We have a Tado system , smart thermostat & 6 smart rad valves. We have found it to be excellent, an easy to use app. There were comprehensive instructions to install the smart thermostat & disable the wired one. We can heat rooms exactly how we like, the house is more comfortable & gas use is down.

We have Samuel Groves Triply pans and they work very well on induction. They heat up way faster than gas.

I learnt to play many years ago & did have a few books but cannot remember the names of them. I would suggest a book on Acol bidding (I assume she would be using that to bid) & a separate book on playing hands. I did have a book with lots of played hands in & I did find that useful at the time.

As an aside, my daughter has just started to learn to play & is really enjoying it.

“I’ve got a lovely Jobe paddleboard that I noticed had air escaping from a seam in a couple of places the other week.

Jobe have been helpful and communicative, but to carry out my warranty and send me a new board, they want me to cut this one in two, sending them a picture.

I can’t bring myself to do it! 😭”

With the pressures in a SUP the consequences of a sudden failure could be serious, I would have thought. Its not worth the risk of a repair and continued use.

I have a TT & would be happy to recommend, in usual STW tradition. You should be able to get a good Audi TT for £5000. They have a few known issues but on the whole are reliable, pretty rust free on the bodywork, so can live outside without any issues. Not the best handling car, but excellent grip & comfortable to use & live with.

Buying advice from Hoggy (TT forum Guru)
My standard reply for would be Mk1 owners

    Service history is very important.
Cambelt/water pump 75K miles or 5 years which ever comes first.
Dash instruments (dashpod) read correctly & coolant temp reaches 90 within a couple of miles & stays there.
If it has xenon headlights, make sure the headlight washers work, MOT fail.
3.2 V6 no turbo or cambelt to worry about, so should be more reliable & a nicer exhaust note.
V6 Chain wear can be checked using VagCom, very expensive to replace.
DSG may be weak link, unless you can find a manual. Expensive to repair, but probably no more expensive than a manuals clutch.
Check no delay when pulling away & no juddering when reversing slowly while turning up an incline or into a tight parking space.

Don’t rush into it. A good TT is a wonderful car, a bad un can be a money pit.
Plenty of good uns out there, but probably more bad uns, so as I said don’t rush into it.
A bad TT, could be the most expensive car you’ve ever bought.

Roadsters, check roof operation thorougly & carpets for damp, especially in the rear. Roof drains block easily & damp can cause lot of future probs in rest of car.
    Hoggy.

Oh, and if you want good food avoid the tourist places, they can be dire. We had some of the worst food we have eaten on our trip as we couldn’t avoid eating in a tourist restaurant.

We did a route through France on the way down that went via Reims (we did an overnight stop in a little village north of Reims), then had a couple of days in Annecy, then on down to Pisa for a week ( I wouldn’t stay there again for a week, but it suited us at the time). On the return trip we travelled through Switzerland & stopped in Colmar for a few days (some very pretty villages around there).

We have just painted our daughters kitchen using Frenchic paints & its come out very well. We vinyl wrapped the work tops & that was a difficult job, I can’t imagine how tricky it would be to do all the doors in a kitchen.

Some of the tracks will become unrideable soon but I can do you a route for some XC that would be ridable all year is you wish. It would be heading out towards Blockey & Chipping Campden. We are a small group of riders based in Shipston on Stour & normally do a 3-3.5hour ride on a Sunday morning & if it suits you would be welcome to join us.

    Any Reason not to?
If you buy a bad one the bills can soon add up. Make sure the clutch is good & the cambelt has been done recently. The oil pick pipe needs cleaning occasionally. There are various common problems most of which are not expensive individually. If you can get the car scanned before you buy it, it would be worth doing for peace of mind. There is a flourishing forum https://www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=2
And several Facebook sites. I have a TT 225 Roadster which has been reliable in the main & always got me home.

I (65) had the AZ jab, felt a bit tired for the first 8 hours, then had a fever for about 10 hours. I felt tired the next day , but that could have been from the bad nights sleep. Had a slightly sore arm for a couple of days, but I only noticed it if a used the muscle they injected into. I would have it again without a second thought.
Talking to others that have had it, it seems like about %50 of people will get some symptoms.

Just for a bit of balance. I know of lots who have had no side effects at all. I think posters are more likely to post if they have had a side effect. I deliberately didn’t read about the side effects just in case I brought them on psychosomatically.

I could hardly feel the injection (AstraZeneca) (I hate jabs). After effects where slight tiredness, a fever for about 10hrs. I was tired the next day (but that could have been from the bad nights sleep from the fever). 2 days after the jab I was completely back to normal.

I agree with flicker, but perhaps into several low cost funds/trusts. Growth for such a long term investment, I would have thought, would be a sensible investment style.

Mine took 5 days to do at first, it now lives in the fridge, untouched for weeks at a time, take it out the day before I want to us, let it warm up and give it a feed. That’s it.

I might give it a go then. I didn’t realise it would store in a fridge for so long.

Looks good from the outside! I am impressed. Unfortunately I don’t have the patience to look after a sourdough starter, otherwise I would give it a go.

@Hot_Fiat. Its not my product, I only helped with production engineering the products & tool design. As far as I know the company have not indicated they will do others.

I know them seem costly but the development & tooling cost were expensive!

I have just done a quick calculation using cad & I arrived at 1522mts3. That won’t be 100% accurate though as I assumed the vertical lines were at 90° to the base line & they aren’t. Very close to zilog’s answer though.

I have a 4a. It’s a perfect phone for me. It’s not to big, battery last me a day & a half easily, fingerprint sensor is utterly reliable & very quick. Takes lovely photos. Loads of Storage & quick enough for me. I can’t think of anything that I am disappointed with.
To the thegeneralist, have you tried swiftkey as a keyboard? I have it installed & have no problems with the predictive text, & no problems answering calls.

I am almost totally in equities & I am only 1-2 years from full retirement. I am viewing the retirement investments as a long term investment (hopefully) so don’t see the need for too many “safe” products. Also, my view is that it doesn’t matter how the capital growth is achieved, so I am looking for a good (within reason) growth over a 20/30 year period.

I am looking forward to retirement now & have officially classed myself as semi-retired as I don’t work Fridays!

We mostly use stainless steel pans but we do have a nonstick frying pan for the more sticky eggy stuff. But if the eggs are fresh it’s possible to fry in the stainless steel successfully (but not guaranteed). Cast iron ridged skillet for steaks, tuna etc.

I think I would ask one of the pubs in Chipping Campden if they mind you parking in their car park. Other than that you may be able to park in “back ends” for a long time. One other option may be to ask Cutts of Campden garage, the owner Nick Cutts is a mountain/road biker & could be helpful with parking or some more sensible suggestions than mine.

The only downside to an induction hob is that there is no additional heat generated from the hob itself. This in turn means there is much less convection effect for the removal of steam etc into an extractor. In reality the only noticeable effect for us is that some of the fat/oil condenses on the extractor fan motor housing & after a month or so will drip back down on the hob. It’s easily cleaned & is only a minor problem. I would not want to have any other hob type now. It’s so controllable, heats up incredibly quickly & easy to clean as it never is burnt on.
