Burbage valley main track is now a bridleway. The footpath along the top of Froggatt/Curbar is a concessionary bridleway and you can link these via the new Longshaw bridleway.

On return leg there you could take the new bridleway from B6054 that hits the access track to the old Barbrook reservoir and pops out over the road from Ramsley reservoir on the A621.

Had a really good trip with Ride Slovenia last year. Great riding and guiding from John, quiet trails, very cheap beer, lovely pizza and ice cream.

Also had 2 really good trips with Ride Sierra Nevada. Loads of great trails, lovely quiet village – Monachil, excellent guiding from Shaun and co, amazing sandwiches from Czilla!

Both have some uplift and some pedalling – a good mix.

Definitely in one piece! – very kind of you to let me test it – really good to have a go on it.

Switched to plusnet after a long while with BT, significantly cheaper, fairly smooth changeover (apart from plusnet taking over line independently rather than asking for a MAC code and BT trying to charge for this).

Speed is possibly a little slower but don’t tend to use it for really high speed stuff – BBC Iplayer fine.

(as above though, will be same lines and may not solve problem if a distance/exchange thing)

Had a really good trip last year with Ride Slovenia. Loads of wooded singletrack, higher stuff up on the tops with great views and some uplift via van and ski lifts but also plenty of uphill too.

Excellent guiding from John and lovely accomodation.

MUch quieter than French ALps, very picturesque and cheap beer and great ice cream.

If you like sci fi stuff the relatively recent Battlestar Galactica 2004-2008ish was pretty good, much darker/grittier than the cheesy 1970’s version.

Have had 2 really good trips with ride sierra Nevada – in hills above Granada. Real range of riding, up to the mountains and ski resort at the top, with really technical steep rocky stuff, downhill tracks and jumps in the woods, smoother singletrack and great views.

I’m just under 6 foot and have a medium, sometimes wonder if I should have gone for the large one.

Mine took about 4 days around a month ago. My Dad just changed his and took about a week.

Definitely looks modified, the slightly different coloured green block at the same level as the blue arrow normally has a white horse, bike and walker on.

We paid £475 (all mountain rather than downhill package), plus flights, we flew from Luton on WIzz air, who were actually OK – was expecting disaster! Beer/coffee/food out pretty cheap – pint of beer in a pub 2ish euro coffee 1 euro and amazing ice creams for 1 euro.

Transfer was less than an hour from Ljubljana (sp?) and think easy jet also fly into there.

I was there last monday – signs up said black closed (entire loop) due to tree felling and they were hoping to open it by late July. Red seemed fully open.

If it’s anything like the more cross country kona full suss bikes the pivot has a short aluminium tube which sits inside 2 black nylon top hat bushings which press fit into either side of the chainstay. These wear out fairly quickly but are quite easy to pop out and replace.

Had a very good holiday at end of September with Ride Sierra Nevada. About the right amount of uplift but still plenty of climbing so you felt you were doing a proper days riding. Some lovely interesting singletrack. Accomodation good too.

If the new stem is not as tall as the old one (height of section clamping the steerer) you may also need an extra spacer, but otherwise sounds like not tightening top cap bolt first to preload bearings.

Always been very good when I’ve ordered from them over the last few years.

Got back a couple of weeks ago – had a really got week. Chris who guided for us was excellent and very good at catering for a mixed ability group and finding something everyone seems to enjoy (or tolerate at least…..)

Spare pads and tyres sensible, as is checking nothings woked loose with all the descending – I lost a brake caliper bolt and managed to pull hose out after losing it. Made for an interesting half day with just a front brake – on the long day trip.

We did a day trip 9-6.30pm ish out towards Courcheval direction up Mt Jovet. Then an amazing long descent through alpine meadows and the woods below – one of the best days.

I took knee and elbow pads but only ended up using the knees, we were a bit more XC than some of the other guys out there.

Have a good trip

If you want something easily accessible from the M6 on the way to Scotland then something into Kentmere starting at Stavely could be a good plan (especially with Wilf's cafe).

Good downhills from Garburn pass, Nan Bield, Gatesgarth and Sadgill at the North end of Kentmere.

