Got a set of the tub Slr versions, super stiff very robust wheels, the braking surface is very good(Slr’s, file like brake track which requires special mavic pads). There ideal for me living in the lakes as your going up or down most of the time. But not aero wheels by any stretch of the imagination, so if u mainly do flat stuff there would be better choices. Wouldnt worry about the internet failure stuff, that was the first set years ago and they have changed significantly since.

Wiggle sell it u only stick it in once u puncture. its a wee container of sealant with a nozzle which fits in your valve once the core is removed. Half the container seems to sort it and I find it quicker than swapping a tube on clinchers. Think vittorra also do one called pit stop which works on their tubs as they don’t have removable cores not used that one though.

I use tubular wheels in the summer and just take the tufo extreme sealant with me, hasn’t failed to fix a puncture yet. You need removable valve cores though so you can get it in.

It looks impressive, but it’s not the fastest way up.

He’ll have got away quicker than the guys re-mounting, so in reality lost nowt. Chapeau to him… doing it with style.

Well just got a reply and they’ve sent a postage paid slip to return it to Germany, pretty impressed with that, all UK warranty stuff I’ve done I had to pay postage to return.
Shall update what the turnaround is like for future reference to others when I get it back 😉
Hopefully bit quicker than evh22’s experience.

Whilst dollywagon is pretty tough and one ditch is a wheel killer(or rider  ). The section from the tarn to patterdale is sublime.

Not sure what you mean by ridge.. but the bit after the Bash is catbells heading south then turning right at the col with maiden moor and coming back on yourself a bit(thats the single track bit) its called brunt crag descent on strava… if your on there.
Second singletrack bit is coming down from barrow door to braithwaite(coledale gardens)

First bits the Bash. Then various bits round catbells and barrow.

Pretty calm… don’t think the wind gets down pardshaw way. 60-70mph on the tops today that ridge onto Grisedale would have been impossible with a bike on your shoulder today… I think Thats what les was referring to 😉

+1 D45yth.. absolutely spot on. The organisers have a responsablity of care.. the pass is dangerous in these conditions. They’ve made the right decision.

Nah, had s-works shoes for six years or so and loved them, until the 2010> shoes. Just could’t get on with them. So back in sidi dragons and egros…… miles better shoe, heal retention, support, closure system and durability are far superior….. Down side is there a bit spendy, so look out for discounts at merlin or planetx. Won’t be going back to s-works.

The shore section east west which goes from howtown to the farm has times ranging from 25mins to well over a hour on strava. So your route assuming your going up boledale first to hit the shore the best way could take anything from 1.5hrs to 4hrs. 😉

Where’s it sore? If in the arches, get some correctly fitting footbeds to support your foot.

Try Copperslip or similar anti seize type compound. Stick some on the Thompson post bolts also, underside of the heads and the thread.

Hehe, not a 100% but I’m thinking something like ‘mountain bike pro’ is most likely. Canny remember which way they did the scafells but they did skiddaw via the bridleway and up helvellyn via sticks.

What PT said. The way you taking about coming in, from the back of Great end you’ve got Broad Stand, which is strewn with large boulders… horrible to walk/run on, so PITA with a bike. You’ve then got a up and out on the top of piers which will be a walk down and up. from the summit you be able to ride a bit towards Mickledore but then you’ll be off again when it gets steep. From Mickeldore assuming your not going to hit the rake!! 😆 Its up foxs tarn route which again is a wee drop of Mickledore which you may be able to ride sections then a tough carry to the top of Scafell. Then turn around and repeat Best guess percentage wise at least 80% carrying.
Gary T, now theres a name from the past, was that the article he did with the Schwinn stuff on? back in the days when Polaris riders got sponsorship, if so he was guided by a mate Pete S that day.

Gore are very much European (Italian cyclist) fit.

The slim fit stuff yes xenon, oxygen etc, not so the relaxed comfort fit stuff cosmo, path, countdown, etc much more the American fit.

Try the gore jackets. Apart from the fact they’re probably one of the best makes for jackets they have different fits. Slim or relaxed. I fit medium in the slim stuff which I use for roadying .But also have a cosmo mtb jacket which is the relaxed fit in the small which fits perfectly also(38 chest 5’11). The relaxed stuff is roomier around the chest.

Well spotted! Yes it was very busy yesterday, some mountain point to point type thing going on. Usually its fairly quite out of silly season.

Out of interest, has anyone ridden from Ambleside via Langdale to Keswick off road? My mate did it last year and said it was terrific. Not an easy ride but lots of fun!

Up Rosset or stake pass across to Esk Hause > Sprinkling Tarn > Styhead > Stockley Bridge > Seathwaite > Castle Crag. Although its not strickly speaking a high level(tops) route its definately one of the best. We start from Borrowdale though and go up through Langstrath and stake’s and join via langdale combe then angle tarn.

Another one I want to do again is the horseshoe that starts off going up Catbells. I last rode it on my Heckler back in September 97 so it’s been a while!

Did that yesterday! 😀 Great ride. Route we take

The offroad option from honister would be to go in at the slate mine up the zigzag climb over the back of fleetwith then down Warnscale.

Fells over the lake are ok, scarth gap, High crag, High Stile, Red Pike then back down to Burtness wood. Final descent is quite tech and pitched a lot. Its not a route we do often cos the hike’a’bike at the start is harsh.

Sanny – Mark, for future reference your better off taking the higher path at the start of gasgale gill(Mark I can see you took the lower one from your strava), its all rideable if you’ve got the legs. The lower path was badly damaged during the floods, used to be good, its just a pain now.

Up from Dalehead tarn to the top of dalehead is a hard carry. But the rest of it is pretty rideable bar the odd bit… Fitness dependent obviously. The descent into dalehead tarn is brill as are some across to Robinson. Robinson to Buttermere drops off fairly steeply to the moss, route choice is important here. From the moss you head west(you’ll see the path) then the section into Buttermere is a fast winding descent. All the options from the top of sail beck are excellent too. Top day guarenteed… assuming the weathers behaving 😉

Cannot understand why the guides go by the road?

Cos its footpath init… canny put them in guides.

Whiteless Pike is good so look to putting that in a route.
When you say Dalehead, did you go littletown>maiden moor>high spy>dalehead tarn>Dalehead>Littledale edge>Robinson>Buttermere moss>Buttermere village>Sail beck>then either Rigg beck down or up onto Causy then down the front or possibly across to High moss then Barrow descent. Thats a cracking day out if you did dalehead a another way.
