    180/160 tech x2s.

No frills, black hoses, and standard non pimp solid rotors.
    They just work.

take it out on your local offroad route, then photograph it next to a copy of a Telegraph or something with a headline about scandal on it.

News just in… the world is full of asshats.

Recent Grisedale camp site experience suggests the solution is midnight owning with bombers.

i’d ring up and ask for a set of the right forks at the price you originally paid.
    Often pays to ring up.

I blagged some rockshox forks for 100 quid less than advertised in that very manner.

    Paul Kimmage.

In the Paul Kimmage book he often speaks of the “vitamins” riders took.

The tour is wondeful to watch, but, there is always a loophole or devious way of obtaining advantage.

The new model Berlingo with the xtr spec would give you what you require.
It’s a pug 307 estate/picasso underneath i.e. it has decent suspension and brakes and handles better than older Berlingo models.
It’s not intended for pulling babes at the traffic lights, it’s a car and it does a job.

The 1.6hdi is a great mile eater and usually gives good all round economy.
Critically you can get three proper adults in the back if you really want to. The afforemention xtr model has removeable individual rear seats like a scenic, and would allow more flexibility.

About four weeks ago i would have strictly said stick with shimano.

I’ve got a set of Tech X2’s and i’ve just done a week of red/black stuff in scotland. The tech lever is the bit i’m most impressed with, they just feel so nice in use.

If your being sensible and are not too fussed about the ‘bling’ thing then go with shimano.

New style berlingo has them oem..
and they seem to be looking great on all four corners coming up 23000 miles.

had them on a few cars.

    As for improved fuel consumption.
    Check your pressures more often.

i had to sit on my hands as one of the lads who assaulted my younger brother walked past with his girlfriend.

If i had my way i’d own him with bombers.

Sadly it does’nt work like that.

Concensus in our riding group seems to be a sweet spot of 130/140 depending on axle to crown of the fork.

Fork offset and crown to axle play a role. not just the travel.

I’m gonna head out later.. but not until after lunch.
No doubt it’ll just end up being a thinly disguised trip to the pub.

Work have a lockup with a feeble padlock, and i’m the only one who locks a bike inside the lockup.
The rest seem to not care or are blissfully unaware of how easy the bikes would dissappear.

One of these days we’ll have a contractor leave the gate open and someone will be off with 10 bikes.

Bike shops tend to leave me massively underwhelmed..
so i’d rather get it wrong the first time and learn by mistake then be able to fix it than risk someone leaving me with a dangerous bike.

CRC seem back to reliable form.
Time travel style delivery.. i.e. it says dispatched in my email inbox just as the postman rings the bell.

I’ve ordered several items getting bikes ready for a trip away and everything has arrived prompt and correct.

Cutting a steerer too short in the quest for aesthetic purity on the front end of an xc bike has to be my finest hour..

cue a set of forks which only fit the front of a gt zaskar if you run it with a top part of the headset missing.
    Whoops!

Typically i run shimano deore as they are cheap and run for an acceptable length of time.

The one i run on my do everything hardtail… i.e. commutes/weekend xc rides.. that has lasted about 8 months before wobbling. Typically that bike sees 100 miles a week.

I found it to be a jack of all trades and a master of none in my hands and maybe thats more of a comment on my riding style than the bike, but, i just did’nt got on with it.
Great bike for just wizzing around the local woods.

I ran it with home bodged forks that ran at 120mm.

I have like the above poster.. the coil version. Got them on the front of my 5inch coil shocked single pivot. Match the backend nicely.

I’ve been blasting around locally on them for a couple of months.
They’re a whole lotta fork for the money, big pikes basically!
