Stood on the corner of a 2×4 lego piece whilst barefoot. Right in the arch.

Finally got round to creating a revit beam family with nested shelf angles where the size/vertical position of the angles and if they’re actually there can be specified in the model. If this makes no sense to you don’t worry.

Before we bought this 1960s house we seriously considered a new build on a new estate.

The main reasons why we didn’t were the size of the gardens, how overlooked your garden is and this house meant we could walk the kids to school. Yes, I know new builds have their problems but which house doesn’t? This one really needs insulation in the walls retrofitted, we had to completely redo the plumbing and electrics (the old chap was an electrical engineer apparently and had made a few ‘interesting’ modifications). Everywhere is a comprimise, at least with a new build you get the NHBC guarantee – or should.

Thank you Isla and co for making learning to ride so much easier for my kids than it was for me.

Not jealous at all*. Was out there for a few weeks way back in 2005. Great (hazy with time) memories.

Hope he’s discovered Fergburger by now (southern swine FTW!). Jeez, it’s still there but damn, it’s got even more expensive. Also, the canyon swing is way more fun than the bungee IMO

    * this is a lie.

Cheers everyone, yep it’s the value of the building works exceeding halifax’s threshold causing the problem.

We stayed at the Dar-Al-Masyaf for a few days on the return leg of our honeymoon over a decade ago. Right by the beach, lots of water, could go in and have a look around the Burj Al Arab. Think we got free entry to the Wild Wadi water park next door but might be mistaken on that.

Didn’t really get to see the city (this was before the Khalifa was built) but the hotel was awesome.

NE and you don’t include Northumberland. Bloody southerners. ;)

Anyway, Chopwell is within easy reach for me, Hamsters too. The moors, pennines, cheviots, etc….

Away this weekend but could do with some new people to ride with as a heavy crash at the end of May has made me realise riding on my own everytime isn’t always the best idea.

I can’t stand FB Marketplace/gumtree – the idiots have pushed me off. I’ve just sold my sons Islabike Creig 26 on ebay but had to post it via Paisley Freight.

Obviously it depends what you’re selling and if someone wants it: I’m finally selling my SC Blur TR (pretty much everywhere except FB marketplace) and not a sniff so far (/stealth_ad).

I hate this thread. My son has outgrown his old bike and now has a shiny new Vitus Sentier 27 VRX (and a jealous dad).

Cracking day (ignoring my youngests meltdown mid womens race). Great atmosphere, great racing, great track, great spectators. Everything was great. Particularly liked the amount of support the back markers were getting. Thus ends my report. Have some photos:

My wife’s just given me the list of kit she wants to take tomorrow…. anyone know a Sherpa in the Tweed Valley?

STW cow bells are already packed, as are paracetamol. Gnarpoon T is at the ready.

Weather forecast has improved from this morning when the metoffice were showing thunderstorms, now only showers.

    Really looking forward to it.

This Cycling News article gives more info. Linky TLDR – Van der Poel, Pidcock & Sagan bumped up to 5th row (positions 33-35) instead of at the back.

The first bike I bought myself with money saved up from my paper rounds – a 1993 Kona Cindercone. Was fantastic fun, would’ve made a great gravel bike.

I’m probably going to feel like it soon about another bike I’m ‘keeping’ for my kids (who have 0 interest in MTB) – a Santa Cruz Blur TR (old 26″ wheel version). I just can’t bring myself to sell it.

    Found the map:

From technical guide on the UCI website on this page.

I can’t place where any of it is in the forest!

The first climb is on the hill behind the pods (you can see them in the background when Scotty stops to talk about it), the final descent bit is on the hill above the cafe / SFC building. Not sure of the rest of it but I’m dragging the family up complete with STW cowbells!

Everyone has covered what I was going to say except the MTB at Whakarewarewa (Redwoods, just outside Rotorua) is excellent.

