And if you run your own business get her to do the book keeping and see how easy it is to make sure you get the money rather than an employer

More seriously, get as much work experience between education as she can. It’s invaluable in helping you understand what your choices are and distinguishing herself from a bunch of other freshly qualified graduates. It’s worth more than a well paying summer job in something irrelevant which might pay £3000 over each summer. Compare that to getting a relevant job immediately after uni or struggling in a call centre for a year trying to get something to talk about on your cv or at interview

Give her £200 and tell her to buy some weed and make some money. She’ll learn about cash flow, demand, availability, marketing, scalability and the legal restrictions of running a business.

Catch the emirates airline across to the O2 then get the Tames Clipper service up the river and get off at the London Eye.

For Chinese near the NHM go to Shanghai.

    Get on a Boris Bike.

You can take bikes on some lines at some times. Here’s the map:

The reason I’m suggesting to go on the Wimnbledon branch is because that will be a direct link rather than having to change at Earl’s Court.

Taxi at a guess would be £20-30 for a pre-booked job and more like £40-50 for a black cab.

Get on the district line and get off at East Putney or Putney Bridge. That should get you past most of the traffic / not knowing where you’re going stuff.

Also, check on tfl website there’s no line closures that day.

I’ve gone for the Marathon plus. It’s for the gf to commute so punture proof has the priority over ride. Thanks guys.

I think Mammoth is slightly out of the way. You can combine it with a drive across the Tioga pass coming out of Yosemite but I would probably not bother if i was in the area again.

I need a small but not even sure it’s what i want. I was just starting to research what’s around in terms of carbon / ti frames.

Is anyone in Richmond Park? Is it too busy to take the bike or should I go on foot?

Goldcar rental charge you for a tank of fuel upfront and you return the car empty. Sounds ok if you think you will use a full tank up.

The catch – I got charged €155 for fuel that would have cost €80. 48litres of diesel @ €1.67 locally).

Add to that the hard sell on insurance and I will never use them again.

There’s 3 boris bike stations outside Paddington. No idea of the chances of getting one in the morning though.

Can’t you just use boris bikes when in London?

Another option, go to Elstree & Borehamwood (5 minutes from the A1), parking was £1 on Sunday last time I went there and it’s zone 6 so Oyster compatible. Take the first Capital connect service into London in about 30 minutes. If you haven’t been and don’t have a bunch of kids get off at St Pancras and walk through to see the Olympic Rings.

The premier inn overlooks a massive roundabout. There should be buses going to either station from just beside it but I’d be more inclined to jump in a cab for the sake of £5 and save my energy for London walking

It’s about a mile to Croxley or about 2 to Watford junction. Trains into town can be done in 15 minutes if you pick the right one but the tube will be more like 45 minutes at least from there

    Andy_B

You could go via Croxley tube station on the metropolitan line but I reckon the better option would be taking the bus to Watford Junction and catching the train

You can set it up to send you a text or pretty much whatever level of notification you want.

From the experience gained by drunkenly sleeeping through 38 notifications.

I had the same problem and wanted to leave early so I requested that we discuss it. My old employer ignored the issue till I pointed out that I didn’t need a reference for my new role and would be leaving on receipt of my next payment. We then got together and agreed (I told) what date I would actually finish. If they’d been open to communicating from the start I would probbaly have stayed longer as I would have been able to handle the situation with my new employer better.

The gist of it is that they can only come after you for the financial damage you cause by not working to your contract. The cost of doing this compared to the actual damage they would be able to prove means that they are extremely unlikely to.

In my opinion you’re better off not burning your bridges and leaving on the best possible terms. You never know when your paths will cross again with your former colleagues if you work in the same in the same industry or area.

I used parcel2go.com in the end. Picked up in London on Thursday and delivered in Northern Ireland on Monday for £18. I’m very happy with that.

ok, I’m aware of the stuff surrounding. It’s really where I can go from the front door for an hour after work. Richmond Park sounds promising.

    Thanks

Is it through an agency? If so, ask them to negotiate it on your behalf. Be honest with them about what you want. They’re generally well practiced at this and get paid based on how much you get so will extract the maximum with out risking the offer bein retracted.

If not, an internal promotion is generally 10% so you need to shoot for 15-20% to make the risk worth it.

If you need to move this is completely irrelevant.

    My experience
Not hard to set up your own company but tedious so potentially not worth it for 3 months.
If you’re going to earn about £5K over the higher tax bracket it’s worth doing as your tax bill is essentially 20% instead of 40%.

I use an online portal (can give you a referral if you want) but if I was to start again I’d be more likely to get an accountant I like, understands what I need and can knock up a speadsheet and give me some instruction from time to time. The only bit that seems tricky is deciding whether to go vat registered or not.

Hi all….everything is fairly new. Chain is at 0.5 on the wear tool so I’ll just try cable tension and failing that clean the cable.
I just wondered how little i could get away with.

    Thanks for the advice
