    Can I borrow him?

I need a model for a keyring I’m planning to make.

Interesting on the z2 stuff.  I did change my turbo approach a year or so ago, following some advice from STW – and started going for higher peaks on the intervals but easing off during the recoveries. Previously I was more focussed on an overall average speed, without  much difference between the intervals and recoveries.

Might need to go back to that approach – but its going to take some determination.

Booked via rentalcars.com and the actual rental company was Record Go.

All went fine and I think it was about £150 for 3 or 4 days.

Some of this may be of help (IANAPFSE):

Manual for that series of forks

    https://manualzz.com/doc/en/1362733/dt-swiss-forks-ex-instruction-manual

I think those forks will be 32mm stanchions – I think all the forks with 32mm stanchions use the same seals – but ask tftuned if you’re not sure

    https://www.tftuned.com/dt-swiss-fork-seal-kits/p3110

Video showing how to disassemble/reassemble – I think its actually an exm fork, but might be applicable to yours

Just back from a 2.5 hr ride. Started with a bit of warm up/climb. Then 20 mins on some skills – a bit of fear, but made some progress. A couple of miles riding, followed by working on more skills. A few more miles riding through some great cloudscapes. Then into a a lungbuster of a climb. Got a good view of a couple of kestrels. Then home via a fast little descent for a bit of adrenaline.

There can’t be many other sports that can give you so many different experiences – fear, challenge, accomplishment and excitement, and keep you fit and get you out into nature, all at the same time.

Not only that, but cleared my head after a stressful couple of days at work.

    I love mountain biking.

Different people have different reasons for going ss.

I ride ss a lot, but only when the weather is crap, because it’s less hassle and cheaper to maintain. Not exactly maintenance-free but usually its fine to dump a mud covered ss in the shed one week and then pull it out the next week and ride.

Plus there is a certain masochistic pleasure (very much type 2 pleasure) in plugging through 25 miles of chiltern mud in sub zero temperatures.

I wouldn’t be without an ss in the uk, but if i was lucky enough to live somewhere with dusty trails all year round, the ss would never be ridden.

Best ss set-up I’ve had is on the kona unit. The dropouts are easy to adjust but very solid and never slip, as the frame has built in tugnuts.

And of course the best thing about riding ss is the constant stream of chicks throwing themselves at your feet.

STW – Very disapponted with the lack of puns so far.

Not me personally, but I know someone with vertigo who did the epley thing and it really helped. Not pleasant, but worth it.

Are you sure some of the parts need replacing?  A service/lube can make a big difference.  Brand x are the same as the PNW posts and there are some good videos on their website.

That is way nicer than mine ever looked.

Glad to see its as SS should be – rigid.

    Please keep it that way.

    Quick follow up.

Mine has arrived already – so less than 24 hrs (on standard delivery). And its not even OEM. Proper boxed stuff.

The world would be a much poorer place without SJS.

Better to have the chance to get something slowly than for it to be impossible to source.

You could probably pick up an old school chainset (104 bcd) very cheap, and then get one of these bargains

    https://olsenbikes.co.uk/products/olsen-singlespeed-chainring-32t

Steel chainrings are what you need for singlespeed. Aluminium wears out very quickly.

Note that these are for 1/8 chains rather than 3/32 but kmc 1/8 chains are only about £10 and are much tougher.

    The solution is rigid singlespeed.

    Ride.

    Put bike in shed.

    Ride.

    Put bike in shed.

    Ride

    Etc etc

I think the question to ask is how many people have tried tubeless and gone back to tubes.

Sure some have, but for most people tubeless is way better.

OP – I’ve just had to retire my 1*1 after nearly 10 years of abuse and neglect, having been kept running with the cheapest bits possible.

The one thing I splashed out on was a surly tugnut – which is now redundant.  It’s maybe a little past its best, but if you’re interested drop me a PM and maybe we can do a deal (can’t believe they’re >£30 new!).

As far as the rest of the build is concerned, don’t worry about getting specific SS stuff. Standard wheels with an HG freehub, a good sprocket with a wide base (gusset double six have served me very well) and some spacers and you’re good to go.  Get a strong chain (doesn’t need to be expensive) like the KMC K1.

And rigid forks. Always rigid for SS.

There’s not much in that stretch that’s very technical, but it’s hard work. Mainly up and down, and most of the trails are rocky and rooty.

    anono

Thats a great place to start from – head south east to St Thomas and you’re straight on to the trails.

There are better hire places on menorca.

    I used this bunch

    https://www.totvelo.com/

who have a fairly decent selection and will deliver the bike for a fee. I had a trek Fuel EX, 12x nx, dropper post – was in fairly good condition but would have benefitted from a better fork than the recon it had.

If you are in son bou, you can ride south/east towards cal en porter. First bit is pretty rocky and technical (around cala lucalari)  then eases off a bit.

If you head north/West you have to go past St Thomas before the real biking starts.  Most of the St Thomas bit is fine, but the last bit is on the beach so unless you have a fat bike you’ll be pushing.

The cami is generally really well signposted.

Once you get on the trails the riding is great – despite all the reviews saying its tougher than you expect, I assumed it would be pretty tame, but it’s not. Lots of short sharp rooty and rocky ups and downs. Hard work but great fun.

Stanstead on Wednesday (arrived 6am for an 8am flight) was very busy, but efficient.  Had to queue about 15/20 mins for security, but all very smooth.

Worst queues were for Pret a manger.  Cafe Nero much quicker (and better coffee anyway).

Bar shouts We don’t serve rope! Are you rope?

So before I forget this, when posting from Flickr:

    Use the desktop site

click the share button (curved arrow)

    choose BBCode

choose size of image (large 728 x1048 seems ok)

    copy the address

post only the part of the address that starts https and ends jpg into the image link box

    Relax

Recently used a can shim on my winter bike.

I had to keep tightening the cranks regularly, every half hour or so for the first couple of rides, then before each ride.  Now just checking ocassionally.

Square taper has its issues,  but holds up to the winter slop so much better than external BBs.
