Jenny Twigg and Her Daughter Tibb.  Two weathered natural stone pillars on Fountains Earth Moor to the east of Lofthouse.  Not difficult riding on the tracks across the moor but it’s always worth going somewhere with a funny name.

Despite what the link says, it’s in the Dales not the North York Moors.

I used to like my Singletrack ones with an SPD cleat pattern on the bottom.  Any more of those in the pipeline?

@convert I thought I was OK on the sewing machine too so I made a half frame bag and thought you might be able to benefit from my experience (mistakes):

    1. The two sides need to match exactly. It sounds obvious but I found it tricky to achieve especially when sewing the strip that divides the two sides and going around the corners.  I ended up with a twist in the bag which didn’t really work and I had to unpick one seam and re-sew it, hampered by the fact I hadn’t left much seam allowance.  It is why the zip doesn’t run parallel to the top tube as was intended.
    2. I didn’t use any stiffening on the side panels so I had to add some internal fabric strips, sewn to each side of the bag to stop it bulging and rubbing my thighs.  This has created three compartments in the inside that I hadn’t envisaged.  It would have been much easier if I had planned this and sewn them in where I wanted them instead of where I could access the bag’s internals with the sewing machine.
    3. I used camouflage material as I thought it might hide my mistakes better than a plain colour.IMG_0010

Yes we did @matt_outandabout .  My wife still wears her’s.  Fleece one side, Pertex the other. The traditional logo is on the fleece side.

That’s the one. ‘Should’ be ok by May but the way things have been going weather wise, who knows?

If you are heading East and want to cut a bit of the SDW then this is for you.  Follow the Shipwrights’ to Buriton. Turn left (north east) out of Buriton for a kilometer and then, by a small green with a bus stop on it, right on to Pitcroft Lane and then immediately right again onto a byway.  It’s marked as Milky Way on the 1:25k OS maps.  At the top is the SDW.  It’s a tough climb but as it’s your first of the day it adds a challenge.

Alpinetrek own brand Stoic. Bargain price in small.  My medium fits like a normal medium.  Not the slinkiest race fit but I can overlook that at the price. Plus an extra five pounds off (pays for the postage) if you sign up for e mails (and then unsubscribe).

I will provide a positive perspective.  My reading of the release is that the meetings are aimed at gaining intelligence to design a questionnaire that all riders can contribute to.  That sounds like a good start to me.

Good luck Dave. With so many differing opinions about so many different styles of mountain biking and so many land owners you have a big challenge on your hands but I am pleased someone is prepared to take it on..

You have removed two of the three variables (pads and rotors) so, unfortunately, it is probably the calliper leaking.  When you remove the pads is there a ring of oil on the back of the pad?

    The Koppenberg.

All of 65 meters of climbing but it’s tough, it’a a road, albeit a cobbled road, and it’s most definitely iconic.

I took mine to the tip about a month ago after an extended period of saying ‘it’s too nice to throw away but it’s too outdated to be of any use’.

It was joined by about 300 USB charging cables that were in the ‘that’ll be handy’ box.

Exposure Trace. And Exposure do a bracket for Go Pro mounting or you can buy a 3D printed one following a bit of Googling.

When Squeeze were Pulling Muscles (From the Shell) they said that:

    Behind the chalet
    My holiday’s complete
And I feel like William Tell
Maid Marian on her tiptoed feet

Did William Tell really travel all the way from Switzerland to a chalet in Center Parks Sherwood Forest to meet up with Marian?

Great. As a Singletrack subscriber and Cycling UK member I am all in favour of the link up. Well done folks.

It’s good advice, irrespective of whether you are in a BC sanctioned event or cycling at any time. My experience is stopping the (potentially) injured rider from continuing and getting them to recognise their possible, non-visible injury is difficult. We all like to dust ourselves down, say ‘I’m fine’ and carry on.

Take heart also from this quote in Chipps’ latest article about moving to France:

‘We seemed to have cemented our reputations as village ‘doers’ – something that helps integration anywhere, be it in France or Folkestone. Regardless of country or region, there are always a few community doers. You see the same people manning the sign-on table at the local bike race, or encouraging the Hallowe’en displays for the children. The more you lean into making a bit of effort, the more you get out of it’

Great. All sports need grass roots volunteers to survive, let alone thrive.

Your wife should be prepared for it to take up more time than you think and for some people, who often are the ones who wouldn’t take on any form of responsibility themselves, to moan about trivia.  Always remember that they (the noisy ones) are the minority and that far more people will be happy that your wife is prepared to contribute to the community.

    I wish her luck.

I have the same – the Garmin maps that were pre-loaded and an open street map version. I leave all of them enabled and it just works although, to be honest, there doesn’t appear to be much difference between the Garmin Maps and the Open Street Map version, certainly here in the UK.

Probably the best thing is to experiment with turning the Garmin base maps off and riding locally to see if you get any differences. No need to enable anything different to the factory set up.

I previously had a Garmin 810 with Ordnance Survey 1;50k on it and I miss that.

My view is that a better co-ordinated national promotion of all non-competitive cycling is where the most impact will be felt. British Cycling has proved itself inadequate at doing this and Cycling UK suffers an image problem (and lack of funding) to really make the difference that it wants. Asking the manufacturers is laudable but they will only join if there is a serious strategy that they can see the benefit of. Once we (co-ordinated cyclists) have made a case and have achieved a good understanding of the benefits and enjoyment that cycling brings amongst the majority of non-cyclists (including central-Government departments who filter it down to local government), the appreciation of the various ‘sub-sections’ of cycling will improve.

Boring, I know, but I think this is the only way to meet Hannah’s wish.

Inter-nicene fighting between those who consider themselves the real mountain bikers doesn’t help and neither does the demonisation of other countryside access groups.

    Swanage to Fraserborough, I suppose
No need to move the compass rose.
If either side this line is used
To add or take I’ll remain confused.

Haha. Some mountain bikers, whose financial situations you don’t really know, say anything from ‘pay the mortgage off now’ to ‘remortgage for as long as possible’.

I think some professional financial advice might be a good move.

The issue might be caused by dragging the file into Courses. If you drag a GPX into Garmin/New Files, when you unplug from the desktop and re-start the unit it will automatically convert it into a course.

I have an 810. Garmin Express tells me it is up to date with version 6.3. I use it with a Garmin OS 1:50k SD card or a 3rd party SD card with some Open Street Map mapping. I have just checked and both work fine when swiping to the maps. It doesn’t help identify the cause of your problem but hopefully it rules out some variables.

There is a question here as to whether easily accessible TV coverage drives public interest or vice versa. Given the predicted audiences for tonight’s women’s football game on prime time BBC1, I would say the former.

Decathlon have their X100 10ft board for the same price and in stock locally. Granted, I would have to buy a paddle and pump at Decathlon but before I decide whether to join an early queue at Lidl can anyone tell me (a SUP novice) if there is a performance difference between the Mistral board and the Decathlon one?

Socks. If there was anything I was going forget it was my socks.

At one point I thought it might be worth painting my ankles black as a solution.
