So I’ve ordered a shaft of J-Tech. If anyone wants a new original debonair airshaft 29″/120 – 27.5″/140 – 26″/150 the please PM.

Will sell for a much reduced priced, I paid £30.62 fro a German shop.

How long before we can buy the seal head and foot nut in the UK / EU?

Got a debonair air spring in the post and it seem silly to fit the old spec part. Poor timing on my part.

For the rear, I’d go 29×2.6 but faster and lighter keep the grippier DHR/F for the front.

I run 29×3.0 and am sold on the wider tyres. Loads of grip without going knobbly on the tyres. I’m into very technical stuff too.

I could tell between 46mm and 51mm offset on an 120mm Trek original Stache 29er. 68.5deg head angle.

46mm poor at cornering, especially tight uphill.
    51mm really good

Watch old amps where the capacitors dry out. They can be fixed easily by someone who can solder.

The Cyrus two is much better than the one if you afford it.

Depending on where you are in the UK, I’d drive, but I’m on the south coast. I’ve flown and driven. Time you’ve packed, got to the airport, checking in, flown, baggage reclaim, transferred it takes as long as driving. Parking in Morzine is free in the summer IIRC. Most chalets have some parking.

Driving means you can take lots of spares you may or may not need.

End of June is more ofen very wet and the trails are really horrible with zero grip on the soil. Go end of July or August and it’ll be warm and dusty.

Tolls are about €120 total and its about 550miles in France.

Lifts for a week were €112 in 2019, buy a contactless card that can go in an outer rucksack pocket so you bump your way through the turnstiles.

Don’t try and do the PdS route after the PdS weekend, some of the remote lifts will be shut.

Main centres are Morzine, Let Gets, Chatel, and Les Crosets

And it will come with the lower crown race.

Fork steerer diameters are standard, for tapered its 1.5″ at the bottom and 1 1/8″ at the top.

The Hope crown race is usually split, so it should just push on. The old one may need some careful removing if its not split and has been pressed on. Forks usually have a notch to get a lever under the race and start moving it. Mind the paintwork on the crown.

Don’t buy diesel at that age unless you are sure of its heritage.

    Engine issues

I had an 08 one and found the steering didn’t self centre well. However have a 62 plate one now and very pleased.

Ones with a spare wheel the rear tailgate doesn’t open to 90degrees. Mine were XTR with out the spare wheel.

    Ride is firm

There is a walking event that day. No idea of the turnout. It might help with gates or might hinder.

    Linky

I’m at QECP end, by a Friday should be ok with a few sticky spots approaching Cheesefoot and around Meon Fishery.

Post how you get on please.

I had a very nice 26″ Titanium hard tail with XT drive train, good wheels and componentry. It was short and steep (70deg headtube I think). That bike became obsolete after I bought a 29″ Trek Stache which is longer and slacker. After riding the Trek, the Titanium hardfail felt dangerous, every deep rut it felt like the front would dig in and push me over the bars.

Geometry has moved on considerably and that made my Ti hardtail obsolete to me since I did not enjoy it anymore.

Got both the Wolftooth and the ZTT one and they are identical in quality in my opinion. Rode my new one for a long weekend including BPW, no issues whatsoever with the Brand-x seatpost

I ride 29×3 at 15psi. I ride hard and fast with 2foot drops. 20psi was far too hard on 29×3.

Make sure you can prescisely measure the pressure, 1 or 2 psi makes a big difference. A track pump with 160psi guage is barely reading at 15psi.

Happy to help Rob, you certainly kept us on out toes as you went through. Missing you at Jevington was a real surprise given the Alfriston climb.

    Robs finished at 16:14.

4 bars at Alfriston, he was so quick up there that he beat me through Jevington. Max attack up from Jevington saw in in Eastbourne with one bar left.

I’ll create an album rather than post lots of pics.

Rob got to Amberley 1/2 way at 11:05, still 5 bars of battery left. Think the plan is to start using the boost a bit more now. Up Amberley Mount for sure.

Rob went through QECP at 08:19. Already punctured before Milburries, Stans did its job with a tubeless repair slug.

    Battery still on 5 bars.

Did the long route with my friend Rob Colliver, 3hrs50 for the long route. Sideways rain at the west end was not fun, but it brightened and got back just before 1pm, heavens opened soon after so we were lucky.

    Thanks to the organisers.

Excess insurance wont cover you for stoonechips which goldcar and other cheap companies call damage  but insurance call fair wear and tear.  The only option for goldcar is to bite the bullet and pay thier all inclusive insurance.

Been stung by that scenario.  Cost me €250
