TFFT, Gee Atherton Isn’t In The 2024 Red Bull Rampage Men’s Lineup

It started way back because using a much bigger front wheel meant that you would go further for each turn of the pedals, the little wheel at the back was just for stability. And then someone invented chain-drive and you could have equal sized wheels, and sit between them rather than perching on top of the massive front wheel and they just took over
3andrewhFree MemberRussia is expelling some British diplomats, which the media are linking to the Starman/Biden meeting later today to discuss which weapons can be used inside Russia.
If that’s the level of response we get we’ll be fine
andrewhFree MemberMcLaren have lost titles before because the drivers have been taking points off each other, 2007 springs to mind. I’m pretty sure Hamilton and Alonso were both good enough
Actually , just to add to my earlier point. Raikenen was given preference over Massa in the latter stages of the season, much as Norris is now (a couple of races too late IMO) but the following year the boot was on the foot, McLaren may likewise swap next year if Piastri is in a position to challenge and Norris isn’t.
I can kind of see why they did what they did in 2007, both drivers were in with a shout so give them equal chances. This was fine in, for instance, 1988, where there was no one from another team in contention, and equality was fine last year when neither driver had much of a chance of a title, but this year is different. I know Oscar could still win it this year, but it’s definitely time to start piling eggs into Norris’s basket.
andrewhFree MemberI’ve got some Fox and some Endura.
The Fox seems warmer, especially when wet
However, the Endura has a much better closer, the Fox one is a nightmare to open with gloves/frozen hands/if it gets a lot of mud in it, and the Endura has better leg length.
Overall I prefer the Endura, the extra warmth of the Fox is outweighed by it letting more water into my boots. Although I’ve just bought some calf length 45Nrth boots which might solve this.
andrewhFree MemberI had one jump out at me about twenty years ago, I was riding at Swinley, right up at the boundary of whatever that army land is next to it. I could hear a helicopter pretty loud and then it came up out of an old quarry or something to just above the trees in front of me. They look pretty intimidating close up! Not entirely sure I should have been that close TBH…
2andrewhFree MemberIf he wasn’t good enough he wouldn’t be in a position where it would make a difference.

