I didn’t mean froze solid – as LHS says, ‘waxing’ -17.5 was reported overnight here, so yes the temps are cold enough.

Ahhh waxing why didn’t you say that
Still BP ultimate which is definately treated this time of year should be fine with current temperatures. Maybe just got a cr*p tank last time you filled up, hope its sorted soon. 😉

It hasn’t got cold enough by a long way for either petrol or diesel to freeze in the UK yet. If your fuel is freezing there must be some contaminant like water in your tank.

If your earning £300 a day why not buy a reliable car that can cope with cold…….?? Hehehe….. I’ll get my coat

they are supposed to be designed for riding on mountains, and by people far heavier than you.

Yeh but that more of a reflection of the type of riding we regularly do in the lakes. For the record I’ve also snapped 2 Oranges and a Specialized. The only bike I haven’t had go is my old Fat Chance, thats a truely indestructible bike.

I did tell the OP he’d be better off with the Moment at if he’s 100kg.

If you sit on it and move the bars from side to side you get an alarming amount of flex.

No offense but that’s over exaggerated bl*ll*cks! Mines been up and down toughest stuff the lakes has to offer and the bike has absolutely no tracking issues or noticeably worrying flex. In fact your old bike(ridethelakes) came on quite a few of those rides too and ate it up with a top rider onboard. 😉

Whats the bottom bracket height on each one? From memory its 14inches+ My old I.D was high and it always felt like I was sat ontop of a bloody horse.

The Epiphany’s a totally different beast to the ID, you instantly feel at home on it and it has very neutral handling and incredible climbing traction. For me it’s the ultimate big day in the lakes bike. The reviews and numerous best trail bike awards back this up…… just wish it was a bit more robust…..but you can’t have everything it simply wouldn’t climb as well if they beefed it up.

I’d side towards the moment. I have the epiphany and its the best bike I’ve ridden it goes up better than most race bikes and can hold its own on the descents then you ride it it doesn’t feel flexy. But if its second hand you’ve got no warranty. I’m 70kg I’ve had 2 new rockers and a new front triangle with warranty(lakes rockyness). If you do still want to go the epiphany route the rockers got to be the alloy version the mag ones were chocolate. But if your saying your heavy the moment would be the way to go as there bombproof.

Mate runs 20mm crossmax xl’s on talas 15mm forks. He got a lad who posts on here (northcountyboy) to machine out the QR adaptors to 15mm, works a treat.

We had more snow yesterday but its still fine, went out last night. But looking at the forecast it looks like there could be a much more significant dump friday so things could be different by the weekend.

Brilliant Wheels for the money, far better than my previous ksyrium sl’s. They are stiff but don’t knock the hell out of you like the kysrium sl’s. If you have a looky on ebay you occasionally get folk selling new sets for around £415. That’s where mine came from look up cyclops1982 see if he/she can still get hold of them. 😉

Snowing in Carlisle and Cockermouth at mo. Shap maybe interesting but its rarely impassable.

Could be glow plugs……. could be lots of things, dodgy fuel, fuel pump on is way out, injector problems the list goes on. If it happens again get it plugged into a diagnosic machine at the garage. VAG’s have similar symtoms just before the fuel pump packs in.

‘Naff’ have a look at alpine bikes they have some good deals on gore stuff although limited sizes. I’m exactly the same size(5’11 38) and wear a small Cosmo but also have the balance iii jacket in the medium. The Cosmo gets used more as its a much better fit.

Either Gore tool or cosmo. Gore stuff seems to wash better and last longer than any other cycling brand.

I’ll be fine, road up from cockermouth and did a lap today. The snow is so dry and powery and it didn’t get above freezing today therefore its not melting and re-freezing yet. Great fun and plenty of grip. Cockermouth side is covered in snow as boxelder says. Keswick side has been treated but it was snowing again before(cockermouth) so it may be dodgy in the morning.

Just a wee update. It’s snowed here in cockermouth overnight so I should think whinlatters covered. Have fun 😀

10 speed road chainsets worked fine with 9 speed setups. Can’t see why a mtb would be much different.

No significant snow in lakes as yet the tops have a little. Whinlatter will but totally frozen up(-5c last night), which means its very grippy with odd ice patch to watch out for. So conditions excellent 😉 Not much chance of snow till sunday looking at the forecast, wouldn’t let that worry you though its excellent in the snow as long as its not 2 ft deep like last winter. The pass is the main problem if it snows, but you can park at the bottom and ride up if that’s the case.

