Loved it, it was the best thing on TV at the time.

Thanks, just tried planning a route with Strava, it worked OK, but it would have been nice to have an OS map overlay. I would use it again in an emergency. unfortunately Bikehike is still not working.

I was really struggling with the effects of drinking (only small amounts) & was considering giving it up completely. Anyway it turns out that I had a very under active thyroid. Now that has been sorted & I am back to normal. lots of other symptoms (which I didn’t connect) have gone away as well. I thought I was just getting old (which I am) & they were part of it.

No regrets at all. We did it last year & it has created a fantastic space for us, however we do have a utility room for the washing machine & tumble drier & also the sitting room is a separate room, but it doesn’t get used very much. We spend most of the time in the open plan room. The dishwasher is there & that really isn’t an issue, we sit a meter away from it & it is not very noisy at all. No real problems with cooking smells. We have wood floors but don’t find at all noisy. Would do it again without any doubt.

    Sherwood AX-4050r Amp
Mission 700 (tried some Mordant Short 20i but they didn’t suit the amp so well)
    Chromecast audio.

I love the sound I get from this setup.

I friend of mine who was a steel fabricator used an evolution saw for cutting steel & at the time was very pleased with it.

“I went and had a conversation with Badger5 today, they reckon cos the car is warming up very quick but the temps aren’t showing correctly, it’s not the thermostat but a faulty temp sensor on the side of the block, and therefore a much cheaper fix. Fingers crossed!” A common fault, I had to change mine. Its very easy to do, definitely use OEM for this (I tried a cheap one & it was no good). You can check using the Climate control https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCAPW_wOqfk . It is a popular mod to upgrade the brakes calipers, but I was surprised how well good pads have worked.

Good choice. I am sure you will enjoy it, we have with ours. Ours has to live outside, & if you do get a cover for it I can recommend this https://cabrioshield.com/uk/audi-tt-2000-2006-premium.html . I did get a cheaper one but it fell apart after 6 months so was a false economy. Best to use OEM thermostat apparently. My brakes weren’t good but new pads have made a big difference. TT Forum has some very knowledgeable folks on & is good for searching for issues.

“my mate has assured me that with the rear seats down and both wheels out, he can get his 29er full sus in the back of his TT (just!)” I can confirm this is true in a Mk1 as well.

“if it’s not got ground clearance, larger volume non low profile tyres” Don’t use a TT then!

I have a TT 225 Roadster & can recommend it for a road trip. There is enough space for luggage, lots of cubby holes for your bits & pieces & space behind the seats depending on how tall you are. We did a road trip down to the Loire valley & back in a week this summer & the car was really comfortable, we always emerged fresh & ache free. The car ran perfectly & I think we got about 38mpg keeping up with the traffic & speed limits. You get heated seats & an good heater, I have had the top down in 2°C! I did need a warm coat and woolly hat though.

If you do decide on a TT this is the advice from Hoggy on the TT Forum.

    Service history is very important.
Cambelt/water pump 75K miles or 5 years which ever comes first.
Dash instruments (dashpod) read correctly & coolant temp reaches 90 within a couple of miles & stays there.

3.2 V6 no turbo or cambelt to worry about, so should be more reliable & a nicer exhaust note.
V6 Chain wear can be checked using VagCom, very expensive to replace.
DSG may be weak link, unless you can find a manual. Expensive to repair, but probably no more expensive than a manuals clutch.
Check no delay when pulling away & no juddering when reversing slowly while turning up an incline or into a tight parking space.

Don’t rush into it. A good TT is a wonderful car, a bad un can be a money pit.
Plenty of good uns out there, but probably more bad uns, so as I said don’t rush into it.
A bad TT, could be the most expensive car you’ve ever bought.

Roadsters, check roof operation thorougly & carpets for damp, especially in the rear. Roof drains block easily & damp can cause lot of future probs in rest of car.
    Hoggy.

