Finally got to ride (and wash) mine today. It is great, exactly what I need for what I do.

I was just contemplating the same thing. I want to upgrade my old coil Pikes on my BFe. Could go with xfusion 26″ ones but for more future proofing was thinking a 27.5 one. then again by the time I get round to buying another frame there will probably be another standard.

I used to ride 1×9 with a tight range block, then I went to 1×9 with a wide range cassette, then went to a 3×9 and have just gone 2×10. I really couldn’t get anywhere with 1×9 I was a pretty strong cyclist who raced on road and cross, commuted 150 miles a week on fixed gear etc. Obviously the rear cassettes nowadays are ridiculous and get you most of the way back to a granny ring. When I was building up my new bike I was considering 1×11 but having to fanny about with the rear wheels to make them compatible seemed like a bit too much work/expense for no gain.

What is the little bag of bits that came with it? How does the front mech routing work? Are the two related? 🙂

I didn’t get any tracking info, started to panic, then a truck pulled up outside and it is here 🙂

    Thanks for that.

    anyone got their’s yet?

The only two things I have experience of are hard shelled knee shins, which are a bit heavy and storm trooper. Or Neoprene BMX shin guards which certainly stop pedal damage but make you sweat a lot.

    I’m having sizing panic.

Right now 100% of my riding is in the local woods which luckily is on the side of a hill and has all sorts of jumps, berms etc. and I also take my really crappy BMX to the pump track.

Thinking that a new bike might inspire some trail centre visits and the odd actual bike ride, I went with the extra versatility of a large (I’m 6’1″ and my current bike is a XL 456).

Part of me thinks that for what I do now a medium or even a small would do the trick and be awesome, but be pretty rubbish as an actual bike to ride places. I’m a 1 MTB kind of guy so versatility is important.

    arrgghh

and now I’m eyeing up a pair of xfusion velvet forks to replace my 11 year old Pikes. My Mrs might kill me.

Ended up caving in and buying a complete 2×10 group.

I did the SRT with a slight stumble back. Getting my work chums onto it. Can’t get real low with the pistol squat.

As to enjoying the feeling a bit too much, probably. I also like using gold bond body powder for non bike pursuits, similar medicated coolness. Neither as good as the feeling when I used to race cyclocross though, that burning leg feeling and the smell was very addictive.

My build is a right mish mash of nastiness.

Coil Pike SL U turn (I got them in 2005 IIRC)
Haven bars, seat post and stem (70mm)
SDG Bel Air saddle (again 2005)
    SLX 9 speed cranks
    SLX 10 speed front mech
Hope Hoops (Stans Arch ex with Pro IIs)
Kenda Nevagal tubeless (blue groove on one end)
    Sram x9 shifters
    Sram x9 rear mech
    Hayes 9 brakes!!
    Superstar Nano pedals

I’m hoping that the new area I live in and the new frame will inspire me to ride a bit more and I’ll upgrade the bike bit by bit. Sorely tempted by new brakes and a fork that is slightly lighter than one tonne.

Good to know. I had decided on the way home from work to buy the SLX M677 2×10 Front Mech and see if I die. I’ll stay with the sharks tooth rings too just in case 🙂

I feel an upgrade to 2×10 coming on that case. Wallet burning at the thought.

It sort of melts, rubs in quick and is medicated.

Asos is great, Sudocrem if you really like the thick gloop though.

I really want one to move all the parts from my 456 onto it (apart from seat post).

    AntLockyer

Since moving down here there is a lot of stuff a 10 minute pedal away from my front door that is gnar enough that I’ll never be able to ride it.

I don’t want to be alarmist but the weeks before I got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes I was craving sugar a lot.

I’ve always been terrified of riding my MTB, going up hills or down hills. I’ve never had the balls to jump a set of doubles on any sort of bike and am generally a cycling pussy. I’m 41.

I’ve got tons of bikes that never get ridden, and a few in bits that obviously never get ridden either. I’d happily get rid of the lot but any time I try to sell nothing does and I lose drive.

