EDIT. Meant to say 'wouldn't' above, not 'would.' Hope you have not followed my advice…

Just got a wheel (very well) built for £15, took them a pile of bits. Did a much better job than I could have done.

DT Aerolite. Now THAT'S an expensive spoke. Thankfully I've not gone for the white ones!

DOT 4 and DOT 5 are interchangable, would try the Shimano stuff though.

Know of someone who used water as a trail-side bodge after ripping the hose off a Magura HS33, worked so well he left it like that.

Odd, this seems to have fallen off the front page. I'd hate for andy7t2's question to go un-noticed and unanswered.

Probably planning a suicide attack next. Don't get frequent flyer thingys for one-way trips and (correct me if I'm wrong) but they can't be handed on with the rest of one's estate?

If we did get rid of February could make August 59 days? Better to have more days in the summer surely.

    Don't tell the Aussies.

Been veggie for years, race in Elite so can't be doing too much harm.

Kate P is veggie too, doesn't seem to slow her down, probably many more but she must be the fastest.

advice? If eating out go for Indian or Chinese/Thai, usually a very good choice and lots of good stuff.
Will you still be eating eggs? Excellent sourse of the things you can't get much of from plants, some B vits are rare in plants, and iron only in some (spinach is good for that).
Only thing the body needs and can't get at all from plants or make itself is vit B12, eggs or fungus for this (marmite is excellent, being just the best bits of the fungus)

Fell out with AA over charging me for cover I hadn't asked for and then trying to charge me a cancellation fee when I pointed this out. Much agueing but got it all back.

Fell out with Europcar when they wouldn't come to help me when I lost my keys, cost me over £200 for a mobile locksmith.

Not had to try the current one yet (wood already touched)

I've got a verb, 'To Blair.'

As in "He's blairing me,' which of course means "annoying me in way that's really hard to define."

    'bout 13Lbs http://weightweenies.starbike.com/articles.php?ID=94

Although that is carbon and slightly shorter travel.

FWIW I aiming for sub-16Lbs Saracen HT for SSEC. Magnesium frame, 100mm forks but only one gear (obviously). Not sure how well my current (13 year old steel Claude Butler) SS hack bike would stand up to it…

1st car Once, when trying to sell it. Had it 8 months. Scrapped in the end.
2nd car Once, when trying to sell it. Had it 12 months.
3rd car Twice, can't remember why. Had it 2 1/2 years.
4th car Never, had it a couple of months.
5th car Never, only had it 4 months so far.
Occasional hoover as they all seem to fill with pine needles.

Race bike gets complete strip and rebuild every ride…

Anyone heard about the 'death bed' in that hospital in South Africa?
Six weeks in a row a patient died in that bed, about 9:30 on the Friday morning. All were sick enough to be plugged into a machine of some sort I can't remeber the name of, but none of them had a life-threatening condition. All patients with similar conditions in the other beds on the ward survived, just this one bed seemed cursed. One patient dying, yes, bad luck, but six in a row? And at the same time every week?

Cleaner used to come round, 9:30 Friday, unplug the machine to put her floor polisher in, do her job then replace everything and leave.

Did a time-trial a few years ago, a 25m. I had a handicap of about 5mins, most people had 5-10 mins, the odd person with something-teen and one guy with a 35min handicap. I asked how come he got such a big one and got the answer 'Well, he is 84.'
He did 25miles in around one hour 30. Hope I'm that quick at his age.

Also, a friend in his late fifties or early sixties I see at the races tells a storey of taking his road bike to the Pyranees, which ends with '…doing 78mph. I could have gone faster but I got scared.'

Wheels are Tune Prince/Princess (the Prince with new freewheel), Alex XCR-Pro Scandium rims, DT aerolite spokes (32 each), DT standard alu nipples, Tune AC16/17 skewers.
Rims are 30g (each) lighter than those DT carbon ones. Very difficult to get hold of, had to buy a replacement rear from a one-man-band in America. The one without the eyelets didn't last, so I've gone for one with, added 20g unfortunately, more than cancelled out the hub upgrade.

Still silly light, although I'm 9st12 so can get away with it. Also use DA 12-27 cassette, R1 floating rotors 160mm both ends with Tibolts torx-head rotor bolts, Racing Ralphs Evolution 2.1", Schwalbe SV14A tubes and (heavy) velox cloth rims strips.
Not a lot of rotating weight.