Hi benp1, I live locally, there are a few bridleways around, I will try & cobble a route or 2 for you. That route is ok but its very overgrown in one place & the brambles will cut you to pieces!

“Just the previous page of xyz niggles, all simple fixes at £100-£150 a pop would soon add up to a scary number blowing the op’s budget and marriage 🙂” Your are right, that is why it is important to look for a good one where the “little” issues have been seen to.

“We should keep this thread going for TT Owners 👍

Saves going on the TT Forum..”
It would cut my forum browsing time in half 👍!

Bikebouy, just noticed this (If, I mean If, the wipers are slow the motors knackered and is a proper pig to get at, let’s hope they’re fine (mine are BTW) I had slow wipers on mine, the motor came out quite easily & was just a bad earth connection within the motor, which comes apart easily.

Agree an easy fix, but it’s just something to be aware of as it could have damaged the electronics. I just reread the OP, (And then I see an Audi TT Quattro, FASH, 100K on the clock. All the major services done etc. Would blow the budget in it’s entirety. I suspect it’d be a lot of fun but I also think I’d always be a short distance away from a hefty bill…) depending on the model (3.2 can have stretched chains (can be checked with vagcom) & DSG models the mechatronic unit) I think as long as they are looked after there are few items that would give really big bills. The 1.8 engines & manual gearboxes are generally very reliable. It’s often the turbo, PCV & vacuum hoses that cause a lot of issues as they get old & tired, but they don’t often stop you from getting home.
I have had mine 18 months & had to replace the thermostat (fiddley) & temp sensor (easy), 1 hose to the N75 valve (easy) & a vacuum hose (easy), these are all known issues. Its, needed a new battery & rear shocks & springs (fiddley), but they are consumable items as far as I was concerned. I have treated the roof pretty much as bikebouy has.

Oh, and there is a very knowledgeable forum for advice etc. In the 18 months I have been on the forum there has only been 1 mention of the manual gearbox selector fork snapping (and that was historic), so I think they are pretty infrequent problems (TTForum).

I have a Mk1 TT roadster 1.8T 225. It great to drive, it feels very solid for a 16y old car. They have known problems, but so does any other car. It’s important to buy with some care as a bad one can cost you some money in the long run. Service history is important & a car with the regular problems fixed should offer the best value for money. The body work doesn’t generally rust much. If you are buying a roadster check for any damp on the shelf behind the seats which indicates the drain tubes are blocked. This can damage some of the electronics for the roof & central locking. For me they look great as well, but they are not everyone’s cup of tea.

I have a II sipp & have not been changed 1% on the total value. The only change has been the flat fee £80+vat. Just read all through the rates & charges & it makes no mention of a 1% value charge. I don’t have funds though, only trusts & shares.

The Cinque Terra train line runs along the coast & connects the villages/towns. It runs regularly & you are going to use it at some point, so if you can do the whole journey on it it may be easier. Personally I wouldn’t walk between the villages, they are not far apart but it would reduce the amount of time you would have to look around each village/town. Well worth a visit though. I wouldn’t bother with Florence in the tourist season, its just too busy. Pisa for a day out (we made the mistake of using it as a base for 5 days). I think we enjoyed Lucca most of the cities/towns we visited.

Mine has been fautless over the nearly 3 years I have owned it. I think its a great engine, currently getting about 41mpg but that included quite a few short journeys, normally about 44 mpg.

I was taken for a spin in an 5lt F type roadster by our AirBNB host when holidaying in France. He was very well known in the town he lived in and has the only example of the one he has in all of France, but that did not stop him taking me me on a trip through the town & out onto a dual carriageway & he was flat out the whole way. I can safely say I have never been round a bend/s so quick or been within 50mph of the speed he was going on the dual carriageway. An unexpected trip that finished off the holiday well. I do not condone such behaviour though! Very nice car.

Moto G5plus, slightly better alround than the G5, £200 from curries when I bought it. It works very well for me. There is a G5plus S out soon that has a better camera (I think).
