    Why is that?

The importance of bees cannot be understated, there is plently of litrature online if you wanted to research them and the role they play.

It’s a classic example of a small issue being used to attack the wider reasons for being vegan.

Its not a small issue. Its a huge issue.

A great deal of vegan content especially on social media platforms is so heavily biased towards the cause that it becomes toxic.

When i was Vegan i was telling everybody not to eat honey because ‘ it kills bee’s’ , ‘ we are stealing their food’ . It was only when i properly researched the topic and met with beekeepers that i realised what i had been preaching was utter bollocks.

It wss at that point i realised there was absolutely no point in holding banners outside Mc Donalds but should have been outside ICI or any other firm that is producing the insecticides that pose the biggest threat to all life.

    Rant over!

I firmly believe the often aggressive reaction to someone’s else’s choice of lifestyle or diet is down to a feeling of guilt.

Or when the Vegan is missguided, the honey agrument is a classic.

Its normally the ‘new’ Vegans that are pretty hardcore in my experience, debating them is near impossible.

Im speaking from personal experience being a Vegan from 2013 to 2016 when i look back on myself i was an absolute shit.

Its only when you truly live that lifestyle full time and fail you kind of realise why there are actually very few long term  GENUINE vegans out there.

If you are long term i actually admire you.

Sell privately, there are loads of Eastern Europeans in the UK that would lap that up. It will probably find its way to Romania in a couple of weeks where it will be broken into little pieces.

BS, you pick the less diverse one, thats discrimination….

BS, picking one over another would be discriminatory.

And yes, its unlikely but an example of how the line can be crossed.

You don’t have to discriminate to have a diverse workforce, and indeed it’s illegal to do so.

Ok, one vacancy two applicants. Both perfectly suited to the job but one will diversify the workforce to the desired effect. The ‘ diverse ‘ applicant is chosen.

    Thats discrimination.

But to be diverse surely you must discriminate?

I can tell you discs and pads a corner are £400 a set,

Holy crap, how so cheap. Dealers will charge £1500 for discs and pads all round.

A way for bike retailers to get people to buy an N +1 bike they don’t really need?

One mans N+1 is another mans staple.

I’ll admit that when i first got my gravel bike i did wonder why? But after 5,000 or so k’s on it and well over 100,000m gained i wouldnt change it for the world.

Definately the best bike in my fleet (of 4).

Does it have NAV? If not you cant retro fit on that model so be aware of that.

Condition of discs and pads, both are expensive to replace on the S4

Wouldnt touch one without an Audi ( preferable) history, its also worth getting the reg number and politely asking Audi service to tell you if there is anything on the service record that shouts out as being a future problem. They wont give you detail if you are not the owner but should advise you if amything looks untoward.

S4 is a very underrated car, the RS4 is of course better but will cost ALOT more ( as well as being a theft target)

I will see you in 10 years and we can find out.

Some people take cycling forums way too seriously

Basic set: Road; gravel; mtb; fatbike.
Icing on the cake: Fixie; ss mtb; DH
Oddball: Unicycle; vintage; retromtb; tandems; recumbents….

Fixies,SS go into a new category ‘ slightly oddball’

I never assumed any of this was for gravel?, bigger tyres make more sense on road bikes

Agree, but i think the driver for all of these is still for the average road cyclist to, in one way shape or form to get off road. Whether the off road is a canal path, forest road, bike path or gravel track the desire is obviously there.

My opinion is slightly skewed as i dont live in the UK, but can say that my LBS is doing an absolutely roaring trade in gravel bikes specificaly the trek checkpoint for some reason.

I live in the middle of a lot of gravel roads but the majority of people riding bikes are road riders who just ride straight past all the lovely gravel roads as that is not what they want to ride.

Fair enough, its just that bike manufactures seem to making a big effort turning their road bikes into gravel freindly bikes ( big tyes, disc brakes) in addition to gravel stages in tours. Something must be happening..

Aye, it generally means ‘I’ve reached mid 50’s, realised I’m actually pretty shite at this MTB lark, and in my time poor, cash rich life, driving somewhere awesome is really not an option.

Maybe, although for me gravel bikes have genuinely given me a new riding experience.

I do feel that gravel riding is probably the future of road cycling,

With the roads becoming increasingly congested and therefore dangerous more and more people want to get off road, but as you say many will not and may never have the skills to fully enjoy a trail centre, and for whatever reason do not want to ride a MTB.

I love gravel riding, flying down forest roads at 60kph on 35mm tyres and on the drops is thrilling.

Another thing that gravel has taught me is how unpleasant it is to ride a MTB on the road.

That said if l want to go for a true off road adventure ride without having the stress about coming up against terrain where i am clearly underbiked the MTB will always be the right tool for the job

The gravel bike will never truly replace the MTB

Riding the Anthem on mixed terrian, forest roads, very lengthy and techy descending and two marathons this year. Elevation gain around 15,000m average per month since March.

I bought the bike specifically for Marathons and it does brilliantly.

Shortarse 5 ft 8 and on a medium Anthem fits a treat.

The reach on the Anthems does come up long, which i was initially dubious about but it actually works really well and it feels perfectly weighted on the front wheel, the previous (2013) Anthem 29 i had felt light in comparison.

You really have to look at the bikes in person and if possible ride them too. I went into my LBS to initially purchase a Scott Spark, which looks nice if a little long and low for a XC bike. The downtube on the Spark is an oval affair that reminded me a little of an e bike. That same LBS also had the bike that the OP is asking about albeit the 2018 model. The Anthem was an absolute stunner and felt solidly put together too. I went for the Anthem and dont regret it, the bike absolutely flies and i think its better value than the Spark personally.

Thinking of entering the marathon, it says the course is different from the enduro so im guessing it wont be as technical. I only have a 100mm travel XC bike, has anybody ridden the marathon? How techy is it? I have no problem with the elevation gain or distance but dont want to be underbiked on the descents… cheers

The 2019 Canyon exceed 6 pro race is a very nice spec for the money.

As the owner of the 2018 Exceed i can confirm they ride brilliantly, are built well and Canyon are very good to deal with.

A decent suspension fork with a lockout would be the way to go.

I fitted a rigid fork on my HT 29 once but removed it after a few rides, climbing was lovely eveything in between was a chore.

Ive got a SID fork with a handlebar remote, weighs slightly more but sooo much better all round.

Lada Nivas are more durable than any modern crappy SUV and used by mountain rescue, Foresters and Hunters in much of Eastern Europe and Russia in tempratures down to -40 C

Independent lease companies generally get offered a bulk deal from a manufactuer, they then go to market with a very attractive lease deal to generate enough orders to fulfil the commitment to buy in bulk.

They don’t make much profit out of each unit so its vital for them to maximise the order bank.

Overstocking is not the issue, at this time those cars are spreadsheet entries in an office somewhere in the Czech Republic.

Buying from a dealer is a better option as you will have full flexibility on colour and spec, and may be able to choose something from a holding compound which should only take a couple of weeks to come in.
