Always used Norfolk Lines with my T5 SWB and then Vito. Never been a problem even with bikes on the back. They always charged me the car rate as both vans were just a nats under 5m in length (both were kombis). Did find it a bit hit and miss on the tolls though.

Sitting in a very damp and soulless press room in Brasil, and just catching up with this thread puts a smile on my face. What will we do when it ends? Someone else will have to take up the mantle.

Mine has arrived from eBay. Mightly impressed…. for the price. It’s no ClassAA, but hooked up to an old pair of Mission 760’s and my iMac, its just dandy! I may get one for the garage now.

Thank you all. I have found some tiny shaving foam cans. Decanting my various other lotions and potions will be a pain but do-able.

A friend of mine has a Seat Alhambra, and when recently trying to get roof bars for it ( to borrow my roofbox) they were told by the dealership, that unless the car was fitted with either the rails or fittings for rails at the time of manufacture, nothing can be fitted. I don’t know if this is the same for the VW model, but sounds like it could be.

If they stood in the showroom pre sale of the car and asked specifically about roof bars, I would think they has a strong case for mis-selling.

We’re on chartered flights and may not even see a normal terminal. But thanks.

Remember, a blanket under is worth two on the top. Really it is!

Big warm jumpers or down jackets for the nightime, oh and pack the ski socks.

Don’t walk round Go Outdoors like it’s Ikea, picking stuff up beacause it’s “only a quid”. You get what you pay for in that place. Fine if its for a single trip to a festival, but if you want camping gear that will last years( as we all do!) don’t skimp.

I have Camping Gaz lamps that are 30 yrs old, and will last another 30. I also have a few very clever solar LEDS that are brill!

+1 for dust pan and brush.

I bought a Sandstom Dock from Currys for my daughter a few months ago. It was about £45 and for the money is surprisingly good. Infact so good we keep asking her to turn it down.

More importantly, when will the ferry companies open up the booking for next year? We tried to book for Feb half term and they’re not available yet. My thinking was book early, get them cheap, but not if you can’t book early!

It will be the first time we are going during the school hols in a long time. Can’t say I’m looking forward to the queues! The last few years we’ve gone the first week of Jan.There is something very special about been the first person down a run in the morning.

    PS

A trip to Decathlon is almost as exciting as the holiday!

    ……I don’t get out much.

Sounds like you need to convert the files to MP4 to view on Ipad (after downloading to a computer) etc. About the rest I’m not sure. I’m away to play with mine. I’ll let you know how I get on.

[Having just been told Scrapheap Challenge is staged (the contraptions are built to H&S standards by expert mechanics off camera) I’m not going to waste my time watching any more of these reality challenges.

Not when I worked on it many moons ago.

But do remember, telly is all smoke and mirrors.

I’ve had one for about 4 months now. I paid £120 for it which I thought was great value, but not as good as the sale price of £80. I would say its as good a down jacket as anything out there under £250! It’s light, very warm, and longer at the back to keep your bum warm!

I’ve held off on replacing an old Rab jacket for about a year now, because I believed there wasn’t anything as well made and tough as that old Expedition. And for sub £300 there aren’t. The Alpkit Filo is £120. It won’t last 12-13 yrs like the jacket it replaced, but no one makes coats like that anymore. It makes no business sense to make a product that lasts forever! And apparently we want lighter jackets, not durable jackets!

Alpkit are a small British company who source good quality outdoor kit from all over the world. They make some of their own products too. I’m impressed with the bits n pieces I’ve had from them over the past 6 months. They listen to feedback and act upon them too.

Sorry, going off a tangent there. The Filo jacket is good. It probably won’t last me 10 yrs , but it was half price of the big name cr*p.

Pah! There you lot are, with your fancy wood piles.

Me. I’m more pallets and skip raiding kind of wood. Throw it down the side of the garage and wait for winter.

It may not be pretty, but I haven’t bought any wood for four years, and I’m going to try and make it five years.

I’ve had my V70 D3 140bhp auto for nearly a year now, and I have to say its excellent, so far. I’ve had it since new and covered nearly 19k. The fuel economy is rising nicely. Average now says 46.9mpg but I easily get mid 50’s on the motorway and well over 700 miles out of a tank. It appears to be very well put together, AND wait for it…………It doesn’t handle like a boat.

But the reason I went for the Volvo over the Mondeo, 5 Series, Audi A6 was the boot. On paper they all are much of a muchness, but in the real world the Volvo just works as a space. It’s a big square hole! all the others have a sloping roof line which cuts the useable space like you wouldn’t believe.

The 2.5 T5’s had terrible problems with the DPF but you can get them programmed out, and get it remapped at the same time.

What ever you pay for either the T4 or T5 you won’t really lose anything on them when you sell.

The reaction of my wife and kids when I return from a few days away.

Getting to the top of the Chevin (big hill near Otley) and still being alive.

Be very wary of British Gas.

We have a Baxi combi (three beds, two bathrooms, no trouble) and after the warranty ran out we got a service plan via BG. The boiler was 3 yrs old when they started coming, and at every service they would condemn the boiler. As the boiler continued to perform perfectly I ignored them, until 2 yrs ago when BG put their prices up dramatically, and I ditched them in favour of Scottish Power. When the SP guy came last year to service the boiler, I mentioned the thoughts of BG, and he laughed and told me the boiler was fine.

If your boiler is dead, don’t use BG, they charge way over the odds.

Yes, I was talking cars, but I did go out on my road bike for the first time yesterday. Lovely day, but bloody hell! the thing needs a service! A winter on the turbo trainer has loosened a few things up.

Heavy frost this morning. I might leave the winters on until Thursday now.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love this forum for prompt and expert (ish) answers.

Yes, I secretly want the 24-105 Canon. I just want your permission. And yes I probably will go full frame eventually. I have a whole load of primes, each for its particular job, but sometimes a day out with the kids requires a bit of everything. I know any zoom is a compromise ( not the Canon 70-200L IS USM mk2 though) but needs must!

I want a general purpose lens with a decent range, like my old one, but sharper, with working AF, and constant aperture. So not much really!
