I flat a lot less with tubs than clinchers.

For non commuter riding I use tubs 95% of the time.

I hope it turns out to be a riding packed year for you. I’m excited by writing my business plan for a bicycle related company. I have a LOT to learn and it’s likely going to take me at least the rest of the year.

Sorry to hear this, I know what it’s like to lost a family member human or furry. Hope you can remember the good times and once you’ve grieved are able to smile when you think about him.

Bass Player here – 456 is my bike.

One thing I want to do is jump a set of doubles on my MTB. I find the bike so unweildy compared to a BMX but I’m sure it’s just me.

That black BFe is teh sex!

I ended up with a 456 for exactly what you describe. From dead flat tech single track to up and downy couple of hour jaunts to pinning it like a nutter it all works pretty well.

Heaps of folk happily tour on cx bikes no?

I’m not so sure. My definition of a cx bike probably differs from most here. I for one cringe at bottle mounts, I want a high BB, short chainstays, low front end (one thing on my CX bike it I can’t get low enoguh at the front).

BB height and chainstay length on a proper CX frame would be a compromise for anything else and very wrong for touring with paniers.

My opinion is that a cyclocross bike is good for cyclocross and not much cop for anything else. A road bike would be much better for your main usage IMHO

Washing up liquid. rub it on and wipe it off. I use it inside my motorbike visor and even when breathing on the lens directly it doesn’t steam up.

I’m sure there are dads with lots of other interests but I doubt they’re particularly good Daddys.

that’s hilarious. you obviously sleep too much.

I am into so much stuff. I’m clearly obsessive about stuff, I’ve been called faddy in the past but none of it’s a fad as it doesn’t go away. I like hifi, musical instruments (bass, guitar, drums, harmonica), Road racing, Cyclocross, MTB, radio control anything, guns, the game of Go, web design, motorcycles (sports and custom), fishing and cars.

Couple all this with being a dad and I have little time left to sleep 🙂

I came off early on in my race today. After the first lap most of the ice was gone on the racing line as it was just above freezing.

I’ve got the non platform XTR on my cross bike. They are awesome.

Oldgit, I’m sure there is more clearance than it looks. That black bike was Justin Spinelli’s and he races in New England (was on Richard Sachs’ team this year).

Severe flooding from the snow melt might have shorted his electricity out.

Maybe he’s pissed of that you are rubbishing him on a forum when he doesn’t seem to have done much wrong. Perhaps he, and this is a long shot, doesn’t spend every waking moment at the computer waiting for an email from you so he can respond in seconds.

    Just a guess.

You got an email what you want is a tracking number right? Was it sent using a service that provides a tracking number? If not perhaps that’s why he’s not sent you one.

I think like everyone else says you need to just sit tight and wait for it to turn up. Posting on here after a week is classless imho.

Well I’m sold, I’ll definitely be booking a coaching session or two for next year.

I wore bib shorts, non padded bib tights with baggies over the top today. The baggies aren’t baggy enough though (Endura Humvee).

For cross I wear short legged skinsuit and lots of embrocation.

Yes they are far better than clinchers. I splurged on tyres this year and the difference in every single aspect of bike handling is unreal.

I was reading ‘Feet in the clouds’ in the bath a while ago and thought I’d like to see if an off road Dualthlon existed. Might have to have a go at some point.

The smaller size is almost always the right one.

that hampsten is rather nice – what’s it like to ride?

Thank you. It rides really really nicely. It’s got 25mm Vitoria tubs on it coupled with a light-ish wheelset. It weighs a little more than my Cannondale but it feels lighter when you are on the move. I surprise myself when I go to change up a gear and I’m already in the 12. It’s a similar position to the cannondale but different geometry, easier to ride fast, easier to ride no hands, decends like it’s on rails and each time I ride it makes me think what a bargain it was.

Modern steel produces a light, stiff comfortable bike.
