OTB on Tunnel Hill today. One of those deceptive muddy puddles! Front wheel stopped fast and over i went in slow-mo. Pressed the lap button on my Garmin as I went over! Relatively unscathed, just a sore neck. First bloody crash in years! 🙂

Got Fox Float RLC (FIT) 140’s on my Trance X3 and it rides really well. Almost no penalty on the way up and even more capable on the way down. Recommended.

I would say the Trance is a better all rounder than the Anthem. Depends on what sort of riding he wants to do mind.

Take a look at Pauls Cycles. Various Giant Anthems or Trances and 6 months 0%.

Sold my Iphone 4S for £350 a few months back. No problems at all. It’s no different to selling anything else on ebay. You always get planks taking the Michael!!

They are no different to wear than a standard xc helmet yet will protect your face more in a crash. I routinely forget that the chin bar is even there. The “flimsy” chin bar has a metal bar running through it so it’s hardly flimsy. If anyone thinks it is doing the same job as a full face they are clearly mistaken. The helmet will move in a crash but there will be something between your face and the ground as you slide along. I think they are a good idea and there is far more anecdotal evidence of beneficial effects in crashes than there are scare stories such as the one above that gets wheeled out every time they are mentioned!

As Njee said above Pacestar is hardest, Trailstar medium then Vertstar soft. In basic terms hard is faster rolling and less grip, softest is slower rolling but more grip. It’s personal preference what you go for and if you mix and match. Lots of folk prefer hard compound rear and medium or soft up front.

Old stock should be fine it’s just principle if you thought you paid for new stock.

Also just to iron out any confusion. Evo refers to quality of materials used and is Schwalbe’s top of the range tyre. Below that is Performance line and Active line. The star number is the number of compounds (3 being triple) the softness is written in words ie Trailstar , Pacestar etc

    Hope that helps.

Well I ordered one Trailstar about 7 months ago and have one with white boxes on which funnily enough says “Trailstar”!

I think they have tried to fob you off with old stock. I would contact them, explain you didn’t realise the error until you had put gloop in, then see if they’ll offer you a discount on an actual Pacestar. At worst they’ll say no.

Update: conditions were terrible today. It was almost unrideable all the way round to snakebites. Tyres immediately clogged and didn’t clear at all. Very little traction. I have to say it was one of my worst ever rides. So much so we left after one lap (and a baguette!) and drove home to do my local loop at more than double the average speed we managed at QECP. I would leave it alone until much drier. Spoke to a couple of local riders who said they don’t even bother with the west side of the trail when it’s like this. Snakebites and the final descent were great fun. I can see the potential in the dry but as it is – avoid.

Perhaps some of you could set up selfrighteoussharedlanduseworld. It might suit you better. The op has posted about a trap set for bikers on a bike forum (yes that’s what it is) and you berate him for his speed. I despair.

I have upgraded my 2011 Trance X3 from 125mm front to 140mm. Giant did this anyway on their top of the range Trance. It still pedals well with 125 at the back but it is even better on the downs and through the rough stuff.

Yeah. Used it all winter. Obviously not massive coverage but it does a job, it’s very light and can be taken off in seconds. Recommended.

Have a look at “Ass Savers” on ebay. Works well with a reverb as it mounts to your saddle rails.

+1 for Yamaha. I have the YAS101. Was £219 when it came out. Probably cheaper now. Very good for the price. Built in sub woofer so neat and tidy.

Just got a THE Point 5 Helmet. Gets good reviews, lightweight, well made and about £50 on CRC. Tried a Bluegrass which was the same size but hurt my head! Free returns with CRC too. Definitely try a few on mate.

First ever uplift day at Cwmcarn next week. A long weekend doing the 7Stanes near Dumfries at the end of April and the London to Brighton off road in September. Looking forward to the new trails at Swinley opening too.

Couple of mates have the Endura Gridlock. It’s water proof and is a lot of jacket for the money. RRP IS £55 but with vouchers can be had for a lot less. Worth a look.