Rode for the first time in about a year yesterday. Exploring the new area we live in (Hythe, Kent). Found some nice trails, totally rekindled my enthusiasm. I’ll be out there again tomorrow.

I did a log on a log. Used my socks for the wipeage as my 4 squares of paper that has done for every other crap I’ve ever had to clean up didn’t do the trick.

Well that is the third trip into the 2s for me in a week. That one of those I had was last month. Weird how these changes happen. Seeing as when I was ill and not eating last week my BG didn’t move I’d say this is a bolus issue rather than basal.

I just read the majority of it and found myself in agreement with most (maybe)

10.1 UKIP supports pedal cycles as a healthy means of personal transport, but is
concerned at the accident rate rising from 114 deaths in 2003 to 148 (2005), and the fall
in regular cycling according to the Department for Transport, despite so much promotion.
10.2 We believe that there needs to be a better balance of rights and responsibilities for
pedal cyclists, with too much aggressive abuse of red lights, pedestrian crossings and a
lack of basic safety and road courtesy.
10.3 There is also substantial amounts of bicycle theft, as David Cameron can testify to
personally. The British Crime Survey records c.440,000 bikes are stolen every year, but
many thefts go unreported. Halifax Home Insurance estimates a bike is stolen every 65
    seconds in the UK.
10.4 According to CTC, the national cyclists’ association: “The police make almost no
effort to catch bike thieves… What’s more, the few who are caught face derisory
sentences” and this is reflected in a clear-up rate of around 5%28
    .
10.5 UKIP’s proposed new elected police boards could also put greater emphasis on
tackling bicycle theft, particularly in theft hotspots such as London, Reading, Bristol and
    Oxford.
10.7 UKIP believes that basic cycle and safety training should be made mandatory, and
be funded in schools or via local authorities. UKIP supports the campaign work of
    national cycling organisations.
10.8 Cycling on safe cycle routes, lanes, tracks and trails should be actively encouraged,
particularly as a leisure pursuit. UKIP believes off road dedicated lanes are preferable to
a confusing maze of cycle lanes on unsuitable or dangerous roads, which is problematic
for cyclists as well as other road users.

It isn’t party policy though is it? Just the view of an absolute tool.

Letting the tyres down in like asking if you packed it yourself, even if your missus or mum packed for you the answer is still YES

Indeed, my mate thought he was clever and said “no my mum did it” they said they would need to look inside. He thought that was a pain in the arse so then thought it was a smart move to say “would it made a difference if I said I was in the British Army?”

    We were there hours.

    Harry_the_spider that is very cool.

In terms of not doing DAFNE I didn’t do it because I learned to carb count from the book I mentioned.

I have 1u of Novorapid per 12g of carbs. Apart from my breakfast of porridge which although about 24g of carbs I only need 1 unit for. I take a split dose of Levemir 16u at 7:30pm and 12 at 7:30am

I commuted into London from Kent about 15 miles each way. By Thursday is the weather wasn’t great I’d had enough of it. I started finding excuses not to ride, my bike was getting hammered and I had a couple of offs.

apart from that it was awesome 🙂

I suspected I had diabetes 14 years ago and presented myself to the doc with this. They did some test and stuck me on Thyroxin for an under active thyroid which they then took me off 28 days later as it sent me too far over on the lowest dose.

The difference in my life since diagnosis has been huge, all the things I used to think were normal went away, things like weak bladder, thirst changes etc. So it is something I’ve been living with mildly for a long time.

I’ve not done DAFNE although they offered it to me, the reason was she said my level of diabetes education was excellent (I’m a real geek and immersed myself in the subject) and she thought I wouldn’t learn anything that I didn’t already know and practice. The place could be used for someone who doesn’t have that level of education but it was up to me.

Funny, after starting this thread I had a hypo yesterday, 2.6. Lesson learned don’t go upstairs with the wife straight after dinner 🙂

I read a fantastic book called Think like a pancreas. I liked it so much I emailed the author Dr Sneider to tell him.

Right off for a bite of mars bar and a bike ride 🙂
