Yes possibly, over 2.1m high or moving that amount of earth could constitute ‘Engineering Works’.
I’d need to see a site plan to put it in context, how it will it affect your neighbours / attract an objection.
Do you intend to ship stuff in to build it or move stuff about on site etc/
And could you please confirm you are not a Listed Building or in a Conservation Area or Greenbelt / National Park or other designated area.
Incidentally I’m currently involved with a certain Noel Edmonds who’s built a ‘bund’ (read big earth mound) in his garden – he thought he didn’t need planning permission, he did, he applied and it’s been refused. 😀
AnalogueAndyFree Memberi wonder if it’s the club’s ethos to cultivate the them and us mentality ?
Ha ha! Interesting you should say that 🙂
Can’t say too much here, suffice to say I’m a Bath CC member and now lead rides on the road but came to the club from a pure MTB background. Yes, it’s fair to say the club is ‘road orientated’ (focussed on Sat and Sun club runs and TTs) and some in the club are amongst that minority of roadies who like you said for some daft reason don’t count ‘mountain biking’ as cycling..
.. in fact I think I can even guess who they were? One on a flash orange and black carbon Storck.. in fact I can almost guarantee who they were.. I bumped into them this morning at 9am and they were off to Clevedon. In fact I was on my bestest road bike but wearing a mud splattered peaky lid and they did their best to ignore me 🙂
If I’d have been there I’d have moved over and insist you join us and asked you how the trails were. I’ve joined the Committee (or rather turned up and suggested they co-opt me) and even organised our recent Weds night ‘Midsomer Madness’ event ‘in association’ with Bath and all the other local clubs (Walcot, Somer Valley and the Black Canon Collective).
Don’t lose any sleep over it Oldfart, it’s them who missed out on your company not vicky versi 🙂

What biker said. I gave away a dyson, needed a new hose but otherwise ok. Someone collected it then complained a few weeks later as the motor broke ‘would I be willing to split the cost of a new one?’.Brilliant!
Same here (Bath) but I have shifted all sort of stuff – including most recently some old bib shorts and a helly the guy who took them was really appreciative.
Good way too of getting rid of stuff that would otherwise require effort or trips to the tip – a giant rabbit hutch, bags of top soil etc.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberWhy do you suggest he rent one? Surprised no-one has suggested it yet (perhaps they have and I missed it?)
He looks up to the job 😆
AnalogueAndyFree MemberHa ha,
Why do you suggest he rent one? Surprised no-one has suggested it yet (perhaps they have and I missed it?)
AnalogueAndyFree MemberPine Marten also have a pale chin/underbelly, and aren’t normally around the midlands (look further north).
Self-sustaining pine marten colony in Wiltshire too now though but you’re right, they’ve generally got more light fur on them.
I still think mink 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberYou’re on a loser here I’m afraid gwj72, and once again I’m amazed that someone on a ‘cycling’ forum, who claims to ride a bike, holds such a view.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberThanks for the bump. Not spotted this before. Email sent. Another one who holidays on Gower with the family at least once during the year, I found Clyne Woods a couple of years back and enjoy discovering what you guys have been up to.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberCheers! Pleased to hear that Andy – hope he wasn’t too far down the Fosseway 🙂
Nice email from Emily’s dad when I told him she’d won, he said she’d be very chuffed, really suffered on the ‘Does It Hurt Yet?’ hill, but the writing on the road brought a smile back to her face……at the end she turned to her Dad and said “why do you do this every week?” 😀
AnalogueAndyFree MemberCheers Martin and all the other STW’ers who showed up.
Great turn out. 51 in all. Lots of familiar faces but lots of new ones too. Some good connections made.
No disasters. A few crashes but no injuries. The route worked well, despite the wet and mud.
The ‘led rides’ idea seemed to work ok too (most people still took maps). A few mechanicals and some splits but I think only one guy (who arrived late) lost his way a bit.
Most stopped at the pub near the end for a pint and a chat. Lots of smiles, ‘thanks’ and positive feedback.
Thanks again to the guys at http://www.cadencebikeshop.com for the ‘prizes’. Lots of nominations, plenty of ‘spirited’ descending and climbing – most had a go at riding the ford and some had a go at the unrideable bog, loads of friendly encouragement and support too. After much debate amongst the ride leaders we decided to award them to:
Emily – she rode on her dinky little Spesh Rockhopper with her dad. Split off near the end of the short route (it was past her bed time!) made a real effort and kept smiling!
Celia and Rich – They rode over from Bristol. Rode with the ‘Tony, Steve and Aileen’ ‘Hard’ Group, were both a real laugh, got muddy and bloody and were still smiling at the end – and Rich did it on his SS!
Andy
AnalogueAndyFree MemberNot Bristol but there’s a similar ride that leaves Cadence in Bath on a Sat morning – up to 3 groups, first 9.15 then 5-10 min intervals. 43 mile lumpy loop out Sodding Chipbury way with prime on the Common.
Aim is the fastest groups catch the slower near the end but all the groups ride ‘fast’ chaingang/paceline/through and off 19mph first group, 22mph for the second/third group..
AnalogueAndyFree MemberYep, it was indeed peeing down earlier!
I’m going with MetCheck:
4.2mm up til 10am then drying out later 🙂
I’d bring the rain jacket just in case though..

