    Cheers guys, too kind :D

Well I went out for my first ride on it today. XC out to some downhill tracks and back again. Everything seemed pretty nice!

Here’s a stream of consciousness regarding my experience:

    -This bike is heavy
-Yet it pedals quite well, I rode up everything I would on my BFe
    -Full sussers feel like cheating
-The trails seemed to be a lot smoother today, must be the weather
-The bars are too narrow, I find myself riding like I’m doing an impression of a posh man riding a horse.
-I’m unfit, I need to ride this much more before I can even dream about alpine climbs
    -Dropper posts are fun
    -My shed is too small

It did get pretty bumpy yesterday 8O

I’ll whip out the MoCo tomorrow and have a look. I’ve read that the seals can just get unseated, so it could be that. I’ll give Loco a ring too, though I’m not overly keen on spending 20quid on a couple of 5p o-rings.

Cheers folks, I’ve never actually been on a weekend so was fearing the worst. Going mega early isn’t really an option with rail travel but i’ll do my bestest to be out before 10

If it’s any help, I have a 2.2 RQ and it comes up slightly smaller than a 2.35 High Roller (the tyre it replaced). This is mainly due to the side knobs not protruding as far though, it’s still a big tyre. I’d say the carcass is about the same.

I had a great ride last night, just me and the hardtail (the only bike I have) and messed about in the woods for a couple of hours, riding little bits of track over and over until I pushed it too far and fell off. Brilliant, reminded me of being 13 again.

I, for some reason, have an I-Fly on my BFe. Other than hurting my bum, it’s brilliant.

I have had exactly zero problems and not touched the thing since I fitted it a year ago….plus it weighs bugger all.

Ska-49……you tempt me! After reading your build thread on SDH (and actually recommending the clearcoat) I am very, very, very tempted.

I’d love a Mega, alas, I don’t have the funds.

That Pitch looks good Twoton but I’m almost certain that I need a large frame. I ride a medium BFe which comes up longer.

Would we class the old style SLX brakes as decent? I’ve never really used them for prolonged descents, other than Snowdon. I’ve considered getting some of the Ice Tech rotors help me fight the battle against fade.

I know the Reign and x are different, just presumed the suspension action to be similar. It was a shock-through-frame version.

I’m kind of leaning towards the Pitch at the minute. In all honesty, I haven’t spent much time on full-sus at all so don’t really have any idea of what sort of ride I’m after. I had a Tazer VP for a while but that’s it. As fun as it was, I thought the action was a little dead feeling.

If I were to get a Pitch, I’d probably ruin it with some 160mm forks…….and maybe a coil shock.

I’m talking second hand and frame only (unless I find a sweet sweet deal).

Yeah, Pitch is no more :(

I’m in……but only if you can guarentee some gnar shredding and sweet booters.

It’ll be nice to put faces to names.

They really need to replace that ridiculous fire-road climb at the start. Some nice singletrack climbs would do grand.

I’m a strapping 6’1″ and bought a medium roughly a year ago. I’m glad I did. it gets used for everything from DH to full days out in the Peaks. They’re very long bikes and I, personally, feel pretty stretched out even on the medium. I feel like the large would be ridiculous. For a play bike, I’d say you would definitely be better going for the medium.

Not at all, but doing 50 through a 30 zone is. Just to clarify, I meant going overly fast, not road riding in general. Pretty much the only similarity between road and mountain biking is the BSO between the legs, they’re completely different in almost every other respect. You can’t compare them so easily, particularly in this instance.

Downhill road segments should be culled, you just can’t behave like that on the road. Too many big, heavy, fast metal things involved. Maybe they could implement a system that compares the rider speeds to the limit for that section of road and then deletes the segments which encourage riders to ride like idiots. That said, there’s plenty of unrestricted mountain descents knocking about.

I’m 6’1 and ride a huge Twenty Tzar, I think it’s 21 1/2″. I could do with some higher bars really as my Sunday ones are a bit on the low side. If I ride for more than a few hours then I do start to ache a bit but it’s mostly OK.

