It’s the same as a vanilla and an rp2, except the vanilla has platform damping on all the time, the rp2 has an on/off switch (good for which ever way your pointing and getting the best out og the single pivot goodness) and the rp23 has 3levels to choose from, which basically means you’ll fiddle with it once and then just turn it on and off.

Oh, and after a year they all need a service, and the best money you can spend will be to send it to TFT and get it Pushed. You’ll then have an AWESOME BIKE 😆

Had a letter from itv meridian telling my son they will be able to support his transition to the fully digital signal switch over. Apparently they’re doing this subcontracted by the BBC. It only cost £50 for this service.

Whats wrong with that you might ask?

I pay the TV license, and it doesn’t mention my son when I renew it each year, oh, and if they have been sold his details, surely they must know he’s a Statemented Autistic 6yr old child! 😈

Later on, we saw the funny side and had a good laugh about it I can tell you

its only round the corner, 25 mins max, and a ‘normal’ Swinley loop is about 2hrs. Also, fairly easy to get back to the car park at any point. Just LOTS of wiggly bits in the woods, without leaving you stranded miles from the car.

OH, and it’s a waste of time ‘aiming low’ as employers spot that a mile off, and its not a sure thing. Nothing is, until you have a signed contract.

Oh, and maintain at least 10 – 15 opportunities at all times.

+1 for get out and ride. Just got employment after a 7 month ‘enforced holiday’.

Get down the job center, sign on and then set yourself targets and a routine. Try and remember not to pester any ‘nibbles’ you get, but be persistent!

Don’t rely on agents, they have their own agenda, and build upon your existing network of contacts in your field. Maybe its time to broaden your field of career interests too. Build variants of your CV to suit, so they are ready and waiting to post at a moments notice. I found it useful to build a spreadsheet and update it every evening (you can use this for evidence of job searching for the Job Center too)

Most companies these days don’t use generic agents, so go direct, and remember you are the only person fighting your corner!

Good luck, don’t get down, and stop watching all those TopGear and QI repeats…

press the pause button! I have a friend with a Scandal singlespeed, an Inbred and now a c456. Once I catch up with him, you can get a concise objective view.

TBH it rather depends upon where you ride I think. For example, I take my full suss 140mm bike to Surrey Hills, and my HT to Swinley or South downs, and it flip flops between being geared and singlespeed.

I’m waiting to see what reception the On one Lurcher gets (its a swoopy 29er in carbon) because I think night riding a 29er with 16 on the hub in the Southdowns sounds like fun.

The only problem is that the wife might notice yet another 2 wheeled device in my life…

but the 29er would be far more fun in singletrack than a C456

I would most definitely question the logic to this statement!

what ever happened, I’m sure WCA has a vivid recollection of such an event filled day, but my pressing concern is that he hasn’t piped up yet 😯

I’ve ridden the trail route in Singletrack, and most seems well draining gravelly singletrack. Like anywhere there might be some Somme moments, but its just the added fun of Autumn riding 😆

I have a 456 ti, and it is a fantastic bike. I know somebody who rode Cwm Carn DH all day on a carbon 456 (and did the road jump (well beyond my cohonas quotient)).

But then, if you want a 29er you want a 29er….

yes, that’s a little bit steep, but the one I’m thinking of is a little harder to describe, but here goes:

If you at the fence of the reservoir beyond the gully and then ride as if heading towards the wall etc, there is a steep forest road to your left (ignoring all of the great singletrack to your right). At the bottom of the hill, at the first crossroads there is a little track on your left which winds back up towards the reservoir, it levels out and then kicks skywards! Loose, pine needle covered, soft and roots too.

I can think of no better challenge

Oh, and there is a climb nobody I know has ever managed, not far from the reservoir passed the gully, infact that reminds me of another one too…Elfnsafety:

    its all relative 😉

there are a couple of tricky little (yes not Bicknoller (thank god!))ones near the Twister which I’ve only ever managed on a geared bike.

You supervisor is wise. A phd will limit career opportunities rather than expand them. Employers don’t look for a clever person any more. They want experience in a particular field. Sad but true. If you want to stay in academia long term, and enjoy research, view that as your career choice. Good luck, and don’t make the choice lightly.

I don’t ride my bike on the road anymore due to being spat at, bottles lobbed at me and attempts to run me off the road. I only ever rode on my own, and considerately. It’s a shame I think that in middle class Britain I was far from safe.

On my motorbike I still see stupidity, especially on narrow lanes. Today, I had a lady driver deliberately bully me to the side of the road as she approached from the opposite direction. Almost enough to make me want to turn round and have an argument, but to be honest, why bother? If the drivers are prepared to endanger life, talking to them is hardly going to help. I just like to think the karma bank will deliver justice eventually

Motorcycle helmet warranties then go pooof!

Stickers are the only option to maintain integrity.

It’s really not worth wearing a painted cycle helmet. You may as well wear a sock puppet for the good it will do in a head vs rock incident.

No worries, but bin the stabilisers? I’ll try it. Your advice is brilliant, thank you. It gives me hope to hear it’s possible.
