Doesn’t sond like you have this problem, but worth checking. If you have something in the battery usage screen call media system (or something like that) which is quite near the top of the list (so using a lot of power) then worth googling it.

What ever media app you download they all rely on the underlying google media program within andriod. On some phones (my nexus included) the app keeps connecting to the play store constantly and drains the battery. I turned of this sync (again google will throw up lots of results for doing this) and the battery life is much improved.

I also found that genrally battery life has improved over the 3 months sincs I’ve had it.

‘I really think that this will up the bench mark for dropper posts’

I’d argue its the reverb. Why would you want a cable when you can have a great feeling hydraulic button. I think they are miles ahead especially if you have a stealth one.

There is so much exposed cable begging to get covered in mud and then inside the outer cable it goes.

I’ve got one in large. Based in Bristol if you want to have a sit on it. Also likely to be in the forest of dean (at pedal a bike away) on Sunday if that works.

They are good bikes and great value for money. I’m 6ft 2″.

Found this thread and rang Neil at 247cycleeshop and he was very helpful.

I’ve got the 2012 wheels, but they had the older silver spoke in stock to fix a broken spoke for the weekend.

They are also going to put an order in for the new (black) 2012 spokes and split the packs to send me just the spares I need.So they should have some in stock for people with the 2012 wheels.

Having been to a couple of shops in Bristol who could all only sell me the full spares pack (you need 3 at £35ish quid each) to have spares for all the spokes it was a great find.

@ bwaarp people are allowed their own opinion, take it easy. Seen you on several threads being quite scaving of people!!!! Good to hear all peoples opinions. Found your post about the dimensions very informative, but annoying because it seemed you only got your spreadsheet out to prove a point :p

@ wobbliscott if they are in stock they turn up in less than 2 weeks. Come really nicely prepped just put the wheels, bars and pedals on and add some air to the shocks e.g. they have set the gears breaks etc before posting

Rode my wicked for the first time today. I know everyone always says this about their new bikes, but………it is really good. The bos suspension is really quite amazing reminding me if a shorter travel fox 40. None of the dive you get from other air forks I’ve ridden.

Overall the bike is light for a 160 and the wheels are stupid light for the size of them, this really seems ito help it go up hill really well.

    And the price is nuts…….

On a side note I hadn’t ridden a clutch mech till today, they make the whole drive chain silent.

Grandad still alive 91 this year. Radio operator and gunner in Wellington two less engines but close. Sorties over Berlin among others. He gave me a faked German ration book that he kept, they used to chuck them out of the plane on the way to put pressure on the food supplies.

One crash landing and a broken arm, very lucky considering the survival rate.

Not noticed that yet, maybe I wasn’t trying hard enough 🙂

I’m sure (hoping) a little bit of flex is not the end of the world. A bit like people are convinced that you need a maxle instead of a QR when I don’t think that most people can tell the difference or if they can it actually holds us mere mortals back.

Was over in Canada recently and we saw a lot of this years hire bikes and they had the discs like the back of that bike, the explanation was that it was srams quick fix to reduce sqeeling.

Col de cou (not how u spell it I’m sure!) Is in the pds it is of the back of les pointe de moresette lift towards les croset and hang a massive left. It’s a big climb up to a ridge that runs some sweet singletrack back to morzine

This post comes up every year on every forum. The best basic advice is maxis and dual ply. Its not even worth thinking about non.dual ply, even for xc out there because if your riding any technical decents you’ll get pinch flats e.g jacky Chan in les gets for.anyone.who knows it.

Personal pref after a couple of.seasons guiding in the alps was a super tacky hr on the front and a 60a on the back (other wise the rear tyre would be done in 4 days).

Bare in mind it rains in the alps especially in August highrollers are your rubber of choice in all but the wettest conditions (oooer missus)

hate the slating the porte de soliel now a days, it was a pioneer in mountain bike resorts and back in the md 2000 when I was guiding there morzine was a great place to be in the summer working at the sherpa, especially cavern and paradise/opera when What u need to do is u morzine as your base and aviod the pleaney and head out on the super morzine and get to all t
he quality riding there is out there. If u can’t find it get a guide or go with a company that offers guiding otherwise u might end up on the ‘motorway’ as suprisi ngly u wouldn’t turn up at the places where joy riders/switch backs and bike verbier etc and expect to know where all the best riding was would you? E.g one of the best trails in the pre les joux (chatel bike park) is widow maker or clandestine as they call it, but it is hard to find without a guide, or point de moissette.

Sorry rant over, have been elswhere in the alps and thorughly recomend pila alp d’heuz etc

Anyway this place is one of the best linked resorts in the world as long as u know where your going!!!!

I wouldn’t listen to any of the posts where they say don’t take food! If you’re going for anymore than an hour you’ll want to take something with you.

I never used o eat on the bike, but was amazed the difference it makes if you eat every 30-45 minutes or so.

My Grandad was in Bomber Comman- Wellington Bombers as Radio Op and Gunner.

He suvived the 20 sorties which made up the tour (I think that was the number). I have a copy of his log book and makes interesting reading, missions over Berlin etc.

He only crashlanded once (lucky!) and broke his arm when his plan had to limp back after getting hit.

His best story is how they used to drop German ration cards to try and upset food supplys! I’ve got one of them at home.

He’s 90 this year and still going strong, was a keen cyclist which is how I got into it.

Just got back from a week in montgenevre and we spent the day down there. Snow was good although it was a little busier than monty. Previous year we did a whole week there staying with skitopia. More than enough for a week and u get a day in monty in your lift pass which is well worth doing.

The nightlife was good, but we were with a big group so we could make our own fun. Our favourite bar was le grot as they always had something going on. There was also a Swedish bar that had a live acoustic night where dancing on tables was was encouraged which was good fun.

We ate up the mountain most days, they we ok and not as expensive
    as say the 3 valleys.

Beers about 4 to 4.50 euros in town, 3.50 at le grot happy hour 3-5pm that’s pints.

If your breaking 721s frequently which I assume are the newer version of the d521 then your dong something wrong! One of the best (still) dh rims on the Market. I can understand the dt rims as they are made of cheese!

Shimano are the only brakes I've had that have never had heat issues or seen clients/mates in the alps not have issues with.

The new hays do seem really grabby.

Not sure about the new hopes, but the old ones were rubbish (minis M4s etc) and it has put me off. Also they are over priced IMHO.

Avids look nice, I have no realy experience of them, but the few pairs I have used once or twice seemed spongy (but that may have been set up)

Mate you may be able to help me. One of my bearings has disintegrated. It's the one where the top of the rocker bolts onto the top of the rear triangle. Do you know which bearing that is?

After two years guiding in the alps (was 2005/6 though) I'd only run shimano having seen countless hopes give out at inapropriate times. Avids didn't fair much better and don't get me started on Hayes el caminos! New Hayes better I think. Maguras also seemed reliable.

Thank you for all of the posts, has been very useful.

One that did really strike me was getting the triple and then if I don't get on with it the change to compact would be relativley straightforward (new chain set) and cheaper than the other way round.

Think I'm going to go that way.

    Cheers all!

I couldn't believe it before xmas I ordered some some pedro and park bottle openers, so small parcel on 22nd Dec and they arrived the next day on the standard delivery!!

I've been using them for years, since my first order of some hard nox leg armour (if people remember that stuff!) and stuff has always turned up super quick!

I live in Gloucester so there are some steep hills getting up in to the Cotswolds.

I reasonably fit, but not century fit yet…I plan on training properly for it though.

I'm not worried about gear snobs I just want the right geared bike!