C’mon guys, there’s something to be said for applying a shred of common sense. Obviously if it’s a mixed use trail then be aware of possible sentient obstacles…..just like cheeky riding in general. We shouldn’t need rules and regulations to protect us from ourselves.

Hate to sound unsympathetic but that guy was clearly suffering from a bad case of natural selection.

I don’t know about you lot but I ride at the same speed downhill whether I’m recording it with Strava or not. It’s fun to go fast down hills……offroad I might add, it’s idiotic on the road.

Only a second off KoM for the Beast of Hope Cross short segment…..it’s great to be able to see where I’m losing/gaining time on people (in this case it’s the looser bits). I don’t think it’s too bad considering I’m on my hardtail. Cained the Screaming Mile the other day too, which was a nice surprise :)

Cheers for that guys, I’ll keep away. They just had a wheel in, that I wanted, at what appeared to be very cheap. Sounds like it wouldn’t be worth the hassle for the sake of a few quid.

    Guilty!

I really love it. Really helping me push descents (because who cares about climbs right?) and even managed to get a KoM or 2 out in the peaks.

The elevation is pretty dodgy though from my android app. My local loop crosses a viaduct and I apparently put out about 1000w “climbing” back up the valley. Still, as has been said, more of a laugh than anything serious, particularly using the app.

I’d like to do a trail centre or 2 with it and see how things stack up……I imagine I’d be pretty disappointed with the results mind.

Rode Castleton and Ladybower on Friday also, Blue BFe with stupid bars. Got to the top of Mam Tor for about 11, couldn’t see a thing! Fog and children everywhere, very strange.

Did the same loop again today, clear from Mam Tor! Got a bit wild on the way down though, nearly nailed myself on a sandy corner into a rock garden. Pretty sure I got mild heat stroke as I felt dead funny on the train home. Managed to bag a couple of KOMs on Strava too, still a second or 2 off the shorter Beast segment mind. Loads of walkers and a few bikes out.

I already have a BC RQ on’t front, it’s been grand. My old high roller is starting to loose it’s side knobs though, time for a new ‘un.

Got a black chilli RQ 2.2 delivered from Germany last week for 35 quid.

    Care to share where from?

I went from Vans (skateshoes) to 5:10 Barons over Christmas. Very impressed thus far. Had a few very wet days out and my feet have stayed pretty dry, much more so than with my mates Impacts, which seem to act like sponges.

The improved grip is immediately noticeable. Rode the Peaks on Friday for the first time since the change and, where previously I would have to hold back (Hope Cross) to avoid having my feet blown off the pedals, they just stuck and stuck and stuck and stuck. Really great.

It’s a shame the shock can’t be replaced with something a bit less abstract…..alas, maybe ’tis not to be.

    Hmmmm, that’s not overly encouraging.

Surely it can’t have been and RP23, the Ransom has a bizarre pull shock…..you can only run the OEM Scott Equalizer.

I’m worried about resale value too, for a bike that received such positive reviews, they get a lot of negative press.

I think (think!) I’ll be there. Pretty sure we (Notts uni cycling) are holding our varsity/club vs old boys race there. My first xc race also, so not sure what to expect. I’ll hardly be killing it on my 30lb BFe, more for the fun than anything. I’ll chuck the Larson on the back and attempt to dig in a bit.

I regularly run 1×9 (36t 11-34) around that/a very similar loop and the only time I have to get off is for that slab climb you mention.

It’s not so bad, just takes a bit of getting used to.

What were the other bikes in the review, out of interest?

I stopped reading MBUK at about 13, even I found it childish and misinformed then :/

It’s hardly the Peak’s best kept secret. Some of you are worse than bloody dirt jumpers.

A little common sense goes a long way. Don’t ride at peak times and don’t make a fuss. I doubt you’d get walkers down there anyway.