What's the guy with 980g set using? I'd be surprised if he's got disc hubs lighter than mine and can't think what rims they would be, even the Edge carbon tubulars would 'only' save 100g/pair over the Alex XCR-Pros. Is it quite heavily tuned rather than off the shelf bits? The MSC carbon set are 1140g, they look nice.

    19 and a bit pounds.

Really Andy? What have you changed since I weighed it at Sherwood last year, it's lost about 3lbs!

As someone else suggested I have indeed quoted without pedals, don't know why but lots of folks do. 20.6Lbs with, 0.1Lbs heavier than Dougal's, although I have just saved a bit on the hub, lighter freewheel.

aracer, probably wheels, 1200g pair. Rims hubs spokes nipples and skewers.

Washing machine on coldest setting, no detergent. Do all shoes like that (don't put towels in with running spikes, many threads)

Would avoid Xeros if I were you.
Also, probably better off with handbuilt set, the factory ones can be PITA when they go wrong, no interchangablility of parts, even getting a spoke at whichever bike happens to be closest to where it's broken can a problem.

My choice for £200 would be a set of CK classics off fleabay and a pair of open pros.

Still got a 1999 Attack Trail.

Had a 2004 XC100 and then a 2006 Mt Vis Pro. Can't fault their warrenty dept.

I do have the required beard though, do you? Goatees are permitted for Marin hardtail riders, full suss riders must have the proper beard.

    Race bike/ The Yeti
DH bike/ the Marin/ white bike
    Saracen/ the hardtail/ spare bike
The singlespeed (sometimes gets called Claude but this allowed as it is a Claude Butler)
    Road bike
    Time-trial bike

Had a different Marin before the Yeti, this was also known as Race bike or sometimes the grey Marin

GF is more imaginative and has
    Suzy (Specialized Stumpy)
Bertha (Dawes HT of some sort)
    Bridget (Dawes road bike)
    Poo-bike (Halfords special hack bike)

But then she even gives her cars names (Bella and Izzy so far, both Aygos)

    My cars have been
The Tardis (Proton Persona, surprisingly large boot)
    The rust bucket (Peugeot 306)
The Repmobile (Mondeo, which the GF called Percy for some reason)
    The Toyota (Toyota Corrolla)
    The Hyundai (Hyundai Trajet)

I find that if ones names stuff ones gets attached to them and then upset when they break and have to be replaced, was rather sad to see Percy go.

Buy it then phone your local garage to book an MOT, you allowed to drive an untaxed car to a pre-booked test and nothing to stop you having an MOT test done a car which has still has a certificate. Whether or not you turn up to that to the test is none of the DVLA's business, maybe everything felt fine on the way there and you decided not to bother…

As a racer I'm pleased to say I've never been passed while trainig at a trailcentre. I don't think there was a huge queue behind me either, I know the sound of faster riders coming up well enough.
Never really had any problems passing people either, most tend to move over pretty well straight away. Just relax if they don't, it's not a race, just drop back to give them a gap if it really is too narrow to pass so you can do the fun bits fast and then pass on the fireroads.

I use a bench-vice, not attached to a bench. Put a blck of wood on one end of the head tube, headset cup on the other and tighten, pretty much lines itself up. Undo, change ends, job done. About 3mins.

A friend's daughter recently named their new arrival "Thursday" for obvious reasons

We had one called Friday, probably for similar reasons.
    Have also had:
    Oliver-Doris (girl)
Minstral (as in black and white minstral)
    Bob (also girl)
Marc (as in Mk11, also black and white)
    Currently have Gordon.

Woman in our village has one called HelloCat because that what she says whenever she sees it. GF's neighbour's have one called Moo, black and white again.

Probably heard it before, but I think Sindrum is a good name. When he/she jumps up at people you get to shout 'Down Sindrum' very loudly.

Try it. If it doesn't work try something else. You aren't going to damage anything by giving it a go.
    What brakes are you using?

for a grand you can buy a very good framed bike.
    pretty light, pretty robust.
is the stuff above this any better??
or is it just pose value??

Is a Ferrari 458 worth three times as much as a Skyline? I've driven a 575 (sadly not mine) and suspect it might be…

Got a Yeti Carbon, cost £lots. much better than my old Marin. Three times as nice? No. But then laws of diminishing returns must set in at some point.
