Just bear in mind that many Motorpoint cars are ex-rental, and may have been abused, check for poor smart repairs both inside and out, and ask to see the V5

[quoteCash is still king at small dealers if you are willing to buy at trade – ie no warrenty
no and no. Dealers can only sell trade to the trade, not retail customers, cars must be supplied with a warranty. Even small dealers earn finance commission and volume bonuses, cash isn’t king.

Its largely pointless, as for 99% of riders who aren’t racing a world cup, the most important thing is how the bike feels. I like my 29er because its nice to ride and puts a smile on my face, at no point in a ride do I worry if my big wheels are making me 2.2 seconds slower on a 1km stretch of trail.
If I worried about this stuff I would question why I’m riding mountain bikes in the first place.

I’d be interested in riding one for curiosity’s sake, but couldn’t ever see myself owning one.
most of my riding is on fireroads and double track with a lot of climbing so a 38lb bike would be pointless really…and then there is the looks…

[quoteNB My wife manages franchised dealers for car manufacturers for a job. She says no one would chose being a dealer; you’d make a better return putting the money is a savings account. It’s a very tough business now as over supply and competition have killed all the profit in the retail side.
Depends on what you are selling and how well you do it, inchcape retails share price has tripled in the past 18 months. They are making money and lots of it, it would seem.

Don’t know the ins and outs of the car market but I’ve just bought a VW Up and there was NO movement on the price AT ALL. All the online advice, reviews and haggling guides told the same story.

The VW rep was right, there is only 1.5% margin to play with on registration on an UP, which on that basis is only enough for the dealer to cover their expenses selling it (pdi, plates etc). A VW dealer going for volume however may be inclined to discount an UP if he/she is going for a manufacture bonus, but this normally only happens and the end of the quarter when chasing numbers. I have known VW dealers to discount the UP by up to £1000 but the car will loose alot of money until/if they hit the target, when the loss would be returned via the bonus.

Full suspension bikes can be skill compensators, but i would say mostly only on technical climbs, where you can get away with more it terms of lines and traction.

However i much, much prefer to ride my fuss sus over my hardtail, its just a nicer place to be especially on longer rides :-)

A few years back a bod high up in Vauxhall told me the car company only makes 60 euro on every Corsa that leaves the factory, he mentioned that it was the dealers that made the most out of the whole transaction, not the car company. Mind you i guess that was pure profit after expenses, so for company producing many thousands of cars i dont suppose its that bad…

It could simply be that you are tired from the Journey, which combined with the change of surroundings has triggered a little panic. I suffer from this too, unless there is another underlying reason that you havent mentioned, i would get some diazapan tablets but only a small dose say 5mg, and i would only take them when you have panic, as they make you drousy so you cant drive and you may not enjoy the holiday if too sleepy!

When you get back from your hols see a doc as diazapan should only be a short term fix as its highly addictive, there are other drugs available as well as CBT etc

Just try to relax :-)

Fitness to me is being able to get up and run distance at the drop of a hat. The distances are more stamina, but fitness is being able to get up and go time after time.

Ive been really pleased with the XTC composite 29er, i have the 2013 1 model, great frame, not harsh for a carbon framed hardtail and comfy on longer rides as it feels quite like a trail bike, weighs 26lbs even with the quite heavy standard wheels. I just think for the money its a good all rounder.

Try to gain a bit of historical perspective, before writing something off as ‘tosh’.[/

Thats my opinion and im sticking to it, we are discussing the radio of today not the 60’s. When i hear the Beetles on the Radio of today i switch it off. And i switch it off because i consider the songs to be utter tosh. No amount of history is going to change that opinion.

Been living in Slovakia for 11 months now, will need to return to the UK to study soon, but dreading it..

There are always pros and cons with any country and culture, but aside from money,( i earn a third of what i did in the UK) its better in many ways. The people are lovely, and very genuine. And i love the climate and the very diverse wildlife here like Bears,Wolves, Eagles, Lynx….etc

Oh and the important bit..the riding is great, the country has an extensive trail network, very well signed although some of the so called family routes could very well be classed as red or even black grade in the UK..! The Slovaks really do have a wicked sense of humour!

my 2010 anthem x 26, medium with fox set-up. Just so confident on it, felt i could take on any trail esp the ones that eluded me in the past. And bloody fast too. :-)

[quoteMy understanding is that professionals spend most of their training time on the road. That’s because they get fitter on a road bike
Thats because road cycling is much easier on your body, to train for 25 hours a week off road would not give a MTB racer what they need, plus also for long constant power workouts its virtually impossible to do them off road because of the technical nature of most trails.

Dont do anything rash with the car, at least get a few valations before you sell it, as you only had the car since Jan with £1800 trade in it may not be worth what you owe.
Might be better to keep hold of it for a little longer.

Its tough but the best thing to do is not to make any rash decisions that you may regret in the near future.

She on the other hand is a total wrongun, no doubt.

Not sure aerodynamics comes into play on the low speeds of a climb, if its steep 10%+ unless you are a pro i very much doubt you will be travelling more than 10mph anyway.

It doesnt matter how much you try to educate the Mrs, the fact is she will never understand why I paid £500 for a wheelset that saves me 200g.

unless…

The most effective policy now is to carefully time an e-bay sale to coincide with the item i bought 3 weeks ago to emerge from its hiding place in the loft. So the conversation then goes.

” What! £120 for new handlebars, why? What was wrong with the old ones?’
‘ Not a lot, thats why i got £90 for them on e-bay (lie)’
‘ oh ok then just dont do it again’
(i will of course)
