    Happy Birthday @scotroutes

Condolences on DIY @thestabiliser I have pretty much finished months of faffing with bedrooms, wallpaper and woodwork / coving stripping, fireplace fitting, skirting board replacement, floor sanding and painting.

HAve been out on the bike this morning and we seem to have the sun with us .

    a lovely tree

    Burbage one way

    Burbage the other way

Loop out to Blacka Moor, Houndkirk, Burbage then back down Blacka Moor and through the woods to home.
MAde it to the climbing works this evening.

Perhaps makes up for yesterday – a lot of walking (11 miles) but I am not sure if it counts as it was between various Manchester pubs……

Good to see and hear what everyone else is up to

That’s more like it for late November!

We had a hint of blue sky yesterday.

Better again today but may struggle to get out in the light.

Still getting out, weather definitely changed over the last week or two, feels a lot wetter and colder. I think we did well with a long tail end of a fairly dry warm Autumn up till now.

Been getting out on the bike, some walks and slightly faster ambles. Trying to get out bouldering once a week too.

A very grey but nice ride on Sunday out to Stanage via Burbage:

Good to see everyone else getting out. It always seems suspiciously sunny in Aviemore.

I did it years ago on a pair of old marzocchis, marathon coils I think.

That was mainly using the power of bodge. I am not sure I would try on a very modern pair of forks as everything seems a bit less industrial and forgiving now.

Belated update. Glad to see everyone getting out and about, some lovely photos above.

Have managed to do something every day, recently quite a few walks, but have been off to the climbing wall and getting some rides in too.

After further DIY managed to get out towards holmesfield and then back over big moor and totley moss.

I enjoyed it but found it quite a hard watch in places.

Overall I also would prefer to watch In Bruges or The Guard.

Ride yesterday out towards Rivelin. Was going to go a bit further and extend over Stanage but feeling less full of beans and the rain came in.

A walk today, hopefully get out on the bike again tomorrow.

    Nice photos above.

Good effort by Stanley – pacing things seems a good plan.

I have got out on the bike a bit this week, yesterday helped with some digging and rock moving for Ride SHeffield on Blackamoor to help water run off on Devil’s ELbow. Managed to test ride it today. HAve also fitted in some walking and a trot:

Johhny Gate climb and then Barbrook settling pond on Monday

Been fitting in something everyday. Have been busy with work and DIY so a fair few walks. Wednesday was some digging for trail repairs and managed to get out and test ride yesterday. Run this evening after an afternoon of floorboard fettling (well more whittling)

Good to see everyone else is getting up to stuff.

Last day in the Lakes, ran yesterday after Ambleside shopping and cafe as it was pouring. Really clear air today.

Still up in the Lakes, very misty with low cloud which lifted as the ride went on.

Other half was reccying a fell run so I rode out to retrieve the car – via high street and Ullswater single-track. I definitely need an easier day tomorrow!

Good to hear what everyone else is getting up to.

Ride out after yet more painting and before work.

    Mermaid on the moor

I’m no marine biologist but I’m not entirely sure the moorland environement is the natural habitat of this creature.

Last year it was pretty informal, it’s up to you how you want to log stuff.

I had bits on Strava that would have gone on anyway, other bits like a walk, climb etc I just remembered. We updated eachother on here and tried to encourage everyone, and all remained jealous of scotroutes photos.

I’ll do it again this year. It will give me more reasons to escape the DIY abyss.

Plus we have gained a set of gloves on the climb to styhead, they are not with me but can arrange to post them out if you have lost them – just confirm colour / brand.

We had a really good weekend, got home a couple of hours ago. Styhead to Wasdale was definitely hard work but there were lots of great bits – one our first day the Kentmere sttuff, some sketchy steep bits above pooley bridge, the loop up from Threlkeld and back to Keswick.

On the second day we started from Wasdale and the 2nd half of the descent into Boot is great, then more nice stuff toward Elterwater & Loughrigg and the climbs and final bits in Kentmere.

I was on a Solaris with my other half on her Cube and our friend on her Soul. I was basically dragged round it by them – certainly on the climbs as the trip went on! Pizza at More the evening before was good and tasty Kirby Lonsdale beer at the site (thank you)

Lots of lovely people to chat to and thanks again to Rich for organizing (and booking the good weather).

I’ve repaired a pulled through spoke hole (where the nipple came right through the rim) on a carbon rim using carbon weave and epoxy that came from a fishing rod repair kit. Has lasted around 2 years of peak District riding on a hardtail. I think a proper crack might be hard to do successfully.

So what happens when all these buyers don’t have the resources to pay for these expensive houses anymore due to businesses collapsing and people losing their jobs. We have just come out of a pandemic with mass money printing which is going to have disastrous effects on economies all over the world.

Please explain to me where all this money will come from?

My long lost Nigerian cousin who has just e-mailed me with a very tempting offer?

Yes the Valais is very expensive for what it is. I still end up protecting the dropper with a bit of duct tape as well as the strap on my saddle pa k often wants to slip off the Valais and onto the dropper shaft.

I contacted them using the form on the website about sizing. They were helpful, but I am still dithering. One thing is to make sure it is your inner leg measurement rather than your inseam you are entering into the calculator.

I’ve used a bodged combination of a wolftooth Valais and an alpkit exorail along with a wildcat bag so I can still have a bit of drop and a reasonable capacity. There are almost certainly neater looking solutions.

How tall are you Benji, I quite like the look of this bike and tend to ride large frames but the canyon calculator puts me at a medium?

    Thank you

I think loose bolts too, I had the same with my first ever discs 20ish years ago, a hope hub had got down to two bolts due to me not having tightened them properly. One ripped out of the disc mount eventually, took a chunk out of the bulge with the thread in and killed the ride. Still used the hub for years after with 5 well tightened and threadlocked bolts.

I got mine about 2 1/2 years ago. Changed seat post and saddle. Has been used for commuting, trips on lanes, tow paths and light off road stuff. Has behaved very well, the stock wheels and tyres are a bit heavy but considering it was 1400 when I got it I can’t complain.

The only trouble I’ve had is replacing cables on the SRAM shifters which are a terrible design.

I’m very happy I got it.
