Doesn't look like a great neighbourhood, and with a crowd gathering, I can see why you'd get a bit edgy..

No need for a gun though :D

It was in issue 50, or you could read it as part of the awards voting, not sure if its still available that way..

It says below the vid that Nial is 12.

Kyle Straits are excellent, wear mine pretty much all the time now, very comfy, even fit underneath my long trousers. And yes, keeping your knees warm is a welcome bonus :D

Unfortunately its easier to point a finger at a single entity, such as the police, rather than consider that it was a tragic event that had many factors. Some people's grief is so strong they won't rest until they have someone to blame.

A few years back Duncan Ferguson, former Dundee United and Rangers (playing for Everton at the time IIRC) footballer and arch thug who had already served time for assault. surprised a burglar and gave him a bit of a slap, resulting in a trip to hospital. Drunken Duncan as he was known hereabouts was not prosecuted.
    He is however, white.

Don't know whats more staggering, that you can't see the difference between one man attacking someone in his own home with his fists and four men chasing a man down and beating him with weapons until he's brain damaged, or that you instantly assume its because of race..

I think you'd get an idea of how hard you were hitting the blokes head when the bat broke.. :-)

A gang of men chased one man down the road and beat him with a cricket bat, metal pole and hockey stick until he was left with permanent brain damage. Whatever had happened before, thats not self defence or justified, its mob vigilantism.

Lots of papers seem to be focusing on the fact the robber didn't get a prison sentance, and missing the point that he couldn't be given one because of the injuries he recieved.

I only ride alone, and although I feel I'm missing out a bit on some things, mostly I prefer it. I want to do my own thing, without thinking about anyone else. Part of the fun of biking is getting away from it all imo.

It does reflect my personality away from biking though, I'm perfectly happy in my own company.

hard riding on your own = masterbation

I think that would upset the ramblers.

There was two guys on a ratty looking bike on Friday too. Didn't notice any damage to the berms then though, but did notice there was a very churned up bit right at the end, that looked about motorbike tyre width.

Was anyone else there on Friday and see the guy crash on the jumps? Was he alright?

Everytime here, I quite enjoy it, and its not like it takes a long time. And makes it a bit more pleasant to deal with if you want to do any maintanence or load it into the car.

I just spray fenwicks on and then hose it off, no need to take a tooth brush to it and polish up the metalwork.

From the videos I've seen, and the review on Youtube, they definetly work better on class 6 than 2. I've ordered a samsung class 6, £19 off ebay, still quids in over the more expensive versions of the camera.

"What do you need two for? One for each foot?"

Yes, thats right, I've taken to wearing my bikes like shoes.

"Why don't you get a new bike, then you wouldn't have to do all that work on it?"

I'm lubing the bloody chain, not welding it back together..

    Was interesting indeed.

No mention of the heating decrease if we all switch to energy saving bulbs though. Surely if they put out that much heat, we'll have to all turn up the heating?

I missed the beginning, what was the dial supposed to be showing? It said Volts but the numbers were only double digits? Surely current or something would have been a better measure?

Slightly strong mixed Fenwicks here. I just hose the bike down, spray on all over (I do use loads though) and then hose off and its perfectly clean.

Not as good as Muc Off on tyres though.

I'm in no rush, I'm out for fun, I'll wait for somewhere to pass, or slow down and ask politely.

Ringing a bell to demand people get out of the way just seems rude to me..

In their defence, that may be a coincidence, as nothing I've looked at has gone up..

So they'll be giving the discount on more things than they'll be making it back on..

I've just bought one, only bashed the big ring a few times, but I don't use it, and one scar on the back of my leg from the chain ring in an off is enough thanks, seen some really nasty photos of what they can do to flesh :|

Who mentioned him being gay? You assume that was the reason, I thought it was just because he was a very odd young man who confessed to having a fizzing behind his penis whilst driving a Citreon AX…

Just bought an Epson SX515W on impulse in Tesco for £80 (was looking for ink, but they didn't have the right one, so I got an upgraded printer instead  ) and I'm amazed by how good it is, and the wifi is very convenient. Been printing everything in sight since

Totally stock apart from grips and pedals for now. Fancy some white bars and a shorter stem, followed by a dropper seat post and a bash guard.

Long term wouldn't mind swapping to a Talas fork like the x0 for the extra travel.

The sad thing is, if you so much as question any of the details of climate change you get labelled a Climate Change Skeptic, which apparently is up there with Holocaust Denial.

This thread and the links in it being a perfect example..

    Nicked from http://www.great-rock.co.uk/blog/ :

We have been successful with our various funding bids and have over £500k to send on new mtb trails within the Rossendale area over the next 18months or so. The bulk of the funding £350K is coming from Aggregates Levy.

Planned at the moment for within Lee Quarry are

A new section of red graded xc singletrack with some black options/features this will be between 1km and 1.5km long depending on the final route used which will depend on what can be fitted in with the budget available.

New skills areas/sections which will include

    The Drop line
150m long 3m wide will have three ability levels side by side enabling riders to learn how to ride drops of different sizes and difficulty.

    The Berm Track
180m long 1m wide eleven consecutive berms (and nothing else!)

    The Pump Track
120m long 0.7m wide pump line on a gradient

    Black graded progressive skills line
250m long 1 to 2 m wide rock drops, table tops, rollers, berms all on the same track (i.e. putting everything learnt on the above three tracks in to practice)

    Black graded expert line
250m long 1m wide similar to the line above but with even more challenges.

    Pump track
Figure of eight pump track built on flat section start finish at the same point.

The above should all be finished by April/may this year. This means we will have quite a few extra features to use at the weekender event in July.

Also happening this year should be the work at Cragg Quarry, Rowan Sorrell has put the initial designs together for us and he says “Cragg Quarry deserves to be the jewel in the crown of the whole trail centre project. It has fantastic rolling shapes, ideal to adapt to mountain bikes and its location affords stunning views out over Rossendale and up into the Lakes on a clear day. The new wind farm located on the moor to the back of the quarry actually adds to the character of the ride and provides an interesting backdrop to the trail. The loop in Cragg Quarry will be a packed 4.5km with plenty of contoured bench cuts and sudden feature sections seamlessly linked together into one exciting ride. The trail climbs gently through the quarry just off the route of the Pennine Bridleway. This extra elevation gives riders great views and still throws in a few technical rock features en route, but it is on the return leg, with the overall gradient now working to the rider’s advantage, that the thrills are cranked up a notch. The trail flows, rolling, dipping and rising with berms along its route; it can be tackled gently or attacked head on, making for a physical, but ultimately very rewarding ride due to the views and great features found throughout the quarry site. There are old buildings, inclines and cart tracks all taken in along the route so the rider not only has a great ride but also really gets a feel for the heritage of this site. Rock gardens, rock rolls and slab paving are all incorporated into the trail to make the most of the natural resources and features on site.”

Next financial year we are planning on constructing a bridleway link from Lee Quarry up to Rooley Moor Road, a link over to Facit Quarry and then some mtb trails down through Facit Quarry. Once we have this lot in place that quick half day blast round Lee Quarry can be turned in to a full day out. The idea is to keep it technically challenging with plenty of red/black options.

We are also planning an off road link between Lee Quarry and Gisburn Forest any one fancy a quick lap round Lee Quarry.

    Sweet :D
