Bearing size is the difference between octalink/isis bottom brackets.
Thats why an octalink bottom bracket was more resilient.

Bottom Brackets should be exempt from warranty claims. They are subject to so many variables which affect lifespan.

This facing lark does seem a little odd..
a rigid bearing cup which surely can't get affected by a tiny bit of paint build up..
provided the cup is fitted to the correct torque.. the thread is cut into the frame straight the imperfections on the face should have little influence on bearing performance or life..

Considering hollowtech 2 deore can be bought for just shy of fifty smackers in a few places why not just have a go.
Worst that can happen is you don't like it, sell, and buy octalink again.

What you may love is the fact it all fits really easily and comes apart with very little effort for maintenance/frame change.

I hit a chav kid once, and it wrote off a 40 quid rim.
Was not impressed, out of pocket and bruised. Stupid people. So yes expect the unexpected.

The motorcyclists attitude according to my dad is to treat every obstacle like a bin that has blown into your path.. slow avoid.. and ride away to live and swear another day

    Also, red things. They're faster.

i originally paid 90 for the frame.
The mate i got it off paid over twice that and barely rode it before i bought it. :) brilliant
I ride to work on it, and go on the odd ride after work on it as well.

put a little cut in it then it will act as a split race saving you lots of swearing and dented knuckles

the difficult techy bits are all part of the fun..
hustling a fully rigid bike with one gear is rewarding..

octalink is brilliant… pity they did'nt license it out cheaply enough to other manufacturers.

suppose you could blast some waxoyl inside the tubes… but really i'd sooner leave it open to the elements.
    Ride the bugger.. bin it/whatever.
Unless its made of some rare unobtanium alloy i paid 10000 for i'd treat it more like a disposable item.

Hope recently replaced my mates xc shell.. he cracked the one they sent as a replacement a year ago.

    He commutes on his.

Can't fault them on aftersales care.

the fury feels more precarious when just riding along.

I'm gonna try a couple of things in isolation..
going to reduce my tyre pressures by 5/10 psi and then try suspension settings.

We stayed at Malthrone in Mabie forest. Cracking few days, with a sketchy as hell decent in the transit to get home on wednesday morning. (epic snow)

I'm already wondering whether i've gone the wrong way setup wise..
717 to 321, and heavier tyres than my previous bike..

I'm gonna take the pointers on board and have a play in the woods tomorrow.

The Slough Ds were called ID I think, simplified hydraulic system, so no power steering.

They are much rarer these days, and quite sought after.

I get the feeling a large proportion are mouthy commuters/weekend warriors.
I'd put myself into both categories :)

When it comes to anything challenging off road i am fairly inept but i have a go and a grin is on my face so who gives a damn.

I've just come back from 4 days with the lads staying in Mabie forest for a riding getaway.
I've never eaten so much rubbish for a sustained period for ages, but, i've actually burned off some flab..
Riding everyday took care of the rediculous calorie intake.

Use the pro2 trials.. steel body and builds a strongererererer wheel plus sounds class.
i bought a whole wheelset for 120 second hand with pro2 trials hub..
The rims that came with the hubs are worth 50rrp alone.
    Ebay folly will occur soon.