Where do you get tick tweezers from? Most vets too now.
Hair / cotton is ok if you’ve nothing else but tweezers are better and the removers even best as the best way to ensure you remove the mouth parts is to ‘twist and pull’..
Just to re-iterate (You can’t say it too many times) 🙂
DO NOT SMOTHER THEM,
DO NOT BURN THEM OFF
– THEY WILL DISGORGE THEIR STOMACH CONTENTS INTO YOU AND IF THEY ARE CARRYING LYMES DISEASE PASS THAT ON TOO
AnalogueAndyFree MemberA bump in case anyone missed it first time round.
Been out clearing bits of the course today. Looking wet and muddy in places.. and looks like it’ll stay that way.
Someone asked ‘is the route way marked?’ – it’s not. Easy to follow on the map and routecard though and as mentioned above there will be ‘leaders’ who know the route ‘leading’ 4 groups this time (Fast, Steady, Gentle, Gentlest).

Is this SS friendly?Tony did the recce on his Mustang SS (aka ‘Neddy’) there are a few short sharp climbs (not sure if they are friendly ) but yep it’s doable SS.

Oh, want to come but can’t make itSurely that route should include pipehouse?
Strangely enough we did Pipehouse last week. Probably too technical for the kind of audience this is aimed at, (ie. everyone). The stream bed descent from Upper Twinhoe is similar but shorter (do you know that one?).
If you can’t make this one there’s a group of us that ride every Weds night from Widcombe (6.30).
AnalogueAndyFree Memberllama – Member
so whats the route?Shorter than the last ‘long’ one we did (40km) back to nearer 30km.
Have tried to include all the best drops. A tiny bit of main road (bottom of Dunkerton to the LH turn to White Ox Mead). Wet feet and mud guaranteed as always 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree Memberllama – Member
to someone under 25 and one male and one female..
Andy does that mean you have to be both male and female to win?
And would you believe I was under 25?
😆
Just to be clear there are three ‘prizes’ –
one for someone 25 or under male or female
one for someone male over 25
one for someone female over 25Birth Certificate to be provided in cases of doubt (I know you’re 26 llama!)
The judges decision will be final 🙂
It should say 16-18 year olds welcome if accompanied by a adult. One of the ideas was to and get more young ‘uns out – e.g we’ve pushed details out to the Venture Scouts.
Be good to get some SPAM’ers along too Fuzzyfelt 🙂
48 of us last time we did it (in lots of groups meeting up at the pub at the end):
Reminds me llama, mentioned to Tasso months ago, will drop him a mail too.
Some pics from last time courtesy of ThurmanMerman over @ the Black Canon Collective news page
AnalogueAndyFree MemberYou’re riding solo presumably?
Spare gear cable (weigh nothing), Patches (for tubes and tyres), Cash and Card, SRAM chain links, couple of zip ties.
Have fun and Good luck!
AnalogueAndyFree MemberRe Charmydown, not sure if adh is thinking of the same access but the one we use involves a bit of the A46, we often do it after the (long) climb out of the valley from Langridge or Hamswell up through Tadwick. From the turn to Tadwick, turn right and head down the A46, after the bend there is an access track on the Left, head up that past the bungalow. The owners know us and are accomodating. It’s not a PROW and they often get people up there trying to explore the old control tower and bunkers etc. If you see them be nice 🙂
(For those who remember there was a travellers camp there and they stopped us using it – they’ve now gone).
I’ve posted the route up on Bikely – can’t access from work but will post a link later.
BTW we call the descent ‘Shanks’ after a certain Mr Shanks who came a serious cropper on it once 😉
AnalogueAndyFree Member..And across the valley there’s the downhill behind the University – head out over the bridleway down to Hampden Rocks and there’s various tracks in the woods.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberLooking at Brockham woods from Lansdown Road the jumps are on the RH side, there’s a track in on the right just past the bit where cars park. It’s nothing spectacular mind.
Also some similar jump stuff in the old quarry on the road out of Wick toward Doynton – sensitive though, the police drop by occasionally and have been known to confiscate mx bikes being ridden there.
Very little downhill man made that side of Bath, someone, (ahem) has built some very very near to me but only a short section and it’s so cheeky I can’t really advertise it, sorry. Come out on a Weds night and I’ll show it to you.
Lots more t’other side of Bath, you been to Browns at all? (Above Bathford?), all cheeky and sensitive but can be ridden summer evenings.
Loops from there out toward Conkwell and down to Dundas, including some stuff the trail pixies have built.
AnalogueAndyFree Memberits not really my type of riding
What kind of stuff are you looking for? Downhill / FR / jumps??
Head up on the tarmac through Upton Cheyney then Lansdown Lane, takes you up to the golf course – some jumps and ST in the woods around Br0ckham End.
Some nice other ST and other stuff in the area too. i.e. descent off the otherside of Lansdown down to Langridge. Or from the golf course down to North Stoke, on to Prospect Stile, Kelston Roundhill.
Lots of opportunity to create loops around those and more (I live at the bottom of the descent off Prospect Stile into Weston).
I’ve posted a load of routes on Bikely, can’t do the link from work but search for BathMTB.
If you fancy some group rides there’s a couple on Weds nights in the Bath area – we meet 6.30 in Widcombe behind the railway station.

