Agree with above I think proper bibs (with shoulder straps) are best as they don’t move.

Marvelo and a few others also do some with pockets on the back. Useful for a cheeky snack etc if wearing a baggy top or t-shirt

Having done similar I would think carefully about the use case for the suit.

If you’re going to mainly paddle on flat inland water you won’t need a wetsuit. Once you get the balance thing right, you won’t really fall in and will get way to hot in any kind of wetsuit.

On the sea in waves a wetsuit is a good idea, but you won’t be in the sea for long (not like surfing) so I reckon you can get away with thinner suits, shorties etc, as again you will cook while paddling otherwise.

Did you actually click any of the jobs types?! There are no jobs listed. Poor that they haven’t removed the Russia part of the site, but I imagine it’s an oversight (that they should quickly resolve) rather than the daily mail headline of this thread “actively recruiting” 😂

Meant to add, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible and the fireroads do give some options to cut short if it does cause any issues.

Agree with comments above. All I would say having ridden Thetford years back and riding fod regularly the real difference is the gradient.

That is going to cause two problems, tiredness because of the climbs and a bit a of adjustment to the braking and maybe some reservation initially if it looks steeper etc on the descents.

There is a skills area near the pump track and also a shorter track for four wheelers which is fun also.

As others hAve mentioned you can shorten the loop via some fireroads, but need map etc as not signposted.

Weed membrane stuff and gravel. Just need to dig down to the depth of gravel you want. Load of online gravel calculators. Few hundred quid max.

Just go to Netherlands, Germany etc and everyone is on all sorts of bikes with loads of cargo bikes chucked in. Totally normal. Also totally normal to have all sort of different price point bikes.

Love this forum, people chucking shit loads on MTBs, but dare to spend a good amount on a intown bike and you’re a middle class t**t. E bikes especially for town use carrying stuff are literally the best use case. Especially in typical non Netherlands scenarios.

Guess biggest problem is really that still as a nation we are shit at seeing bikes as transport in general.

I’ve got an ecargo bike and it is the best bike I’ve ever had. It is expensive , but same as a mountain bike and ride it more.

To others points I haven’t given up the car completely, but round town clocked up 400 miles din 6 months doings shortt tripst to the shops, child care etc. Amazing how it adds up.

For me without electric it would be a slog, whereas with the motor you can do it easy without needing a shower etc.

Also it’s a bit like a vw transporter, high outlay, use it for a few years and still worth a fair bit.

I’ve got a Harry v Larry ebullit with a 8 speed hub gear (worth having something you can change gest without pedalling when you stop at the lights in the wrong gear, as you can’t just pick up the rear and spin the wheel to get it in the right gear !)

I’ve ordered the 2021 30 in the crazy purple and pink colour. Sizing wise I’m typically an “XL”, the shop I’m buying from (had. to do remotely) did mention that some of the sizes are quite roomy. I ended up settling for a large on their recommendation.

Hopefully it will be the right size! Just worth looking at the charts.

As mentioned above if they are in a bag easy to slide in under bed.

Agree with anyone who has said go to a shop.

It is exactly like ski boots.

If you go in with a brand and model you want you can guarantee you’ll walk out with something different.

Get feet measured and take the boots that fit.

Rode an ebullit last week. Had 8 speed Shimano Hub gear.

Was excellent, easy to ride and really enjoyable as a bike.

Got one on order and fitting this kit from Germany for the kids to travel in
https://rad3.de/produkt/kidsbox-bullitt/ which is similar to what Riese & Müller come with.

    Can’t wait to get it

    Been a few times.

Amazingly enough not been off-road there, but the road biking is great and there are plenty of hills

When we’ve been there in may, the sea is flat as a pancake early morning so book on early. Gets choppy later on and they stop running the boat

Sailing wise depends what you want, both time I’ve been there it’s windier in the afternoon (like most of Greece) but not consistently windy.

