Sorry to hear some scummer has diddled you.

    However…

I had left it locked on my Thule 891 roof rack in the main car park while I popped into the cafe to get a snack after riding, I didn’t take more than 10-12 minutes and it was gone when I got back. I admit the lock was not the strongest, but this was a planned theft, not an opportunist.

I fear this was the problem (for you, not a problem at all for the thief).

If the insurance won’t pay out it’s an expensive lesson to learn unfortunately.

A mate of mine bent a Superstar seat post after 1 ride, usually I like their stuff, but since the post is the only thing stopping my rectum swallowing the frame, I’d shy away from theirs…

Fell asleep on a Tram that goes past my apartment in Vienna.
After midnight the trams change line. I ended up about 30k from where I was trying to get to at 2 in the morning.

A guy I used to work with went on the smash in London, got on the train with the best intentions of getting off at Didcot Parkway. Woke up at Bristol when the train terminated. Realising he had to be at work (near Didcot) about 6 hours later, the only option he had was a taxi, only cost him a few hundred quid. When he got back to his place, he discovered at some point in all the carnage he’d lost his keys, so went to work early and slept in his office.

Most people would learn after that sort of experience, he’s done a similar thing a few times since then. Absolute animal on the beer!

As for me, I last got completely bungalowed 4 years back, on my 23rd birthday in Wolverhampton. Started power drinking at 5pm, went to Revs at 9, had a few more pints, did some shots, went to the pub across the road (the Royal London seems to ring a bell?) did some more shots, high-fived everyone in the pub, went outside, threw up all over my mates new shoes, fell asleep on the pavement, woke up at 9 the next morning…good times!

Now I very, very rarely touch alcohol. I work too hard to waste my time off feeling like death, I’d rather spend it DHing :)

    hedge porn, proper 70’s style

You found porn in a hedge, or there was some bush action going on in said porn?

Where are you in the world OP? Surely if there’s someone on here who’s local to you they can show you how to do it for cock all?

Why do all the downhillers still use chain devices?

As a downhiller, I run a chain guide cos it works, and there is no point whatsoever in me spunking a load of cash on something I don’t need.

Plus, my 224 makes a row, I don’t want to ruin that by adding a clutch mech to stop chain slap. The noise intimidates people when you’re behind them, people can hear me coming a mile off, and it’s a proven fact that bitches get moist over noisy Orange riders ;)

I’d be properly gutted if my bike was nicked. It’s insured, but I love that bike, I wouldn’t want another one.

On a security note, I find thieves seem to be put off by a dog that would rip their throats out in a heartbeat. Fortunately I have one of those, and he loves to spend all day guarding the house :)

The bouncers were all serious gangsters, proper hard-as-nails career criminals! Into allsorts.

Bertie Basset has a lot to answer for.

    Liquorice. Just say no, kids.

    LOL!!

Some other cracking replies in this thread! Thank you to those who’ve made me chuckle tonight on this downward spiral of a forum.

They all tend to be pretty short in the leg tbh, some brands shorter than others (TLD from experience are very short in the leg). I’m 6ft with a 33″ inside leg and find Royal 24/7 trousers to be a pretty good fit, and near as damn it long enough. I wear fairly chunky pads (Nukeproof Critical) under them too and never have issues on that front either.

Chunky – is spinning as good as folk make out? Is that mostly interval stuff? (spot the guy who’s never tried it)

Glupton – any particular exercises, or just general strength/balance stuff?

    Cheers

Get out and enjoy it, climbing is dull anyway! I’m 6ft, weigh about 75kg with kit and I still suck at riding up hills. Primarily cos I don’t ride enough XC stuff, to improve, but I plod along at my own pace and beast the descents. If you’re enjoying riding then don’t worry about it :)

Fitting spacers is correct with a 73mm BB in a 68mm shell. Make sure they’re positioned correctly depending on if you have a BB mountedchain guide etc.

I highly recommend the Nukeproof Critical armour, very comfy, well fitted and it works! I’ve had lots of crashes with mine on and never had more than a bruise or a scratch afterwards.