Ahh, Bristol Bath Railway Path?? You must be one of the people I pass?
1. 0-5
2. 30-130
3. Bath-Bristol
4. 12-22What you after the stats for Daffy? Depths of winter after a long hard day I sometimes crawl home the shortest route averaging 12mph; height of summer, take the afternoon off, head over the bridge into Wales and do 70+ miles
Andy, no mate. I’m up near Dyrham. So I’m across the top into Filton.
I was just curious, as I wouldn’t class myself as particularly fit (especially to the point of adding 70+ miles to my journey) but wanted to see where I was in the pack….middle to bottom it would appear
Ahhh, I remember now, you were asking about places to move to a while back?
Several of my routes take me that way, Ring Road path? Or some of the nice lanes Pucklechurch way, or the other way up Hinton Hill, on to Castle Combe etc.
If you really fancy developing some speed we do a group Chain Gang ride from Cadence Bike Shop in Bath on a Saturday morning, 3 groups do the same 43 mile loop, starting a 5 min intervals aiming to finish about the same time for coffee and chat – to give you an idea the slowest averages 18-20, the fastest 22+.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberDaffy – Member
okay, so I’m not quite as slow as I’d feared. I was expecting people to be well into the 20s.Anyone else play the silly commuter race? I just can’t help myself.

AnalogueAndyFree MemberKeep us posted please 😉 We’re in the market for similar (4m x 3 to 3.5m) and we’re also a Listed Building in a Conservation Area (World Heritage site even), next to a road etc so Planning and possibly even Listed Building consent probably required..(nightmare).
In our case we were thinking something obviously contemporary (modern) would work better than something ‘heritage’..
Been looking at these people, not got any further than the website though:

If road = Darkside, does that mean that CX = Shadyside?I misread that as ‘Shandyside’ for a second then 😉
AnalogueAndyFree MemberAnyone else spot the irony in his email ad 😆
honestdonkey@gmail.com
AnalogueAndyFree Member“panache” you say..
According to google this is a panache.
Not showing off it’s ‘dark side’ that much though?
..or being more serious.. what wwaswas said.
Or is it just for posing about on? In which case stick with the panache 🙂
AnalogueAndyFree MemberAnyway, back on topic, I like the Daily Mash take on this:

I’ve left notes on a couple of bikes at work hinting that they may wish to turn their forks around.IT WAS YOU!?!?
Those were my Pace RC35s*

Got indexes and photos. Yes A&Som.Email or call your local Beat Officer, explain and ask if he would consider issuing them with a Section 59 order (Police Reform Act 2002) – one warnings and if they receive a second warning within 12 months their bike gets seized.
AnalogueAndyFree MemberThanks Jan,
Thinking about buying a box of the removers to leave at the local bike shops. Anywhere doing them in bulk / wholesale?
AnalogueAndyFree MemberYes, they both have a duty to report if either party was injured.
And the riding on the pavement, no helmet etc also illegal.
Remind me, are you in AvSom or Glos?
And did you make a note of the indexes?
