    Toe straps.

Ride in your running shoes, save time in changeovers. The pro-tri people can change shoes very quickly but the rest of will save time by not having to do it.

Man in my village wanted to build a bungalow 20 years ago, planning permission refused as it was the site of the old village pond and the council said his house would flood. He built his bungalow somewhere else.
15 years later the local farmer gave the planning officer a large brown envelope and permission was duely granted for the farmer's son to build his house on the site.
It has flooded every year since. :-)

Although either my local hospital or the questionaire has it wrong!

You can attend a hospital without a GP's letter only in the case of an emergency True/False

They say true, but when living up in Fife I wasn't registered with a local GP and used A+E twice, fractured kneecap and infected wound, neither an emergancy as I had left them both for over a week before I went to get them looked at to see if they would go away on their own…

I used a cycle lane once. I hit a van, so haven't used one since…

I use a rigid steel Claude Butler MTB, converted to singlespeed, with Magura rim-brakes and reasonable wheels (Deore/221).
Only maintenance required so far this year, around 4K miles I recon, is new brake pads and an oil of the chain. I've not even cleaned it other than a wipe of the braking surfaces on the rims, makes it less attractive to would-be theives.

Perfect comuter. Not the fastest but I'm not scared to leave it in town.

    Oil filter wrench £5. Cheapo chain-whip £19.99. Posh chain-whip £loads

Both work well on 9 and 10 speeds. Bought the chain-whip ages ago, then the wrench some time later. Only tried it as an experiment to see if works, and it does. Could have saved a bit if I'd known.

    Bo'ness.

Not all of it is boarded up. Some of it has been burnt down instead.

Interesting Fettler, is that a compulsary MOT-type test or a manufacture-recomends-you-check-it-to-cover-themselves type of test? Not come accross that one before.

Looking a bit more positive now, thanks guys.
Tunnel shouldn't be an issue, no intention of trying to use it. In the unlikely event I qualify to race world cups this season I can use the ferry. Also, I never use multi-storeys so unlikely to be a parking issue, but worth knowing just in case.
It runs on petrol and LPG. No probs getting LPG where I live but I travel to north Scotland and Snowdonia regularly and it's not always easy to get there.

5thElephant, thanks for advice about the manifold and the valve. Also, I didn't know about them running hotter, seems to be a consensus about that. Think it be worth fitting bigger fans for the radiator? Or would the radiator have ben upgraded as part of the installation?

    Cheers
    Andy

One out of one, that would appear to be a unanimous 'no'.

Found a normal petrol one in budget. Will just have to slow down a bit to save the fuel…

Not sure about cards but I've just bought a rim via bank transfer in US$. Very simple, sent it as gift to avoid the fees, just type in the number as usual and then select the currency. Job done. Can't image a card would be much different. Not a great exchange rate though.

Couple of years ago had a torn tendon in knee, could barely walk for a bit. No blue badge obviously, but technically and temporarily dis-abled. Was I within my rights to use disabled bays? (generally closer to whatever it was I was going to and so minimised my very painful hobling)
I suspect getting Fife council to give me a special badge would have taken longer than it took said injury to heal.
Used the bays a few times, was prepared to argue with traffic wardens but never needed to. Just felt such a prat driving less than 2 miles, on one occasion less than half a mile.

I have Saracen, Raleigh, another Raleigh (frame, needs building again), Marin, Claude Butler, all quite uncool but really like them all.
Have Yeti, Coppi and Rondelli to regain some street cred.
Also have no space in garage and other half who thinks getting a cross bike is a bad idea. Tempted by a Dawes to complete to the line up of uncool bikes…

Whilst at the LBS get them to put your frame in jig if they have one, check the hanger is still straight. Was it working OK with your previous mech? If that died a spectacular death did it damage the hanger at all?

I've got one of the magnesium Killis, 2004 I think. Silly light (lighter than carbon Trek 9.8) but a bit harsh and BB very low. Bought the frame NOS in 2006 for £40 so can't complain… Nice bike and never given me any trouble. Painted it myself in VW black touch-up paint so doesn't Saracen anywhere on it, people always ask and look surprised when I tell them.

