3 light bulbs in one room, 3 switches in another room, you don’t know which switch operates which light bulb. You can’t see into the lightbulb room from where the switches are. How do you figure out which switch operates which bulb? You’re not allowed to keep flicking switches and running back and forth to see!

Does that make sense? I’m a bit tired and not sure, I know what the answer is though!

Hi cg, shame cos it would be great if you came too. Just don’t do your Saturday thing! Or I’ll see if I can be free Sunday, but not 100% sure.
Aleigh, cool, I like plans for bike rides!

Hey Aleigh, my mended shock is due back today – – hurray!!!! so I was going to drop you a line anyway. You’re more than welcome to come down here for a pootle that weekend – Sat best for me. Should be able to get a few people to come out, not 50+ though! The terrain is pleasant rather than exhilarating, so if you get more exciting offers, just take your pick. Mail me if you want.

Me too, debit card. A few small amounts, then several large ones to the tune of about £3k which included overdraft. It seems pretty common, I know quite a few people who’ve had this happen. Halifax were useless, it took about 3 months for me to get the money back, but I did in the end which is the main thing I guess. At times the bank made me feel as though I was under suspicion, which is the last thing you want. It’s horrible.

Abarthchris, glad you’re OK. Can I recommend Neal’s Yard Rosehip Seed Oil to reduce the scarring? I landed on my face while doing the Skyline a couple of years ago and ended up with about 14 stitches round my mouth. You can hardly see the scars now, the oil is really good. That’s if you’re a bit vain like me!

Well I’ve decided not to go!

No Aleigh, you should go! Don’t live your life through the dubious experiences of this miserable lot! I bet half of them haven’t been anyway. Go and have fun, you know it can’t be as bad as they’ve made out.

It’s not the fount of all knowledge on here as I was led to believe, it’s the fount of all people who think they have all knowledge…..

I appreciate that STW are thinking about the needs of women, but I also think that it’s not necessary to have a separate forum. Didn’t someone say recently as well that the shecycles forum had tumble weed rolling around it (before it closed!)

I agree with other posters that it’s the bike related knowledge (sometimes!) that is handy on here and that can come from either sex. Also, is being a member of and posting on a forum a bit of a male dominated past-time anyway? That might explain the Facebook friends/forum posts discrepancy. I’m not sure about that – I only post on two and the other non bike one is male dominated as well, so maybe my perception is skewed.

Having said that, it was nice to read that thread recently and discover that there are quite a lot of women on here.

    You lot are funny.
Thanks for the input, though I’ve realised I’m none the wiser.

I’ve learnt that Fox have this reputation for getting “stuck down” which is part of what happened to mine, though not until I’d used it for 3 years. That’s why I was thinking giving an RS a try.

My FSR is an ’06 and takes a 165 x 38 shock… is that an odd length? The monarch quotes 165 x 28, but I presumed a typo.

Does nobody really not know anything about these? My bike buddy says this place is the fount of all knowledge!
How about recommendations for a shock for Spesh fsr xc then? £150 budget. Please and thank you.

I’ve got a Crockpot too, and they really are ace. It always feels like someone else has made dinner for me. Minimal effort for really good results. I also make 7 hour ginger cake in mine which is lovely. Mine doesn’t have a timer, but I use a separate one sometimes.

Another vote for the Strika here, my favourite because I could be a more effective tomboy with it than my old Raleigh girls bike. I made cardboard thingies that dragged on the spokes as the wheels turned and made a cool noise…

Thanks aracer, for the compliment and for removing link. Would just rather I was in control of people seeing my photos, finding out more about me etc.

Rudeboy thanks for the tip, I like it!

well thanks for that Tom db

Rudeboy, it’s a white and see through one. It’s 2nd hand so I guess it’s an older one.

Pook I don’t have a =v?0, or a .jpg. I’m looking at the url in the browser bar after having clicked on a photo on my flickr pages.

linking to a photo on flickr didn’t work….. how do I do that? Can usually post photos OK.

Those trees in the middle look like a huge two legged dinosaur, with crocodile jaws and big claws on its feet. Maybe I shouldn’t post that though.

OK, thanks a lot tinsy. I think there’s been an oil leak, if the non-GT85 smell on the shock boot is anything to go by. It’s never been serviced, so I think I need to face up to the £90. Times like these I wish I’d bought a hard-tail!

    Thanks for your input all.

Tinsy, when your shock did the same thing, was the setting adjustor also rendered useless like mine is? If so, did taking it apart and cleaning / lubing fix that as well?

OK….. so by trails do you mean places like Afan? I started going xc/offroad before I’d had any b/fs into MTB, but only started going to places like Afan since going out with guys who were into biking too. I think that the trail centres are the more blokey side of a rather blokey sport. Dunno if that helps your great conundrum……

That’s a funny thing to be interested in, allyharp. Unless of course you’re the stalking lecher from kit’s post…..

Yes, SFB, and you must also wear a stripey shirt, cowboy hat and play the banjo.

[/quote]Neeps (yellow turnips) are mashed sweede. According to the BBC website anyhow

I did Burns supper on Friday for friends one of whom is Scottish. This question provoked a heated opinion from my usually mild mannered friend….. I did mashed swede with potato, but I think this is wrong. What English call swede is not what Scottish call swede it seems and I’m still a bit confused. The “swede” should have been orange, mine was pale yellow. I nearly did carrots instead and rather wish in hindsight that I had done.

Am currently eating leftover haggis casserole.

In 2007 I was on £26k p/a, largest annual salary for me to date. It was also the most prolonged period of unhappiness in my life so far, didn’t think it was possible to be so miserable at work; 0/10.

Now I’m self employed and have just about enough money to cover bills, but absolutely none spare. (Don’t know what that is out of 10…… it could be 0 or 10!) If it’s not vital I don’t buy it, but I’m really pretty happy at the moment 9/10

Frenchie, no, I don’t know that – sounds nice. I don’t understand your co-ords though. Will ask my bike buddy to get his GPS on the case and check it out in Spring. One of my favourite places in Grovelly is to come out of the wood on the West side, round Stourton Hatch, and sit on the side of the hill. You get an amazing view of the valley – it’s beautiful. Biking and Wiltshire are such a good combination.
