In the end you’ll realise that babies are actually very hardy things and just use cold water straight from the tap and a 30 second blast in the microwave (for 6oz, 800w microwave, adjust as necessary).

We really should have an STW Northumberland branch ride out.

Few years ago I was taking some Cheviot virgins around. Up on the border ridge between windy gyle and black brae the north wind was so strong it was blowing helmets off heads and people off bikes. Then it started hailing. There is no shelter along that part.

Still, had a nice tailwind on the down into coquetdale.

Unfortunately the usway burn stretch isn’t as good as it was after the loggers got their machinery on it.

    Northumberland is crap. Don’t bother.

The Lakes would get my vote to, very convenient for the NE, just avoid holidays

My birthday falls during half term, hence going north to avoid the crowds in the Lakes. Thanks everyone.

Can be done. Was once involved in restoring a huge one (about 80m long, 2.5m high) at a engineers I used to work for. Google ‘dry stone retaining wall’ and one of the first results should be a technical spec from the dwsa (dry stone walling association). Make sure you leave enough horizontal distance between each wall so the upper one isn’t surcharging the lower.

I’d be extremely tempted to go with a faced block retaining wall as andyl suggests above though for quicker build and reduced maintenance.

My dad is a carpenter/joiner who has fitted lots of them. He says they’re ok which in anyone else’s language would be really good as most other kitchen manufacturers he describes as s***e. It’s all about the carcasses apparently.

Sprouts (I’m banned from eating them), Marstons Oyster Stout (banned from drinking it). Curry, something like tahka dahl should do nicely.

How long do you think cheap modern toasters last?

That’s about how long my last one lasted.

I replaced it with the latest model.

    Report to police for harrasment?

Leave life size cardboard cut outs of yourselves out the front with a radio set to a chat station hidden away somewhere whilst you’re in the back.

Forgot to mention you need special valves too. Either get some from superstar/nextdaytyres, etc or make your own by cutting up a couple of old innertubes..

    See this thread too.

    Yep.

T’is easy. Just get some of the stans rim strip (if they’ve not already got them on. Comes in various sizes – there’s a selector tool on the link below) to seal the spoke holes, put one side of your tyre fully on, most of the other side, add a cup or 2 of sealant, fully put tyre on, pump like a crazy thing. It can help to seat some of the tyre onto the bead on both sides of the valve using a tyre lever to help stop the air from escaping.

I use daily disposables from daysoft. Way more comfortable in my eyes than the ones I used to get from Specsavers.

I got one back in Jan to replace my old Spesh FSR-XC. It’s bloody brilliant!

Way more capable downhill but perfectly happy to climb and run through the tight twisty paths in the local woods. I’ve taken it on long moorland rides in the Pennines and it was a lovely bike to be on but it begs to be hammered downhill as quick as you can go. Grins a plenty. I’ve got it with 150mm Pikes (SC only recommend 140 forks max but I spoke to Stif/Jungle and they recommended putting 150 forks on) gives about a 67 degree head angle for hooning DH and having fun. The front is really easy to lift even with my 70mm stem.

Pedals really easily with no hint of bob even with the shock open, first bit of rear travel feels really fluid but then ramps up to give a larger than 125mm travel feel. I’m really happy I got it.

Not Kermit but he definitely sounds like he’s a Muppets character. Glad I’m not the only one that thinks that.

Just re-watched the Rach clip and there is a marshall holding a yellow flag just before she gets on to the wood (fnarrr!)

Thrunton is doable on a 29er hardtail but I think you’d have more fun doing this route.

Cracking cafes in Rothbury too. Start the ride in Rothbury though (the car park is just before the 35km marker).

    Some photos:

These are all from the last bit just north of Rothbury.

Well, I’ve just handed my notice in as a structural technician to be a stay at home dad for our 2 boys for the next few years minimum until they’re both at school.

After that, who knows? Probably a bit of freelancing or professional dog walking (which I do with our mutt anyway).

They’ve got a few massive shops up here in the toon and they’re a good bunch of lads & lasses.

Only ever bought goods in shop but have had no hassles with returning/swapping faulty items.

I started from equal pressure with about 20% sag then tweaked. I preferred them with about 5psi more in the -ve chamber then the +ve. Seemed to soak up the smaller trail chatter better.

5kg weight with two tie-wraps to hang it from. Move it up the handle to the point where the torque wrench ‘clicks’. Distance = 17.5cm

    So,
    Force = 5kg x 9.8 = 49N
    Torque = 49 x 0.175 = 8.5Nm

You forgot to take the self weight of the wrench into account.

Walks – go to Barrowburn in the Coquet Valley and walk up to Windy Gyle – the view is spectacular but I can guarantee you’ll be wishing you had your bike (unless it’s blowing a gale) or do the 5 miler circular one from there which is more sheltered (ask at the tea room).

You are bringing your bike aren’t you?

    Warkworth castle is fantastic.
Alnwick Castle / Gardens are impressive but expensive.
Housesteads is a good fort plus you can tie it in with a walk along the best preserved part of the wall in stunning scenery.
The Ship in Newport is good but small so book a table.