Why would he leave them in the wheely bin if someone had signed for them? Little bit inconsistant of him. How do you know they were in the wheely bin? If it was because he told you then he has just contradicted himself about someone having signed for them.
As was mentioned above, if postie signed himself then it is fraud, pursue it.

Don't want to hijack the thread but I am still chasing a complaint against a parcel force driver. He nearly ran me over when I was out running, I tapped on the side of the van to show my displeasure, cue much shouting and threatening followed by him chasing me in the van and repeating. Not heard from them for a while, should I just take it to the police?

No pics to hand, but be careful which pimer you use. If bare metal go for an etch primer. I didn't, but will next time….

Used to go to university with someone called Knight (surname)
After passing his PHD he of course became Dr Knight, and used to introduce himself as such, followed by the evil laugh, which he could do really well.

Raynauds won't stop you giving blood, there is nothing wrong with the blood of those who have it. However, it does give you slightly narrower veins. Everyone's veins contract when they get they get cold, but if start with narrower than normal ones it can get quite painful. I have a mild case of it and like you I have as yet found no answer. Going to try some gloves with electric heating element this winter and hope they still work in the rain…

    R-reg diesel Mondeo.

It was all I could afford at the time that would carry bikes well, decent on motorsway and reasonable mpg. Rear seats live in the garage, will take 5 bikes with just wheels and seatposts out and two people. Couldn't afford the estate. Now done 135K, 40 of them with me, lasted longer than the other three I've had put together. Shame it's woefully slow, used to drive a diesel Landy and they are about the same speed, overtaking is a big adventure.

Wnat one like Cranberry's next, ideally a V8 with an LPG conversion. Can fit bed and bikes in that.

    What Steve said.

Used to work for them. Try to cancel, they will start with small offer (probably free engineer visit to fix it or 6mnths half price) and work up. Keep saying 'no I want to cancel my subscription' until they get to the level you are after. Maybe only try it once a year though.

Have you time enough to grow a beard? Needs planning week or so in advance so might not work if it's tomorrow night. Grew one when i was your age and never got ID'd again. (that wasn't the reason, just down to lazyness)

And yes, I do have a Marin to go with the beard.

    I've done it.

34 ring in middle ring position, did need shorter chainring bolts purchased.
    I run 34/13 but mostly road/comuting duties.
Yes, a doddle if you have kept all the plastic spacers from cassettes you have worn out over the years.
Easy, just move the spacers around.
I used an old rear mech as a tensioner, move the limit screws around until it's in the right place. Also means it doesn't look like a singlespeed so no danger of me looking fashionable.

Old fabric softner bottle full of petrol. Place chain in it, shake vigerously. Remove with old spoke, now in suitable hook shape.

Get it nearly right by just looking, then ride, adjust, ride, adjust, ride, adjust etc etc. All bikes are spot on. Car steering wheel pulls left though.

Really easy courses, deffinately suitable for beginners. Gorricks are good fun too. Try the fun or open cat for your first race, and look at your lap times to see what to go for next year.

Just spent 7 months wages on new race-bike..

20% on rent and food, everything else is really bike related, only run a car so I can travel to races, rarely use it for anything else. Car was cheaper to buy than rear hub on aformentioned bike, but spend around 25% of income on diesel, + MOT + Insurance + needs new timing belt etc. All other sports stuff is just cross-training.
Honestly can't think of the last time I spent more than a fiver on myself that wasn't bike related.

    I may be slightly obsessed.

Go for full sus everywhere except the Strathpuffer, SS hardtail there just for reliability.
However many bikes you have, take them all to whichever race you do, and every spare wheel, drivetrain, brakepad, disc you have and every peice of riding kit you own. Borrow more riding kit and take that too. Being this well prepared means nothing will go wrong and you won't need any of it.

Another vote for EBC, I've been racing on a set of red compounds all year, still on my first set. And that's supposedly the compound which wears the fastest…
