Just to resurrect this thread, can anyone recommend a “over the bum” length down jacket. Doesn’t have to be waterproof, but sub £300 and down please.

Don’t do the STW way of recommending me a log burning, Skoda Octavia Est with winter tyres!

VW Touran, dull as dish water, but an excellent “family car”.

YEEESSSSSS! Someone has already told the OP to get another car, and it’s the STW favourite Skoda, though not the classic Octavia EST .

60 miles a day for 5 days, on a Chopper, that’s hard. There is not a single person on this forum that could do that with ease, and if you think you can, prove it. Jeez, some people.

I’m also in my 50’s and probably losing my top end, I’ve noticed this recently with my son’s turntable and amp set up, which should “sparkle” but it just doesn’t to me. It’s a bit like watching my 4k telly and not noticing a huge difference in picture between 1080 and 4K, until I put my glasses on!

6.2KW array, 15 panels, 11 on east facing, and 4 on west facing, ( not ideal, I know ) 10KW battery pack. We are now just over two years in and roughly ( very rough ) half paid for. Yes I’d do it again, in a flash.

Pick the model you want, and follow a few on Autotrader for a couple of weeks. All vans are over priced at the mo particularly VW’s, so don’t expect a bargain.

Jeez, I’m sort of in agreement with @molgrips.

This country is in the Sh!t whichever way you look. Socially, financially , infrastructure, health care, education, christ, I could go on and on, and we need a stable platform and govt to at least make a start at fixing this. Rejoining  the EU ( and by God I want to!) would be too much of a distraction to us all, to enable the changes the UK needs right now. Labour needs at least two terms to enact anything of real tangible change, and there is the second Elephant in the room, the fact the majority of people who voted for Brexit, voted on, shall we say , from a casual racist stand point.  Something I feel, we may never get over.

Well you can’t argue with stupid, but it seems we have at least to engage with them.

It’s been good to see Starmer’s recent trips to Europe to maybe start ? who knows what. But I’ll take a positive from that action.

The Killing Fields. It planted the seed in my head that I wanted to work in film. I work in telly now, so nearly, but not quite.

HP all day long, but they are often hard to find. Aldi’s version was quite a good substitute, but they’ve changed the flavour recently so I’m back on Heinz, but I’m not happy.

I believe the GDP numbers were above 100bn per year, the figure of 40bn, is taxes lost to the exchequer . Either way, austerity mk2 surely holds the country back again?

40 odd billion lost to the HMRC every year because of Brexit ( and rising) Why don’t we start there?

The Thule thing looks like a school design challenge, mistakenly put into production. I’d love to know the sales numbers.

That Thule thing, it’s a joke, right? I mean, the lions and tigers can jump straight into that thing! What is the point? And – HOW MUCH?

Has anyone come across YouFibre? They seem to be offering pretty competitive prices in my area but I’ve never heard of them. They don’t use the existing cables, but put their own in ( I assume connecting to the BT box down the road ) which seems a tad odd and costly.

I really don’t understand the comparison to camper vans, surely the nearest comparison is a plain old tent? and a 2 man tent at that. So the economic arguments seen on here don’t stand up, ie, a 20-50k camper, to an over priced roof tent.

Firstly, don’t announce the fact on here. You’re buying a 14 year old van, lower your expectations, and then you won’t be disappointed . There are lots of VW haters, lots of VW lovers, both with valid reasons. A VW Caravelle is an excellent vehicle, as are many other such types, the only difference is you will pay more for a VW, but it will have problems as do the Fords, Renaults etc. Buy it, enjoy it.

Right, I’ve narrowed it down. Nothing bigger than a Golf, and the engine can’t be bigger than 1.2, and group 8 insurance or less. And Euro 6, if possible. All I can see are VAG cars, is there anything else ( I’ve been warned off high mileage Fords )?

He’s self employed, and like me just gets a flat fee for the day, that includes travel, meals , hotels etc. Yep, crap, but that’s the way of the world for many.

Thanks for all the responses, as ever though, insurance seems to be the big stumbling block. A 1Ltr Octavia is group 18 and pretty much all the 1.6 diesels are up there as well. Interestingly a Fabia Est 1ltr is only group 8 so we maybe looking that way.

One thing though, where would you rather be in a bump? A  5 year old Citroen C1 or a similar age Octavia? I ask ,as the Citroen is the classic first car for many kids, and my thinking is something with a bit more protection, ie, a bit more metal.

Def secondhand GoPro, as said 4 and upwards, but I’ve also had an Apecam which was dirt cheap and perfectly fine in good light.

It’s just a “thing” the locals do on a hot summer night around those parts, look it up, every couple of years for as long as I can remember. If it had been raining nothing would have happened, honest.
