I believe the North Shore stuff has gone, although it’s a while since I’ve been there. There is a little bmx/pump track next to the skatepark which is fun for half an hour….

Haldon is only half an hour way and is easy to find…

I’ve just been up there and there are posters up advertising it…. Really can’t see them getting much of a turnout at £45 or £50 a head. Very surprised that they are allowed to use the off piste stuff when the FC has actively discouraged this in the past…..

I’m sure I read that Geoff Waugh used the K Edge mounts for the Go Pro stuff in the three peaks video https://vimeo.com/51028192 so I guess they must be ok

Problem solved… Brake lever must have moved slightly cause it was just catching the shifter… next time I shall have a closer look before seeking STW advice!!

Possibly, I’ll maybe try a new gear inner when I get home. Just seemed odd that it just stopped working…. That bike is on commuting duties at the moment so is reasonably clean…

I have the bronze one…. I’m using the matching forks. Very nice, lovely ride. I’m running the BB7 disc brakes and they’re brilliant. Yes there is toe overlap on the medium. Only downside is that it ways a ton (which is probably due to the wheels I have on it)… Doesn’t really bother me for the riding I do on it tho….

Ordered a pair of ultegra wheels from on one yesterday, £220, arrived less than 24 hours later…..

Quite pleased, getting the tyres on was a right sod tho…

Personal Accident (PA) insurance is cheap… for a reason….

Income Protection (IP) Insurance is expensive…. for a reason…..

PA rarely pays out… IP will pay out for a long time if you seriously damage yourself….

Another thumbs up for Freemotion…. I rented a road bike from them when I was there in Feb… Quite reasonably priced and good service…

Take the road bike, some interesting country/coastal roads round those parts, not much for a full susser tho….

If you’re feeling strong try the coast road down past Millook (few miles south of widemouth). The North Cornwall Tor goes through there; it’s steep…

Thanks for the feedback chaps…. Enigma and Mercian look real nice but alas well out of price range… I wasn’t familiar with Soma before so thanks for that suggestion…

I’ve got one and have used it for a variety of off and on road stuff – generally very pleased with it.

I’ve never raced CX… I imagine most CX racers would consider it heavy… Tyre clearance between the rear wheel and the front mech mount is a bit tight if you intend to run anything knobbly…

I’ve got one of the new ones and I’m running 35mm tyres (no mudguards). The rear tyre is a bit close to the front mech clamp…. you wouldn’t want to run anything much bigger or knobblier…

There’s a new american mountainbike magazine called Switchback, I got it in WHSmiths, issue 3 (which I think is the current issue) has an article about riding in the Dolomites… Looks really stunning… From memory I think it suggested there was plenty of riding but perhaps not as much singletrack as you might wish for…

I’m no expert on the area but if you cycle up the Granite Way from Okehampton it will take you up to Meldon Dam. There’s got be some stuff to ride up there on the moor….

They had one in the Bike Shed in Exeter… very pretty… heavier than I thought it would be…. I remember it seeming pricy although I can’t remember what they were charging…..

I’ve got 35mm tyres on mine…. Width wise there’s loads of clearance… it’s quite close to the seat tube… could be a bit tight if you had knobbly tread I reckon…..

Must depend on the stem… mine doesn’t fit on my 60mm stem… it’s been fine on the bars tho (on and off road)….

    DJ,

The blue bit is good fun when it is quiet… Gets busy with families and kids at the weekends though.

    Red run is good fun.

Black run is basically a rough rock garden followed by some berms. The berms used to be really good but have deteriorated over time. it is short….

Thanks SilentSparky, that looks perfect, I ride with my brakes the “wrong” way round anyway so that’s not a problem. Looks like they have some decent kit. i might try and do a day tour with them (if I can clear it with the missus!)

    Cheers

If you struggle to find an insurer try Holmans, they can be good for risks of this nature…
