Saw this on Saturday. It seems an utterly pointless application of an LLM – it took my activity title & description and regurgitated it back to me using 100 words.

Here’s a video on the space version! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSNtifE0Z2Q

I’d not heard of Caroline Girvan before, but having just watched her 30min workout her swing technique doesn’t seem the best. There’s loads of videos on Youtube – I like Mark Wildman, Dan John, Pat Flynn & Louka Kurcer (and Lebe Stark, although Gregory’s personality grates a bit).

I’m enjoying doing Simple & Sinister, but Pavel’s thing of having only 2 exercises (excluding warmups) for his programmes is a bit odd/limiting so I prefer to add other things too – mainly clean & press and pullups.

Check out Dan John’s Easy Strength for Fat Loss ebook for some ideas.

Booking a specific lane seems an odd system. Surely you pace will (should?) change if you’re doing something other than just plodding through a km or so?

I do try to avoid pools and swim outside when possible; the occasional morning in my local pool reminds me why I dislike them so much!

Another owner of a black dog here. I’ve not been told by other owners that their dog is scared of black dogs before, but do find that she behaves differently depending on the breed of the other dog. Although as she’s gotten older she is less tolerant of any dog now!

I agree with the majority (I think!) – separate summer/winter is the best option if you have the space and especially if you live in the north or travel for work. Proper all-seasons are the best compromise for everyone else!

As a personal anecdote, I met a friend last Thursday for an early morning run from a nearby rural car park. I noticed it looked a bit icy, but drove round & parked up fine. My friend didn’t even make it into the car park, and we spent 20 minutes getting his car out onto the road again. No prizes for guessing who was in a front wheel drive car with all seasons, and who was in a rear wheel drive car with summers!

I’ve found them to be fine – better than SRAM, not that that’s saying much!
Shame I bought another one a couple of weeks ago that’s waiting to be fitted

I’ve driven into Bath a fair few times in the past year, and there’s plenty of signs – both CAZ ahead and at the bondaries. I did accidentally enter once (ironically, I needed fuel but didn’t realise the Sainsbury’s entrance was just inside the perimeter), but it was obvious where the boundary was once I reached it so just paid the same day.

It only targets pre-Euro 6 diesel and pre-Euro 4 petrol vehicles, so seems a good way to improve the terrible air quality in inner city areas. General taxation is too general – this is to target the particular problem of air quality, not the general problem of CO2e.

It’s worrying that you can miss all of the signs and cameras – what else aren’t you seeing?

If they are IP55, they have been tested as protected against dust and low pressure jets of water – so certainly up to a downpour (better than a lot of outdoor lighting, for instance), but not submersion

For speed work & racing, Adidas Terrex Speed Pro have been good, they were less than £65 at sportshoes so you might get lucky.
VJ have the stickiest rubber that I’ve found, so good for the wet roots but expect them to wear quickly on the fire roads. La Sportiva are decent too but most of their shoes are pretty chunky. I’ve used a lot of inov8 in the past but can be a mixed bag – more money spent on advertising and gimmicks than anything useful. Yet to try Scott but have heard good things. Have always found the rubber too hard on Salomon, and many American brands also seem to go for durability over grip – studs makes it worse as there’s less outsole touching the ground.

Another Building Services engineer here – I’d echo what 13thfloormonk said!
On the bright side though there are plenty of jobs at the moment – we’re really struggling with recruitment, especially on the electrical side.

RE British Cycling & Shell – given this is the same organisation that told people to not ride their bikes during the queen’s funeral, and that got in a mess recently around trans athletes, I don’t think they can “read the room” very well

cycliq fly6 here too – very little of my commute is on the road so haven’t gone for a front as the fly12 is too pricy. Works well as a light; I keep expecting the camera to die but still going for now.
Watching back footage of off-road with my son on the weehoo trailer thing has been its main use!

2-4 ‘proper’ coffees per day, plus 1-2 decaff/instant or tea. Seems pretty average looking at other replies.

so apart from a handlebar mount, where would be good?

seems fine in a pack/bum bag – it’s just having your leg between it and the sky that seems to be a problem! Mind you, it’s never as accurate a track as from a Garmin Edge

We went to the Apple store to look at them and the guy there said that she’d need to take her phone with her if she wanted to record runs. Is that right?

Taking an iPhone with you saves a heap of watch battery capacity, as it just uses the phone. It’s very noticable.
It does mean though that you have to think about where you put the phone – riding with it in a hip/back pocket really affects signal so the GPS plot can be all over the place.

