Tap the brakes lightly so he/she will have to respond. They should get the idea soon enough, This works in the car as well, a small tap to bring the brake lights on and people soon drop back..

I can't believe this kind of attitude. How stupid to risk your own safety by trying to show up the idiot behind who's riding or driving too close. You're the bigger idiot.

And the moron (or troll?) who deliberately got rear ended and ended up hurt as a result! Doh, how clever are you?

Do it in a car especially and you are very likely to end up with no compo and facing 'without due care' charges. Contrary to popular belief you are at fault if hit from behind if you've caused it.

Spoke to police and they are not interested

Not good enough. What he's doing is illegal. That's not civil, 'Rights of Way illegal' it's 'criminal' 'police action required' – 'behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace' at very least due to his language.

Who did you speak to? Local plod? PC on the phone? Which force are we talking about? I'd call the switchboard, ask to speak to the Duty Inspector and explain again politely that you'd like them to give him and son 'words of advice' at the very least.

Yes….As long as you don't ride the Bristol Bath Railway path (or any other similar heavily used narrow traffic free path)

I run an Enduro, it's great on the road, the 'strobe' mode actually pulses between 'dim and ultra bright' ran than on and off and is so good I use it during day light.

But.. I often commute on the Bristol Bath Railway path, the spread makes it a great off road light but it's too wide in specific situations like mine when you blind cyclists coming toward you.Even on the lowest setting, pointed down at the path I get complaints from people coming toward me.

I'm going to get a Strada which has a narrower beam and keep the Enduro for off-road use.

Those of you who are happily married or are happy with their long term girl/boyfriend, how close is your other half to your 'ideal'?

'Ideal' is about weighing up what's important to you and her and, if you're in it for the long haul, being prepared to compromise and grow together (not apart) over time.

I met my wife in a night club when we were 18. She says now that she knew from the second she met me that I was the one but for various reasons we had a couple of 'breaks' early in our relationship, I was too young and not ready to commit to anyone, at one point I did indeed go off with a Cameron Diaz look-alike. Great fun to take out but a nightmare to live with!

In the end, after 'playing the field' we both came back to eachother and have been happily married for 16 years now. We are different but have a lot in common. As already said, the same outlook and values.

Unfortunately not Andy but wish I had – apparently she's meant to be incredible live

Saw her supporting Royksopp at Ether and in Bristol
Strange but indeed incredible. No lights at all facing the stage, her and the band in face masks and costumes. Crowd blinded by lazers!

I'd done pretty much all I wanted to do other than win HRR and get a top ten at the HORR both of which I narrowly missed and I didn't want to spend any more time chasing them

Ah them were the days. I won our local HORR as a junior and it all went downhill from there! I went back to it for a few years but I've not been out now for 10 years. That was one of the problems with me, all the clubs I associated with were all or nothing (I used to row on the Avon at Saltford, for Saltford then Avon County). It would be nice to find a club that does just 'row for fun'.

Just picked this up, great advice from clubber. Emphasise the keeping pace bit which'll be even more important when you get out in a boat. Practice going from say 15 up to 22 and then keeping 22.

Presumably they'll start you off in a 4? Probably in 3 so you can follow stroke.

Fantastic sport, nothing beats that surging feeling of a racing 8 at top speed 🙂

Do you race clubber?

I'd be interested to see OFs route too! Don't have one saved as a jpeg myself but plenty of options – hopefully his 'll include a climb up on to White Sheet Hill / round the Deverills / past the Glider Club?

Here's the map of the routes around the Estate, you're supposed to obtain a permit..

XC Pro, especially in Microdrive, was a piece of shit. It never stayed in adjustment, and when it did, it didn't shift anyway…

..but the shifters themselves were/are loverly. I'm still running a set (shifting an XTR mech on an XT 8 speed block). 16 Years old and still a nice positive accurate click shift

Hey Mark, not on your scale but a good mate of mine (hi stuart) had to have a heart transplant after contracting a virus that attacked his heart muscles, as already said any heart surgery is a massive op that takes time to heal..

Years later he is as quick as the rest of us and now competes at the Transplant Games, like Lance, just remember however bleak it gets you can come back stronger

Yes, as you seem to be aware you need to comply with the Regs, again they've got a really handy guide to follow:

The grovelling c0ck has issued an apology:

• 4.45pm Update:
Regarding the The Tesla Roadster Article…
May I take this opportunity to apologize [sic] for any offence I have caused through the article in last weekend's Mail on Sunday. It was never my intention to offend the many cyclists who share our roads across the country. What was intended to be a humorous piece was clearly misjudged. Further more I do not condone any form of reckless driving.

Once again, I am sincerely sorry for any upset caused in relation to this article.

Complete non-story. Amazing that they'd print such sh1te on page 1 of the paper.

Agree.

But the worrying this is people will read it and believe it and you know what that will lead.. some MP will jump on the idea and raise it as a private members bill with 'massive public support'!

I agree with Zulu-Eleven,

on the subject of casualty numbers and lack of bodies. Yes, surprisingly the Taleban take care removing their dead.

Another interesting report from Sean Smith

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/aug/17/black-watch-afghanistan-british-soldiers

The Taliban don't leave their bodies. Occasionally there will be a news report that 30 insurgents were killed in this place, 20 Taliban defeated in that place, but this is a surreal conflict, a narrative without clear beginnings and endings, without substantiation. High explosive is zooming back and forwards, so the enemy is certainly there, but go to the position from where they have been firing and there is usually nothing to be seen. Once, we arrived at a compound from where there had been firing and found four glasses and a teapot set out on a tray; the tea in the pot was still hot enough to drink. But you don't see anything, not a thing. I never even saw a blood trail. It's like a ghost war.

..all the civilians had fled this part of Helmand; the walled compounds were silent and locked, the lush irrigated fields, now largely empty since the opium crop had finished, seemingly abandoned. There was no question that the people who were in the building were fighters. A missile was launched, either with programmed co-ordinates, from nearby Camp Bastion, or dropped from an aerial assault; I didn't see. But a few days later as we came back from a patrol I noticed a head in one of the fields. As soon as we got close to it we could see it had a pigtail.

It was a girl, a young girl of perhaps 14 whose body had been flung out of the building by the force of the bombing. But why was she there? Had the fighters kept her there to do their cooking? Why had no one come looking for her? I don't suppose anyone will ever know

you could probably fill half hour on the common, the kids did have some small dirt jumps there.

Ahh, the common, when on knobblies they form part of the commute (down to the Railway Path) cue shouts of "nice bike mister, can we nick it"

So are you 'current' / working at Scabby Wood then?

A few of us here run the odd 'afternoon meeting' down at Cwm Carn / Afan