If you go to Queenstown (which you should do really) do the canyon swing. 60m freefall into a lovely smooth swing in epic scenery – I recommend the Elvis cutaway. Way better than a bungy in my opinion (did both). Then back into town for a Fergburger. T’is traditional.

Oh yeah, pronunciation tip: ‘Wh’ at the beginning of Maori words is same sound as an f.

The Ashoka series is basically going to be a live action sequel to Rebels. Those space Whales that Grogu saw whilst Mando was sleeping are extremely significant to any Rebels follow up

Yep, the whole of the Ghost crew are supposedly in it including a certain droid @funkermasterp. From the rabbit hole I went down last night Disney announced that Sabine has been cast (I’m still expecting her to turn up in Mando at some point). Not going to reveal any potential plots as I want to forget what I’ve read. First trailer rumoured to be in April.

So if you haven’t watched Rebels do it now as it’s cracking.

If you haven’t got a splitter yet get yourself one of these:

    Fiskars X27

It’ll make light work of that lot.

Did pretty much the same last year, wandered in to Richer Sounds with the same sort of budget thinking about a Sonos but the manager of the shop steered me in the direction of this:

    Denon DHT-S416

Very happy I am with it too.

I’ll vote for Rockshox Reba Team, dual air, black box damper. Most sensitive, small bump eliminating forks I’ve ever had. How I wish a fork manufacturer would bring back dual air springs. Easy to service too.

Like these – not mine. Too long I know but look for a 100mm version of them.

It’s at least 10 years since I last rode any of the blue route and back then it was mostly all just fireroads. I expect it’s changed since then. Looking at the trail map and it appears to have done so can’t really comment on the current route.

Honestly, take her anyway even if you don’t go for a ride as there is lots for kids to do at Hamsterley. The playpark is massive. My kids love the place.

I assume you know you can hire Bird bikes there, they also do kids bikes (think they’re Frogs).

Strip footings need to be a minimum of 450mm below ground level (to the top of them) to avoid frost damage, how deep they go from there depends on the ground conditions/where your existing ones are. A raft slab is a viable alternative, have a look at the top post here for typical sections around the perimeter and existing which would need to be modified slightly for you depending where your floor level is/existing foundations are.

A conservatory still needs a proper foundation similar to a house, possibly only 450mm wide concrete strip instead of 600mm or wider but it still needs one.

Get a mini digger and clear the site yourself. Cheaper and more fun.

Where’s that soil pipe drain to?

I have a love/hate relationship with my Dryrobe I got for Christmas a few years ago.

Love – warm, waterproof(ish), lots of room to get changed in.

Hate – the hood not being big enough so when I’ve got it up the whole weight of the robe is lifted off my shoulders to the top of my head. The external pockets are way too low – I have to pull the robe up to reach whatever it is I need at the bottom of them (FYI – I’m 6’4″ with a long upper body).

Demo’d one recently at Hamsterley – it’s a fantastic bike and has gone to the top of my list.

I’ve been following this thread as I’m in the same situation. Decided at lunch to get a SC Hightower alloy frame I’d seen in the sales and build that up how I wanted. Only it’s been sold during my deliberations & can’t find another. Typical.

However, I’ve just looked on the Privateer website and I think I’m in love…

We had a builder out today to look at some renovation works in our house. His electricity has been off since Friday and NP have told him they might be reconnected by the 8th. He lives fairly close to Newcastle airport so not rural at all.

Hats off to all the NP people working round the clock to get everyone out of this mess and all the people helping those who’ve been affected.

Another vote for either crown gems or cross kings.

I’ve just got some of these grips for my youngest as his 24″ bike came with adult size grips (why???)

I got conti cross kings for my youngest. Tried the ^ conti explorer too but the cross kings are 2″ rather that 1.75″ and the speeds my youngest goes I wanted to get a higher volume tyre and run them at lower pressures to give him a fraction more comfort. So far so good.
