The section from Kew Bridge down to Putney is nice enough and usually wide enough to be able to share it with the many walkers, runners and dogs. You need to be on the south side. There are some ok places for coffee and cake near Putney. If you need a longer ride then you can pop through to Richmond Park near Barnes.

The nice bits on the north side of the same section are no-cycling with a bunch of self appointed enforcers around to spoil your fun.

Don’t assume that because you declined insurance that you didn’t have PPI. It seems that it can be buried in the product anyway and then PPI sold on top as an extra.

I used an agency to chase it but I wouldn’t recommend using one now that I know a bit about it.

Get your credit history – noddle is good if you’ve used your free month from Experian – and do it yourself.

If you really can’t be bothered to do it yourself at least haggle your rate with the agency.

Austria has a little bit of snow already. You’ll be fine.

Yeah, probably not a great example as it will have a good mix of stuff that is engineer decided and stuff that doesn’t matter.

It’s great. Huge area and there will be snow. Anything specific you need to know?

Have a think about what you want to end up buying. There’s plenty of procurement jobs dealing with aircraft carrier parts but a lot of the interesting work will be handled by engineers (e.g. Supplier selection) whereas with something consumable (e.g. Shampoo for a hotel chain, delivery service contract) you will be doing more.

Also, lack of engineering might limit you at a higher end in later years if you wish to procure technical products. It shouldn’t be a problem now though.

Go to the met office and sign up for general aviation services. Pick an alert service for a suitable airfield and you’ll get an email the evening before. You’ll also get loads of alerts for wind or thunderstorms but not really any more than a couple of emails a day.

isnt Brides Les Bains about a hour gondola ride from the nearest slopes?

It’s about 25 minutes but seems like more because it’s cramped and slow. The real problem is the last download is at 17.00 and you can’t ski all the way down.

I’m not sure that you can buy a PAYG sim. Data is shockingly expensive on your UK plan. Use hotel wifi and take plenty of screenshots of your plans for the day including maps.

Get the app that lets you plan your train journeys and work out what you want and take a screenshot to the ticket office.

The Japanese are incredibly shy about speaking English. Learn to tell them that they are speaking very good English and they will generally continue to do so if they can.

Read ‘road to Hokkaido’. It’s by an American who tracked the cherry blossom and is a very quick and easy look at Japanese culture for a westerner.

There’s any number of bridleways and ways to link them up if you go South Mimms, North Mimms, south of London Colney, north of Shenley and Radlett and then towards Brickett Wood. Basically follow the M25 and have a look at a map. Despite the motorway some of it is actually quite scenic.

I think if you follow the line out you should find somewhere to park on a sidestreet but I would do everything I could to avoid driving there. Parking in Palma is generally a real pain. Note also that the Soller line is slightly removed from the main station.

I don’t know how it’s taken so long but I’ve just discovered 6 o’clock tonic water. This is reviving the not so good gins I have and is well worth looking out for.

I can’t speak for gliding but definitely invest the £20 in the first flying training book, read it and take a trial lesson for an hour. That will be under £200 and if you have any interest is worth it for the experience even if you decide it’s not for you.

If that goes ok and you’re still interested the next milestone is doing your first landing (however badly). That should be somewhere between 5 and 10 hours and you can make a decision on keeping going or stopping at that point having had a good experience of what it’s all about.

I’m part way through mine. I have a lot of thoughts but these are the main ones:

-Go with an experienced instructor who wants you to learn rather than someone who is looking for an airline job and just needs the money.
-really question whether your instructor is teaching you or just sitting beside you and change if necessary
    – the weather will cause delays, accept it’s going to take longer than you expect
-read all the books at least once as quickly as you can as there is plenty of detail hidden in them that will help you
-slightly contentious one but I’d choose a field with crosswind runway options. IMO, it’s probably easier to learn to land and then learn crosswind technique than have a mixture of weather cancellations and crosswind lessons that you’re not really ready for

    edit:
-you will be able to fly to Europe on your PPL. A very common trip is to head for Le Touqet for lunch. It really depends on where you’re based though. Depending where you are might influence your choice of ‘home’ airfield if that’s your aim as you can save a fair bit by not having to fly around London avoiding that airspace.

Get the app called Hopper. It tries to identify the best time to book. I suspect in this case it will just tell you to get on with it.

    Gins to try:

    Butlers
    Mare
    Jensens Old Tom

    Tonic:

Fevertree (using Hendricks and ice it’s practically impossible to make a rubbish G&T)
    1724
    Bermondsey Tonic Water aka BTW
    Capi if in Australia
    Gents

Don’t be afraid to leave the fruit salad out altogether and actually taste the gin. Equally don’t be afraid to mess around and find the right addition for your gin. It’s a highly personal thing but some things just work together. Google for whatever gin you have and give it a try.

Plenty of ice and make sure the tonic is cold.

For a tonic alternative the Fentimans Rose lemonade is really great.

I got caught by the automatic overnight upgrade and I was really annoyed about it. In reality it’s been great and I wish I’d done it much sooner. 2010 Dell laptop, 7 to 10.

There’s a reasonable chance the pilot has chosen the area due to lack of airspace restrictions, lack of major built up area and because no one has complained. Also they are going to be looking for somewhere close to a home airfield rather than burning fuel to get somewhere. Try phoning up your local airfields and if you can figure out who it is just ask them not to use the same place every day.

I stayed in Lauterbrunnen over 10 years ago. Of all the places in Austria and Switzerland + Chamonix this is far and away my favourite. There is no end of stuff to do in what I think is the most picturesque settings. The only negative is that I prefer French food to Swiss.

I don’t really understand where the British Leyland comment comes from. He’s dealt with labour issues through automation and as far as I know they don’t anodise anything brown or beige.

I thought that it was a fairly good manufacturing video and was pleased that for once it wasn’t dumbed down for people that have never seen something being made before. They deserve a lot of credit for finding a way to compete with Asia.

Fly to Munich (loads of flights including very early and late) then pick up a hire car which is a decent operation there and hit Austria (skiwelt) in 1.5 hours of easy motorway driving. If you want to go higher and you probably do if it’s for this season then it’s more like 2.5 hours.

At the moment I’d probably just go to Samoens / Flaine.

The circuit is a public road. I’ve done a few laps but there are more often than not traffic cops hanging around. There’s also a reasonable chance of meeting a kangaroo at the top of the hill.

It’s a real life situation and yes, I’d expect some options to be more attractive but on a completely random basis is what I’d like to know.

I’m kind of embarrassed that I don’t even know where to start.

Are there any bike hire places on the Oaks Fire trail? I will be driving past it but taking bikes isn’t going to happen.