5andrewhFree MemberSo you can push the cake out from underneath once it’s baked.
edit: Oh wait it’s a saucepan!!!
It’s for pancakes
andrewhFree MemberRode one years ago. I’d heard good things about them so was expecting it to be fine performance wise, but was expecting it to distracting, looking down and seeing half the fork gone, even subconsciously.
Never even noticed it. I’d happily have one. Mud clearance is excellent too
andrewhFree MemberThe pilot is below the parachute, if you zoom in you can see the pilot chute at the top. And the tractor driver could have been watching before the pilot ejected.
But the plane does appear to be a lot closer to the camera, and better defined, than the pilot. And if it was on that trajectory you wouldn’t wait until it was that close to the ground to eject!
Still, probably a bit more convincing than the flying machine I posted…
Just read that back, pilot, parachute, and pilot chute in the same sentence is not at all confusing.
6andrewhFree MemberEscort, Fiesta or Razzle”
Sounds like 80’s Fords. Razzle STI might not have sold well…
There was the Ford Probe too, that sounds like it could have been one
And of course the Ford Pubic (which was made out of old Corsairs)
andrewhFree MemberI love F1, I’ve been watching for years and years and find the whole thing fascinating.
But I can’t help feeling that a talent like his, or Ross Brawn or John Barnard or whoever, is wasted just making cars go a bit faster round a track. What could they achieve at somewhere like NASA or Lockheed Martin? No doubt their own people are very, very good but adding a Newey to the mix won’t do any harm.
andrewhFree MemberHe’s been at it since the the late 80s. He’s 27 race wins behind Ferrari, who have been doing it nearly 40 more years.
andrewhFree MemberNot trying to be awkward here but what is the advantage of this?
I have a 12V Dirtworker and it’s brilliant, runs off the power supply in the van. If I’m parked near a river then it’s practically unlimited in its bike washing potential.
I’ve seen a lot of battery ones like this about but they strike me as very limited, especially if you are trying to do a few bikes or use over a few days. They are more portable than a 12V one, not needing to plug in, but the size of them means you aren’t going to be using them anywhere you don’t have your van surely? And if you are recharging batteries in the van you might just as well plug the washer itself in.
What’s the advantage of these, why are they so popular?
andrewhFree MemberCondition varies massively with vans, knackered builder’s van or mega-miles courier van to rarely used bike transporter. You don’t seem to get the same variation with cars so age/miles seems to correlate more to price with them than it does with vans
1andrewhFree MemberThis is part of painting from 1350 which hangs above the altar at the Visoki Decani Monestary in Kosovo. Is it a medeival UFO?
andrewhFree MemberConsensus of ‘no’ so far.
So what is ‘weather’ then? Is it just air moving about, winds, and precipitation, rain, snow, fog?
The Northern Lights aren’t the Northern Lights until the solar winds get here and interact with our atmosphere, is that different to the heat from the sun causing the air to move, making winds? Sunny is a kind of weather, and that’s just solar emmissions too.
andrewhFree MemberI’ve made another one and it’s worked. I didn’t do anything different.
FWIW I think google has mostly answered the plantpot question, diamond drill bits
andrewhFree MemberAccording to the GSA website the following are excluded from the cost cap calculations
Driver salaries
Compensation for the three highest-paid staff members
Travel expenses
Marketing expenditures
Property and legal costs
Entry and license fees
Activities unrelated to F1 or road cars
Parental and sick leave payments
Employee bonuses and staff medical benefits
.
However, with, for example, most staff salaries being within it and bonuses excluded, transportation being within in but travel excluded, you can bet the lawyers and accountants are as much at the top of their game as the designers are, arguing the case to exclude as much as possible. (See the RB overspend on sandwiches in 2021…)
andrewhFree MemberWhere’s it coming off, at the front or the back? Or just slipping a lot?
andrewhFree MemberMaybe I meant to write that in the Newey thread, reading two at once is getting confusing
2andrewhFree MemberIn terms of qualifying times, in 2024 up to Canada, the gaps between the teammates are
Stroll has done ok compared to Alonso on that, and he’s a decent benchmark. As someone said above he’s never going to be a world champion, but I don’t think he’s as bad as people make out, yes he’s a ‘pay-driver’ but that doesn’t automatically equal terrible, he’s a reasonable midfield runner.
andrewhFree MemberI just tried to start a new topic in the chat forum. Mobile telephone, Android, but it didn’t appear.
Tried again on the laptop, Windows 10/Firefox and it still didn’t appear.
They were the ones about drilling holes in plant pots. I can reply to existing posts absolutely fine
andrewhFree Membertheres a really good animation of european borders moving over the past 1000 years
It’s amazing how stable Britain has been compared to almost everywhere else.
andrewhFree MemberKing of the tiny nippy car class has got to be the Yaris GR
6R4 surely? Equally as tiny, a lot more nippy.
andrewhFree MemberDepends what Laurence Stroll is trying to achieve. I don’t think he needs sales
Newey’s salary will be excluded from the cost cap (three highest paid staff plus drivers are excluded, I’m pretty sure he’ll be in the top three) so no opportunity-cost of not spending the money elsewhere. If the money is available then why not hire him?
andrewhFree MemberDirk Gently might be a little more niche than HHGTTG
Although most of us on here appear to have got it
andrewhFree MemberHad a trapped nerve in my neck back in 2010, lasted about three months. Properly painful, and occasionally immobilising.
The doctor was useless, basically just gave me some painkillers (codine, which sent my brain funny) and sent me away again. Physio and chiropractor couldn’t help, although at least tried harder. The only person who gives temporary relief was the girl at the gym who did the massages. It eventually freed itself suddenly (and painfully, albeit it with massive relief) My best advice is keep moving as much as you can, try to get it freed up
andrewhFree MemberLots of bikes and bike bits
Imperial spanner set
Hose clip tools
Chainsaw
Orbital sander
Quite a few maps
A pair of running shoes
Front bumper for a Transit
A table leg
Crow foot spanner set
A large roll of black and white stripy fabric
andrewhFree MemberI’ve been using mostly sycamore and beech and they’ve been great.
Gathered in April/May and put in the woodshed until I start using it in about November they are plenty dry enough, I know people say a year but it seems to work for me. Still loads of storm damage round here to clean up after Arwen, and some more recent ones, so it’s been down a while before I get to it, which helps.
andrewhFree MemberMight need a bit of air in that tyre!
Not a lot though, it’s only flat at the bottom
2andrewhFree MemberBased on my experiences of how helpful they are to deal with I’d take the Cotic over the Pace every time.
1andrewhFree MemberI’m having as much luck with links as I do with pictures
Same thing, different shop

‘Oh. I thought Paddington was mostly fictional?”
andrewhFree MemberThe battery should be 12.? with the engine off, and 14.? with the engine on. If it’s the same with the engine on and off it’ll be the alternator (and/or connections to it), easy thing to check.
I’ve got a gadget which you plug into the fuse box, take a fuse out plug it into that hole, then try the next, etc, etc, this tells you if a circuit is drawing current when you think nothing is on. A cheap and very useful tool, but I can’t remember what it’s called. Also, on my van, I don’t know about other cars, there is a special ‘hidden’ fuse box, there’s one in the engine bay, one behind the glove box and one behind the one behind the glove box, took me ages to find that, and that’s of course where the blown fuse was, everything else was good.
andrewhFree MemberI’m 5’11” and ride a medium MK1 Solaris. Also a medium Escapade and X. My Rocket (29 version) is a large because I wanted the extra reach but I’m wondering if I should have stuck with a medium because there’s next to no standover on the large for me. 70mm stem on the first three, 50mm on the Rocket
andrewhFree MemberThere’s quite a few of these within budget
Much classier than an M5. A bit thirsty but if you aren’t doing big miles it doesn’t really matter that much
