As OEM pads go they’re brilliant.

Shimano pads rip shards of alloy off the rim which embed in the pad and wear the rim quickly. Won’t let them anywhere near my wheels.

Dual compound versions for best of both worlds.

Koolstop Dura salmons or dual compound are as good as swisstop probably better in the wet for a bit less wonga. They’re also kinda to your rims compared to shimano.

Edit: Beat me to it 😳

Yes used lots, live in the lakes and do a lot of riding the passes etc often in the wet(being the lakes) and they’re excellent.

P.S the Dual compound ones came from rosebikes as part of a bigger order, haven’t seen them listed in the uk.

Its all fine this end of the lakes, we’re had a very mild winter and very little snow compared to recent years. Couple of weekends ago we went to Ambleside the day after the snow it was almost unrideable 8″ deep everywhere, headed back up to whinlatter and it was almost snow free! There was a fair bit of ice, but it was all rideable and that will have thawed out by now. We’re just in the middle of another mild week and i see rain is forecast before the weekend, so conditions are typical for a mild wet uk winter.

Nope, post thaw mud is the flavour of the day at the mo… enjoy!

Did the Bash yesterday, its fine no ice to cause any issues. Did whinlatter last week and that was iced up a bit at the top of the south but was all still rideable. The forecast is mild all this week so come the weekend it will be fine…. Well when i say fine i mean no ice but it’ll be a sh*t fest once it thaws

I always find fit issues are worse on the road because your much more static and if its wrong you get rsi issues. i used to get pains in the side of my feet and it was always worse on the road. turned out the slight cant in my spesh shoes wasn’t right for me. i cancelled the cant with the opposite wedge to create a flat toebed and my feet have been trouble free since.
Another area to look at is saddle height, if the saddle is too high on the commuter you may be ankling(twisting foot) through your pedal stroke. this could cause rubbing problems and eventually achilles issues.

so with the spray mist, you just spray to frame so that it is a bit wet, then apply tape

Yep light coat on the frame, you can use water in a spray bottle or mm’s method. I actually used windolene last time as I’d used it to clean any grease from the frame and it worked fine also.

I have it on the chain stays and down tube and obvious cable contact points. The down tube on modern road bikes are thick nowadays and more prone to stone strikes, combine that with thin paintjobs and chips are very common.

Use a spray mist when applying the tape and you’ll get zero bubbles and the tape will be almost invisible.

Also the alloy nipples on the kysriums are chocolate, if you ride anywhere with salt on the road they will seize and then disintegrate when you try to free them.

+1 Sefton. I have the dura ace wheels and Kysrium sl’s, the shimano’s are far superior. They are much more comfortable to ride with the carbon alloy rim but are still plenty stiff enough. They’re lighter. The hubs especially the freehub are way, way better than mavic’s.

Check out jejames(sheffield), I got a series 6 madone frameset for 50% off and when I picked it up I noticed a fair few big discounts on full bikes.

Rear skewer maybe, either crap lightweight one’s or the type with plastic cams tend to cause a creak against the dropout when peddling as they can’t be made tight enough. Shimano skewers have the best clamping force if this is the issue.

Yeah its only 2012 ST’s that have the adaptors. Mate did it though by having the 20mm>QR adaptors machined to 15mm, worked fine. Also SX have been able to do all three for a bit longer i think so maybe a adaptor from them word work, but not sure, but worth checking out.

Check out AA’s repair cover(if your a member). Up to 5 claims a year each claim has a £500 limit but that would cover most jobs. For about £70 a year + membership if not already with them.

The Look carbon jobbies I used to have creaked like mad, binned them for dura ace spd-sl’s far far better and completely silent.

GP4000’s are the only tyre I’ve used that doesn’t spin out climbing lakeland passes in the wet, brilliant compound for road use.

Sram chains are overpriced chocolate, they had the edge 10 years ago, things have moved on since.

Were’s the cramp? In the arch? If so get some insoles to fit your feet. I’ve high arches and used to get foot cramps but since using specialized green insoles my feet have been trouble free.

Lots of different types of corners require different techniques and positions. Brian Lope’s book is worth a read, he’s quite good a getting through the twistys.

Don’t quote me on this but I thought shimano road and mtb are a different diameter axles. Why would chris king and hope do road versions of their BB unless the was a difference.

    Edit

Actually I think the axel length is slightly different but I think you can make it work.

Our passat was doing a similar thing last year and didn’t give a code the first 2 times it was tested. Turned out to be a dicky crank/engine speed sensor. Could be anything though as said above, you need the code. Good luck.

Always use our EPB as you should, except when it played up at junctions and you had to use the button. Ours died because the plastic motor housing cracked and allowed crud to get in. Its very common, the housing cracks due to the motor or gears jamming and pulling on their mounting when its struggling to release, they all crack in exactly the same place.
If its playing up it means its probably on its way out as ours was terrible most of this year, but since it got a new motor its worked perfectly

if the race started on the other side of the road and from the access point further towards Lorton there’s a good three mile section of relatively flat wide fire road that pops you out where you come off the South Loop trail

But they need that bit to cope with 300+ cars which turn up.

I know the lads who organise it, there have been queues every year and every year they’re attempted to sort this. Unfortunately its simply impossible in Whinlatter to spread the field enough to stop this happening. So there will be queues this year also.

But keep yourself in the top 20 and its fine, no queues… Easy.

Yes its good, busy at the first singletrack section and quite tough as there’s a lot of climbing. But it has mellowed a little over the years, the first was proper tough and had over 100dnf’s.

The rear skewer that came on my 15mm Red metal zero’s is pants I binned it after a couple of rides and put the mavic one off my ST’s on. As above though shimano whilst not light have the best clamping mechanism of any skewer.

You’ll not get much car for nine quid! 😆

If you go passat and its 56> make sure its had the injector recall done, I’ll dig out the code for you. 😉

    EDIT
    see below

This is a brief précis of the VW UK Service Action 23H9 regarding Piezo pump injectors.

The repair instructions are contained in Technical Product Information (TPI) transaction number 2027647

This applies to 2.0TDI PD Golf, Passat, and Touran with PD Piezo Injectors

There are approximately 78,800 (model years 2006 – 2010) affected vehicles in the UK.

Owners will receive communications from Volkswagen UK on a phased basis.

The following vehicles with the engine codes listed are affected.

Passat 3C 2006-2008 with the BKP, BMA, BWV, BVE, BKP, BVE, BMA, BWV, BMR, and BUZ engines

Golf 5 2006-2009 with the BMN engine

Touran 2006-2010 with the BMN engine

    Technical background

On some vehicles with the 2.0l TDI engine, deposits can settle on the Piezo pump injector elements because of dirty engine oil. This can lead to running problems. Not all vehicles are affected by this campaign! On the affected vehicles the Piezo pump injector elements must be checked and if necessary replaced. Please make sure that on the affected vehicle the check and repair of all open campaigns/measures are performed during the workshop visit.

Parts to be fitted as part of this campaign.

    1x Campaign 23H9 sticker 000 010 006 1x Wiring loom adapter 03G 971 033 M 4x Adjustment screw WHT 000 530 5x M8x58 socket head bolt N 105 811 01 8x M6x88 socket head bolt 03G 103 385 A 4x Pump injectors

If the vehicle is listed in the system as not completed, check whether a campaign sticker with the entry “23H9 date/stamp” is attached in the spare wheel well area (next to data sticker):If the campaign sticker is attached, the campaign has already been performed. Make the entry “23H9 date/stamp” in the service schedule under “Space for workshop entries”.