Great place though and neilson holidays are good, especially with kids and the kids clubs are amazing. Couldn’t get ours out of them.

Going back this year can’t wait.

Yeah I should subscribe. Wasn’t really the point, it was more a comment that a business that will rely on all revenue streams might want to invest in some testing.

I’ve no idea how much they rely on non subscribers generating advert revenue. If it’s a significant part of their business (which it is for a lot websites) then they need to test it……or lose traffic.

Wasn’t expecting much really from the post, but didn’t know where else to direct the feedback. Trying not to moan as have used the site for years, more wanted to let them know!

Ex teacher here. Only did two years in my twenties, then changed career via a graduate scheme (so probably not helpful given your experience).

12+ years later I’ve come across a few ex teachers in my industry ( project management) heaps of transferable skills (if you can manage 30 kids you can manage a project team of arguing adults), but all of them had to start as juniors etc.

In a position now where i hire people for the teams, I would be interested in the transferable skills, but as others have said it’s hard to just give someone a job because they have transferable skills but no experience in a more senior role.

Apprenticeship are now available for all ages and could be a quick route in, once you’re in if it’s the right company you can progress quickly.

Loving the thread. Have a rocket max and it is the dogs wotsits.

Just got a Solaris max frame (xl) has anyone had issues with clearance of break leavers/shifters on the top tube?

Running two spacers but they’re hitting the top tube

Had similar before and it’s been the lower crown race or lower bearing race. Even on qUite new bikes. Clean and new grease.

Might not be tHat but quite common as that part gets lots of spray and water can collect there.

Can sound like it’s coming from further down the fork

May well not be this but i had gear issues and it was the rear mech coming loose on the mech hanger. This was on x01 but same system tightened up and issue sorted.

Just in case anyone ever stumbles across this thread in the future. I pulled the cassette and driver out of the hub. Soaked it all in gt85 and left it for half an hour. Reassembled it to the hub and it then came loose.

Worth checking but think you have to sign on saturday by a certain time either morning or early afternoon. Seeding usually starts at 3 on Saturday. So if you want to practise the course you need to get there in the morning.

Looking forward to it and hoping its drier than the last round 🙂

I got into PM’ing business and IT projects via a grad scheme. I had previously been a teacher. They didn’t specify IT experience as they were lookiong for more general transferable skills.

The scheme allowed you to try rotations in business analysis and project management and then focus on which you were best at.

For most of these schemes you need a 2:1 degree. Mine was in geography and PGCE in teaching, so not really related apart from demonstrating there are transferable skills e.g. dealing with a class of screaming kids is much like dealing with 3rd party IT suppliers :).

    http://www.zurich.co.uk/graduates/ourgraduateprogrammes/ourgraduateprogramme.htm

I did this 6 years ago and the starting salary back then was £24k. So would probably be more now.

Its a good route in if you don’t have any experience and want to get on quickly. I’m sure there are other companies offering similar schemes as well.

It worked well for me and has now allowed me to go contracting which is one way to make a quick buck out of the industry.

    Cheers

Or if you don’t want to get into the techy side, apply for a graduate scheme in a business change or IT department doing something like a business analyst role or project management. They will train you up and give you real life experience and the pay will likely be better than front line support role.

I did Geography at uni and now manage IT and Business change projects.

Cheers for all of the info really helpful. I was thinking of crossmax st wheels. Need to get a test ride booked in and look beyond the wheels by the sound of it!!!

    andysandes

I was the guide there the first year it opened back in 2003. As said above the road riding is excellent even if you have to do it on a mountain bike. The offroad is good as well, but mainly wider tracks, but plenty technical enough because of the loose rocks everywhere.

Good water skiing and wake boarding as the water is flat, but its not a very windy resort, although that does pick up in September a little.

Cheers that is what I imagined it would be like from the wheel size, head angle etc. As you suggest need to get booked in on a demo of one.

I’m 6ft 2″ and I had a large. Not sure of that helps or not. I reckon a medium would suit.
