If you shim behind the bush on it’s insertion, is the wear into the rocker not going to continue as the bush just gets pushed further and further out?

I just cut up some margarine tub washers and used them to fill in the ring that had worn into the rockers. Hopefully next service I’ll peel them out and replace, they have felt fine for about year to date.

Cheers Neil, if it’s a go’er then email me, anthonyrampley at yahoo.com. I’ll probably loose this thread before then!

Will check that out thanks Smurf…

Mainly because it gives more options for moving it around to get the fit right.

That and I’ve spent about an hour respraying the old seatpost and clamp in preparation;-)!

Cheers, I’ll cross reference those. There is only 10 though whereas the National Trail list 20 so maybe some have as feared gone awol[*].[/*]

Seems odd, but a few old fashioned disc brake shims should sort it.

Email me for a £15 gunsmoke Hope one if interested.

Otherwise always found Ritchey WCS’ for sub £30 to be sound.

Scandal chuckable and fun? Aren’t they a racey frameset?

    That Kenesis sounds perfect tbh.

I bet having a car with a radiator like that has been a bonus during this cold snap?

    Looking good!

Guess I’ll be the first to put hands up to say my King lasted 3 months and fell to bits.

XTR cranks and a faced frame, Distributors did didlysquat for warranty. King in USA repaired it foc when I sent it back to them off my own back.

Hope Stainless gets my money now.

Sorry, I wasnt doubting the improved axle versatility, but want to know the reason why the QR end caps no longer shroud the bearings?

    Anthony

Anyone know how this is supposed to be an improvement over the original Pro2 which did have end caps that covered the bearings?

The Birzman I bought was the biggest pile of tat I have ever had the misfortune to be sold by the bike industry.

Not one of the Allen keys was the correct size, all were undersize enough to ruin any bolt they went near.

Crank Bros Multi 17 has been a joy though.

Those Braccianos at sub 1500g for a £300 factory wheelset were what came up top trumps on the last similar road wheel thread.

For the price they do seem rather good.

What are freehub spares like for the Chinese hubs? Tempting at that price as personally I was looking at the same 1300g build but on American Classics, but at £200 more expensive it’s now become a head scratcher!

Since they went ‘Evo’, Pro3 always have been.

I’d be surprised if all 5 need replacing. Freehubs usually outlast wheel bearings 2 or 3 times IME.

Replace them both with one’s that are the correct size or it’ll keep happening. It’s too small, the pivot is in the wrong place, you can see how it’s getting bent/stressed everytime it’s opened.

Design is fine, it’s just too small.

Depends how warm/cold you sleep and what mat you’re sleeping on, but the pd400 is cutting it fine for 4 season UK use.

    I certainly couldn’t cope with -10′ with only 400g of 700fp down.

The pd600 boosted with a down jacket is a better bet. Or better still a pd400 for 3 season and a pd800 for winter use!

I’m a small in their Singletracks but even the waist band on the Large Humvee’s is now snug after their first wash at 30′.

    Find it a bit annoying.

    Pro3 xc3, Pro3 road or Pro3 AM4?

    1) No
    2) If you wish, but the genuine Hope ones are a good compromise of cost/longevity.
    3) Identical.

I always thought that little steel insert in American Classic ally freehubs was a fantastic idea. I’m surprised its not copied more to stop this very problem. Adds no more than 2-3g

In the last couple of years we have taken sausages (spicy bean burgers, eggs, porridge whatever) 20 or so times. Not to eat mid-ride, but to ride to go and eat. In the local woods. Sometimes before dawn.

It’s not always about finding the holy grail trail, but the people and the experience and the laugh.

Most of the time though due to family restraints my rides do have an agenda. Be it route, speed or time, but that’s ok I like that too.

    All riding good.

For long distance use the unramped Stainless steel Surly one is hard to beat. I would be very surprised if it will even need flipping. Completely flat though so can without issue.

3/32 chain is fine, as is anything up to 9sp IME.

Might just be me, but the C145 jersey looks like you’re wearing a basque?

The guy modelling it looks like Jessica Rabbit if you squint.

That does sound odd then Billy. What saddle is it?

    Anthony

    Prevention is better than cure….

Seriously, if you can’t ’tilt’ your saddle enough with the range of a Thomson post then you need to have a little head scratch. If your saddle isn’t comfortable at anything other than a couple of degrees from horizontal then it’s not the seatpost that’s at fault. It’s either the saddle shape, saddle fore/aft on rails, saddle height, bike size, bar reach, clothing and other general bike fit issues.

Granted swapping from Thomson to USE carbon made a huge difference in comfort for me, but from flex rather than poor fit.

    £20 off a £1100 roadbike ain’t that great!

A £70 Castelli jersey for £20 delivered is more appealing to myself 😀 Cheers OP.

    Not holding my breath mind.

4.5lb is pretty hefty for a Alu HT if there are no gubbins like an ebb etc. so tubing is probably quite thick enough.

I’d just araldite them on if it were mine though for less stress. The strength/direction of forces works in its favour too.

    roadie spd

A slightly more roadie style ‘trail’ spd pedal.

Road SPD-SL is want you want though, it’s a road bike afterall.

The regular is indeed a lot more comfortable for not that much a bigger packsize or weight over the small 3/4. Again, I have used mine well into – figures to include sleeping on snow and never found it cold with either a 600 or 800 weight down bag.

If you’re not too fussed about r value, there is the peak elite ac to consider too, altho too narrow for my liking.

Slightly OT, but why are a lot of factory wheels so expensive but not ‘that’ light? Is it stiffness?

At 65kg in kit and for recreational road riding, anything better than Alpha/American Classics at sub 1300g for £480 from JRA?

Reading threads like these makes me disgusted to call myself a mtb’er.

I would have greeted them, passed pleasantries and went on enjoying my ride.

Just buy the size big enough to go all the way round and simply bend it to shape to suit the profile. I’d wrap a bit of electrical tape around the frame first and make sure you use the rubber grommets to protect the frame.

Should get it tight enough to support a mudguard, I wouldn’t go putting a pannier rack on mind.

SS for screw-on freewheel or a normal splined sprocket?

If the latter then what al said.

Sorry for my hesitance, realised I’m changing my bars on Tues so would prefer to ensure I’m not going to be needing them.

Very much I suspect I don’t, so if you still struggle then drop me an email and ill pop them in post.

    Anthony.