I’d probably be in the market for one if it wasn’t for the £849 price tag!

RE the battery life, they said in the presentation that it would be long enough for “most people” to complete an ironman “long distance triathlon”.

As it is, I’ll probably stick with an apple watch for every day use (still on an old S3, will probably upgrade soon) and Suunto for running ultras.

Looks like a pretty old school XC course, I’m surprised they haven’t been able to make it a bit more technical considering what some of the World Cup stages are like nowadays.

Matthew Hornby – 3rd party devices can use the Find My network nowadays, so pretty sure the Knog
Finder does that rather than having an airtag inside it

I’m not sure £1,200 is a good starting price for a hardtail in 2022 – you’d be hard pushed to get something with a dropper post at that level, and everything seems to have gone up by £4-500 in the past 2 years

I still find it off that the doctors gave Myriam the all clear to race at Lourdes.

Also, while the increasing awareness of concussion is good, it’s a shame there’s not a bigger push like there is in other sports (e.g. HEADCASE); thinking especially of Vincent Baestaens at the Cyclocross World Champs as a recent incident.

Yes, looking forward to it although 75km will hurt! I live locally and there was plenty of mud in the woods this morning after the recent rain.

I see the mucoff one that goes on bottle cage mounts uses security torx head bolts. Seems a good idea to slow the thief down slightly. @BeveledEdge might be worth you doing the same?

For an iPhone 11 it’ll be simultaneous long press of the power and volume button to bring up medical ID & emergency contact – assuming they’ve set it up!

I got an Aquaglide Chinook 100, as the Decathon one never seemed to be in stock. It’s got the construction type that the guy in the youtube video doesn’t like, but as I paddle with the dog (and have to haul her back in when she’s jumped into the water!) I wanted a tough outer fabric. It does take ages to dry though.

I’ve been pretty impressed with it, although I have to change my stroke style because of how wide it is compared to a plastic boat. Speed and tracking is fine for what it is, and seem to be less affected by the wind than my wife in a canadian canoe.

Don’t forget you’re meant to be a British Canoeing member or get a C&RT licence to use the canals in England!

I could only listen for a few minutes before switching off. So the entire population of cycle users, from age 5-95, have to fit a transponder so the Audi driver doesn’t run you over? And if you don’t then they’ll have a “get out of jail free card?” What a terrible idea.

I see plenty of people using them on the school run in Bristol when I occasionally go into the office, if I lived in a city I would definitely get one. Tempting to get something similar even though I live in a small town with an annoying school dropoff – 2 miles each way if I’m working from home or 4 miles if I go to the train station, but spend longer faffing around attaching bike trailer etc than riding so usually take the easy option (car)

I’m with Octopus (by choice) and found the opposite – the estimated use is too low and I have manually increased the DD.
Also have SMETS1 smart meters from Solarplicity (before they went bust) and they only work as dumb meters so have to manually provide readings which is annoying, hopefully the DCC will finally roll out the update to let them be migrated.

Several friends had the same issue with eVent coats from Rab, Montane and other makes.

Strangely I was very happy with eVent, no issues with my Rab Latok Alpine and got 10 years of use out of it before it got too leaky (mainly from the seam tape coming away)

I’ve just bought an ME Garwhal – happy with paclite as only intending to use it in proper rain rather than as an all-day jacket. Not used it in any serious conditions yet, but fit is pretty good. Accidentally tried on a different ME jacket that was on the same rack and agree with previous comment, their sizing seems very inconsistent. A bit ‘crinkly’ but I can get used to it.

Hopefully this’ll last better than my previous Pertex Shield+ jacket which despite being 3-layer still delaminated after 5 years of mostly light use (although I did wear it for the Spine Challenger which probably shortened its life somewhat).

If you use the foil-backed sheets, make sure you wear gloves when installing – it’s bloody sharp, especially when cut!

I recently swapped to a pair of Kenda Hellkat in 27.5×2.6, impressed as a good all-round tyre for the steep-ish and mostly off-piste riding I tend to do. Can’t match a shorty in proper mud but more versatile, and rubber compound is good. Quite draggy, but that’s to be expected from this style of tyre.
My other bike has WTB Vigilante in 29×2.5, and again they’ve been great.

I’d suggest training like a climber if you want to improve forearm/grip strength – buy/make a fingerboard if you have somewhere suitable to mount it, but take it steady!
