (Airport spends, Coffee, beer, cake, lunch and tea on the day off)

Then £20 for a set of brake pads

Few other bits and bobs, so came to just under the grand.

    Worth it though.

Heh, i’m 25 with a £24k salay and there’s no way i can afford to buy my own place. Hell, after pension payments, student loan deductions and the like, a mortgage payment of £525 is 40pc of my takehome! Renting just seems like throwing my money away.

Property prices are stupid, and i’m sick of having to live with my parents still. But to get anywhere i’m going to have to save for a big deposit these days, which is going to take years.

Correct. Front of the bike is at the back of the drivers seat. The back of the bag is where the wheels/rear end of the bike is.

I’m pretty happy.. Just loaded the bike bag up and chucked it in the back of the car..

    It FITS!

5mm longer and it wouldn’t though!! And yes, the boot closes :)

As a closet roady, i like testing myself on the ups and the downs ;)

Went llandegla the other day and i was up to 4th on the full black circuit. quick-ish up the climbs, and quick-ish on the descents.

    1.8tdci focus here..

    Currently sat at 37mpg.

Got the car when i was commuting 20mi each way, a year ago i got a job which was 3mi each way. Still drove, and the car is still cold by the time i get to work. The car really drinks fuel when it’s cold, and sips it when the engine is up to temp. Managed to get to Aberdeen last year from Chester and the car hit 67mpg for the run.

Sorry, haven’t read the full topic, but this is my thoughts.

If he gets a bonus of approx £960k in shares. He is then sensitised to work harder and point the company in the right direction. With that, two things happen..

His bonus grows (Share price goes up) and the business pays more back to the taxpayer (in taxes etc).

Surely it’s win-win. Win for the chap running a multi billion company, and win for the taxpayer?

Sacked degla off, and rode the Marin trail instead. AWESOME singletrack and amazing views! brilliant ride.. Not that long though, as it was only hour 30 for a full lap :/

    Cheers also for this.

Had arranged to pick a buddy up at 8:45 for a full lap. Now to let him know it’s closed!

Not bothering with reading the bumf above me, but this is my 2c.

Lighter wheels definately transform a bike.

I have a Giant reign X, and had some pro2s on ex729s. Went from them to Mavic Crossmax SX wheels, and lost about 600g. Also went from dual ply minions to single ply folding ardents (saving of approx 1kg)

Makes a MASSIVE difference. All of a sudden the bike accellerates really well, climbs much better, and also much stiffer (Which is suprising)

If you want to spend money, best way to spend it is on wheels. Otherwise, wear lighter clothing.

BTW, whoever is talking about how aero the bike.wheels are, this only comes into play at 20mph+

When i was there, a lap of the red took me 85 mins

http://app.strava.com/rides/2934581 as proof ;) (and that was my first ever time there)

It’s hellishly fun, and it’s not that tiring as there’s a big old descent at the end. Oh, and spooky woods at the top (i think) is hellishly fun. The first climb does however, go on, and on, and on, and gets steep in bits. Just blast up it, it’s fairly straightforward.

Spent an afternoon there playing on the jumps, then i did glentress the next morning, and then a DH afternoon at inners. All on the same bike :D (after fort william was cancelled due to massively strong winds)

I rekon you can get a lap of glentress done, starting at about 9:30am, then go the cafe for lunch and cake, then a lap of inners easily within a day. You’ll even have time to be back at the pub in peebles at 5pm for an all nighter!

I lock the rack to the car, and the bike to the rack. Think i’m only going to take the amount I need for the day, and take them off and put them in the car when not in use.. Bit more of a faff, but just googled, and the straps are £5 each!!!

That’s got to be a photoshop..

    Two reasons..

The SRAM S80s will not take 2 persons weight. It’ll be on or over the weight limit for the wheels.

Secondly, is the front person there to just steer?

Llandegla is a great place for a social ride, and its good for getting beginners riding stuff slightly more technical than they may have encountered on a gentle local loop whilst still being pretty safe, but it’s a very busy place which means don’t go there expecting to be able to ride flat out unhindered…

It was the case of, i was shouting for him to let me by when there was lots of space, but he was ignorant due to earphones that pished me off. I gave a good amount of time, but due to the length of the climb, it’s inevitable that you’re going to catch someone up. And not everyone runs 20/36. (My granny ring which gets me up everything is 26/28)

I got really really pissed off at llandegla today.

Did the last black, but there were so many people pushing the climbs. I got stuck behind someone pushing whilst plugged into a loud mp3 player. I just couldn’t get past.

Sooooooooooo annoying.. The climbs aren’t that hard either!

Yes, go to settings, System, bike stettings, Data Fields, then the screen you’re after, then select the location you want, then ‘Time of Day’.

    Sorted!

Nothing planned, but i may go out on the roady for a bit tomorrow pre-lunch, and then a decent spin on Monday.

I’m desperately in need of mileage for the rapha 500, i’m only 30mi in so far, and 7 days left.. :/ another 280 miles to go over the next week.

Went to the local cyclists café which was serving mince pies and mulled wine.

By the way, don’t just rely on the pin itself.

I snapped the c or e clip (whatever it’s called) and a few weeks later i was shooting down a bit of singletrack, went to slam on the brakes as i was going faster than normal and there was a sharp hairpin coming up.

Pull the brakes.. No brakes. I end up not turning, and letting go of the bike and reaching for a tree as the bike rolled down the bank which was the other side of the corner.

Pin had worked loose and pads had fallen out. Not good. Lesson learned, keep the clip on the end of the pad pin.

Worked fine on my old mini DH bike.

super short cage, and an 11-32 cassette. (with a bit of chain growth)

Just make sure your chain length is spot on.

Had a few minor crashes on the mtb which left me with superficial wounds.

Had one major crash which broke 3 spinal vertebrae, my left hip socket, and a couple of ribs.

Put me into hospital for 2 weeks, but thank goodness i got health insurance as part of my job! Got a mighty fine payout after all of that!