If you can head North a bit something round Ambergate/ Matlock would be more exciting. WHen I used to live in Derby my local loop was Mackworth / Kirk Langley / Brailsford direction to the North West.

Not super technical but nice rolling countryside and a few more interesting bits.

I'm just under 6' (30" inside leg – short!) and have spent the last 3 months coming to the conclusion that the large Rush I've bought is just a bit too big for me, which is pretty annoying.

Looks like I'm heading towards a swap / grtting something else!

It did actually use to be much better before they did all the tree clearance about ~7-8 years ago. Now the section you describe is much more fun heading North towards Skelwith Bridge and hitting the road.

EBC was a bit of a let down, seemed pretty poorly stocked and prices very much on the high side, plus thanks to my general incompetence took me about 5 minutes of faffing on the 1 way system to make it into the carpark!

I was coming to the same conclusion, but they're classics, 9 years old too, my first discs as well!

Currently seeping fluid from the lever, which has as much vertical play as the distance it moves when you pull to put the brake on.

I seem to remember from when they switched over to the mini lever they changed the piston size/volumes as the lever put outr a different amount of fluid and so weren't compatible.

I've still got a set of E4's lovely brakes, but very poorly now and a bit heavy, debating on whether to pay to resurrect them or not – new rotors/seals/hoses/pads…..

Hi,
pointy arrow to the classifieds I'd presume, to save you the bother I'll have it assuming the rise is something less than 10 degrees.

Can paypal / balance transfer / collect if in Sheffield

Thanks

I was on top of High Street yesteday – was definitely on the chilly side. I had 3 coats and 2 sets of gloves on at one point and popped shorts over tights and I don't normally feel the cold much.

Merlin have deore octalink 1 cranks in stock. The arms I think were pretty much the same as LX / XT, but with the latter 2 having better rings.

I foolishly did that descent as a climb last year when I was up on Skye, rest of the ride had no descents like that would have been – ah well!

Definitely agree about the bog, also found the path very vague in some bits.

I parked at the end of Loch Duich, up the good descent, then doubled back at the Youth hostel and returned via Gleann Lichd. Lovely scenery.

Lots of riding. Could do 1 day heading North and doing a Garburn/Kentmere/Longseddale/High Borrans/Jenkin Crag/Ambleside then loop back to Windermere via Troutbeck again. Can be lengthened or shortened as required.

The next day you could whiz down to Bowness, ferry across Lake (£1 ish) then do Sawrey/Claife Heights and the natural stuff round Grizedale, then either ride back over the North end of Windermere lake / Loughrigg stuff or ferry back.

Good rest of ride thanks Will, dropped down to Coldwell clough, over Roych to Rushup, then Mam Tor, Edale, Jaggers and back to Hope.

Cavedale got meddled with a few years ago at the top, all the rock gardens on the flatter upper section got moved to the side, thankfully the bottom bit is still all a bit exciting.

Think I saw you guys last weekend – grovelled up the climb and chatted at Edale cross with you. Was on the blue and white Kona.

Glad you had a good rest of ride.

Got the pro Mono – Mini too with carbon and Ti bling! COuple of XT cassettes, PC59 chain, XTR cable, XT shifters and mech – all great condition.

Got some SIDI's too, not really smelly – couple of spots of silt – bargaintastic – Thanks for notice.

Oh and 10 tubes for £1.50, should keep me going a while.

Sheffield workshop guys have always been very good to me and my poorly Kona frame. They do have some good deals on some items but what’s stocked can be a bit eccentric at times.

I rode it from N to S as part of a C2C ride about 18 months ago, very rideable until the lodge, then loads of “narrow path, drainage ditch” type bits, then gets quite vague until the summit.

Top of downhill was good, very rocky, fair few unrideable bits, though that could have been the combo of weariness from riding from Blair Atholl that day and the hardtail already having a few too many snakebites….

Then much more laid back once you get towards the plantations.

Glen Clova hotel has a good bunkhouse and does a super breakfast!

Lovely day out, will be a bit of push / carry.