More than likely the interface between the crank axle and the bb bearing surface. Look for signs of wear on the crank axle. Heavy duty waterproof grease in these areas should sort it or at least reduce it..

Nahh, fox oil service is dead easy. Mojo have videos to show you how if your not sure. Takes 10mins max when your used to it.

    anc

Servicing and enduroforkseals are keeping my fox talas’s stanchions perfect. You can tell they work because when you service the oil it’s clear, not the cloudy brown colour it used to be with the cr*ppy fox seals.

Your kids are doing you a favour passing these bugs on, that in itself will help your immume system. It gets better mate honest, its always bad for a couple of years with young kids. Eventually your body and theirs sorts itself out and you pick up far far less. Don’t get sucked into the suppliment con, if your diet is balanced and heathly and your not claiming a pension they are a total waste of money.

There’s a few rocky drop off’s, some not very high northshore sections and wooden dropins half way down the South. Blink and you could miss any of them 😉 None are what you would call a true black but all are optional.

Not much about, you’ll probably find pockets but nothing significant

Ah right yeah that’ll be a bit more manageable, though you were planning to do all highstreet from the cockpit.

    anc

Your suggestion is a biggy for this time of year you may need lights highstreet will be very wet and slow going.. This is one of my fave rides in the autumn. From littletown to the north of catbells. Follow the bw towards derwentwater at the top go right up onto maiden moor(90% rideable) head onto highspy then drop into dalehead tarn(brill) carry onto dalehead(not so rideable) then follow the tops to Robinson which has a couple of good downs on the way. From Robinson drop off too Buttermere village, this is very steep in places at first but fantastic. You go down in two sections with buttermere moss to cross. The second section is a awesome bit of track which drops you out on newlands pass above buttermere. Then drop into buttermere and back out via rigg beck path. Add in diversions if you’ve got the legs. Carrying up onto causey then riding off the front being one. Cracking ride! 😀 Cheekkky as eL mind

Grips good but wear rates are poor, check out the tyre review sites lots folk only getting 7-8k out of a set.

Its not a old Gravity Hot Water system is it? If it is you have to have the hot water on at the same time or the central heating doesn’t work.

You can fit yourself to a bike using a video camera with a tripod and a good bikefit guide. If your knees are troublesome you shOuld pay particular attention to cleat position, saddle height and fore/ aft position. Assuming the bikes the correct size of course. Keep in mind though a change of position will feel alien at first and can take some time for your body to adjust and likewise your knees may take quite a bit longer if there other issues going on as a result of riding in a poor position. You sound like strengthening exercises outside of your cycling would also be beneficial. Good luck 😉

Everything you need to know is on the fox site in the tech section, think its pdf format. They deal with each model year as you’d expect and offer detail service instructions and user manuals and setup guides. Mojo also have some useful films showing how to do wiper service and setup sag etc.

They roll much easier than my previous UST fat alberts(which rolled well) but I’m saving 200g a wheel so the weight saving probably explains this.

Superb tyre in the lakes great on rocks brilliant round whinlatter, corner like no other tyre I’ve used… But note of caution, there not so hot if the mud is sticky as they’re very knobbly and don’t shed sticky mud very well. Rarely get that here so not a problem for me.

P.s run the 60a and it has more than enough grip tubeless at 30psi with stans.

Helvellyn! Which way? I The dodds are rideable as are the zig zags out of kepple cove but they both lead to lowerman which is impossible on a bike. Can’t see any other feasible way up.

Skiddaw bridleway could be done if you had the legs, jenkin being the very steep hard bit which you’d need elite level fitness to get up.

Yeh the do usually cost more but you get what you pay for. Have you had a looky at Camskill’s site price wise? Thats where i get mine but i’m local to them so you’d have to get someone to fit them.

CSC3s won a big Evo tyre test not long ago – they thrashed everything else.

PS2 or PS2 not in that test so the didn’t thrash them so to speak!!

    1. Continental Contisportcontact 3
    2. Uniroyal Rainsport 2
    3. Vredstein Ultrac Cento
    4. Bridgestone RE050A
    5. Michelin Pilot Exalto
    6. Yokohama Advan Neova AD08
    7. Kumho Ecsta KU39
    8. Hankook Ventus K12 EVO
    9. Zeetex HP103

Real customer review always tell the true story PS2 91% CSC3 78%

If you can get them at a similar price to the above I’ve found Michelin PS2 or PS3 are the best for performance and allround wear on a quick car. I get at least 20-30% more out of them than the Eagle F1 Assy or pzero nero’s on my sti.
